elliptical(sp) training?

Hi, I was wondering if you do cardio w/ elliptical machine,
does that help u lose body fat on upper and lower body?
or does it only work on ur lower body?

if you can burn same calories on treadmill and elliptical which one should you do? which is better at burning fat at upper body?

thanx

neither is better at burning fat in one place! Spot reduction doesnt exist. The reason why the elliptical may be considered a good machine is because its non-impact. Therefore no damage to your joints.

ok.....i am overall very skinney except for some fat in my stomach ....but that is not my problem....my problem is that i have long ugly chicken legs!!!....what excersice can i do (running, biking, etc..) to get bigger thighs and legs....that is all i need....please help!!!....

I can be wrong but I don't think doing cardio will make your legs bigger. It might get toner but to increase mass you will have to do weight training. Squats are the best excercise for building the legs.

yeah kevlar ur right. Cardio aint gona do much for ya. as i keep sayin to others...cardio is called cardio for a reason....

squats, lunges, leg press, extention...etc is what you need to look at. any muscle u gain will make u look cut and ripped so....

Shashi...Jogging on incline has shaped and increased my calves. May be you can try that for calves. But it will not increase your thighs.

i think if you weigh the benefits of incline training with the cardio done you'll find that you'll be hindering your own progress. ur still gonna be burning muscle, so doing something that burns muscle to build muscle doesn't make sense!

True that cardio reduces over all body fat, but there is some added advantage to the elliptical machines that use btoh upper and lower body, isn't there. First, you are using more mucles so shoudln't you burn more calories per minute. Second, while spot reduction is a myth, the muscles you use during cardio do get endurance benifits so the elliptical machines would help upper body endurance, right? That said, you should mix up your cardio routine to include a variety of machines...your body learns to be efficient and therefore work less. So if you do the same machine every day eventually you will get less out of the time you put in.

its grand talking bout localised muscle endurance but this guy doesn't want that...he said he wants size and as you already pointed out, a machine that uses more muscles, uses more calories so again overall his body is gonna get leaner....the only thing to build size is by weight training and in particular the muscles you want to increase
