eh; kinda let myself go

6'0, 190 pounds. Can you guess my bodyfat%? I am a little bloated in the pic but no excuses. Gotta get this diet going. I figured this would give me some motivation. You think I should bulk and add some mass or start cutting?

Hmm, I would guess you are somewhere around 20%. You should take a better picture though, a full body shot, because maybe that is a bad picture.

Personally I wouldn't want to keep bulking around 20% bodyfat.

What are you thinking you wanna do?

I don't know I have always had this problem. I wanna cut to get more defined but I also play football where being to small is a bad thing. I don't have progression pics/before pics. I figured I did okay on my bulk since I went from 173 to 190 and I only added a inch on my waist. Problem was that when I got to around 183 I lost some patience and was like eat everything because my weight was stalling.

I know I could do a awesome cut or bulk if I wanted too; but everytime I am in the middle of a cut or bulk I am always thinking of changing plans.

you just gotta keep your end goal in mind buddy.
Eventually you'll have to take the size sacrifice in order to cut the body fat.

If you do it early on in your high school career, you can still be big by your senior year for football

This year will be my senior year of football. I might just wanna cut out all the fat so I can get really fast so I can play special teams. If I am 190 pounds and my bodyfat is 20% that means I can get down to 170 pounds and be at 10%. With 20 pounds of fat lost I can get alot faster then I am now.

Kinda positive: My 40 yard dash of 5.26 aint too bad for being 20% bodyfat.

hmm... in theory, but that's assuming you lose no muscle while you're at it, and that you lose all 20 pounds before football starts. I'd try to cut to at least 15% if I were you. It'd prob take you a little less than 2 months

Picture isn't too great. Doesn't look like 20% to me. More like 17ish

I guarantee I can lose like 8 pounds the first week. I'm holding on to a good deal of water right now. The pic I took was in the middle of the day when I was bloated so I am not as big as I think. My waist is 35 Inches at the biggest point.

link pic please? pics don't work here now for me..

I'll have to drop the weight slowly then. If I can achieve losing no muscle and taking off 20 pounds of fat I can get alot faster; it would be like taking off a 20 pound vest.

I think you should clean the mirror so we can see.

SO- I'll guess your 38% fat, and should keep bulking ;)

and let's the legs too

Just to Update you guys a bit. I have already lost a good 3 pounds of extra water retention and I have my diet going. I'm eating 5-6 meals a day, each with a protein/carb/veggie, and plenty of water.

The only issue I am having is that my main protein source is from shakes with milk/whey. I need to get more Solid foods and Fats and that about covers it.

Now that I have a definite goal in mind I am doing really good so far.

1 week progress

Start Weight: 190 Pounds
Current Weight: 185.4 Pounds
Total Loss so far: -4.6 pounds
Waistline Before: 36.5"
Waistline Now: 35"

Did really good everyday last week with the exception of yesterday when I cheated but I negated that with like 3 hours of basketball and a hour of football because I felt guilty. Other then that I have been doing great.

There will be progress pics in week 4 or 5.

force = mass x acceleration.

Basically at the moment you are carrying around 20lbs or so of fat you don't need. By losing this fat you will probably gain a lot of speed. Hence the loss of force won't be all that much.

Realistically, you have to look at yourself and what you want to achieve and decide whether: you can gain enough valuble weight (ie muscle) with little speed loss, or whether you won't be able to gain the weight required in that case you should try and be as fast as possible.

My reasoning is that having 20lbs of useless weight on someone isn't significant enough to sacrifice speed.

And you are correct. Football these days required speed. If I was gonna bulk up to get bigger for D-line I would have been too slow to be valuable anyway. At least now if I lose my fat I can be happy with my body, get faster for football (my squat is going up good btw), and get to play next year.

Progress is going really good since I know have a goal to achieve and I'm not looking back at all.

Having slightly less fat is probably better anyway for the ladies during summer ;)

Good luck man.

Week 2 Progress

Start Weight: 185.4 Pounds
Current Weight: 187 Pounds
Total Loss so far: +1.6 pounds
Waistline Before: 35"
Waistline Now: 34"

haha, I think the scale is playing mind games with me. I am the most cut in a long time and my waist has dropped off another inch.

I won't worry about the scale too much this week; all I know is is that my bodyfat is dropping every day. Cool that I have stuck with this plan for 2 weeks.

I don't even seem to have the need for junk anymore. I have passed up on pizza, skittles, ice creme, chips, soda you name it in the past 2 weeks.
