Ed's Diary

I always feel like a giant when eating cornish hens. Now if you really want to feel big, quail. those things are so tiny I wonder why bother.

I always feel so primal when eating whole birds. I will definately buy the hens again. The dark meat especially had a great taste and they seemed to cook a little better than whole chickens. I always get the white meat over cooked while waiting on the thighs to get done but the little guys they were perfect!

The jog situation sounds like a good idea all around, in regards to your school plans and having more time to spend with your kids. Uh, glad you enjoyed your hen. (yuck) ;)

I think I am going organic next week or as close to it as possible. I am going to go shopping at the Whole Foods in Birmingham this weekend. Its about 50 minutes away. I'm gonna take a cooler with me. Also going to the local dairy, I use to there sometimes but havent been in awhile. They don't have raw milk but they do have un-homogenized.

Whole Foods is where its at!! I freaking love that place, but its dangerous on the wallet. We have started buying all our meat there among other things. If we had the money we would ONLY shop there.

Try not to get lost, those stores are huge!! I swear we always spend more time than intented just because we love to browse!!!

WF is expensive as all hell, but not if you're sticking to the fruits, veggies, etc....beware of pre-made foods!!! :reddevil: Good idea with the cooler and such. Organic is the way to go........

Ohhh I agree, just because its from WF does NOT make it healthy!!! But their deli is amazing!! Plan your trip around lunch time!! It will be well worth it!

Yeah I know, they do have organic produce and meat though, right? Thats mostly what I'm after. All we have is a Walmart and a Piggly Wiggly in my town. I can get dairy and eggs at the dairy but not meat and produce. I would like to get some sushi supplies though, I bet they have that stuff to.

Yes, I adore their salad bar the most--it' so convenient, and in all honesty, Santa Cruz restaurants SUCK when it comes to delicious and healthy salads. We don't have a Whole Foods (closest one is Campbell) but we're getting one in Capitola soon....eventually....I hope. There was a huge resistance here from the local health food places (New Leaf, Staff of Life, Aptos Natural Foods, Farmers' markets) to keep corporate-run WF OUT of SC County but they lost. I'm undecided about the principles, because I plan on shopping at all of the places, including WF (for the salad bar, mainly--oh and the CHEESES!!!!!!!!)

Hmmmm. Weird. The preliminary report on Evan Tanner was that he had died of dehydration. Then this comes out. Strange.
According to George Moreno of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department, Tanner had texted a friend on 9/4 saying he had run out of gas and water while riding his motorcycle. In the message, he said that if you don’t hear from me tomorrow morning, contact authorities for help. When the friend didn’t hear from him the next morning, he contacted the San Diego police, who notified the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department immediately and a search began that morning.

The department’s search and rescue unit, with an air squadron began searching the area. It took them three days to find his camp site, on 9/7, which was about 50 miles away from the nearest town. The search concentrated on the area and Marine Corps helicopters from the base in Yuma, AZ, spotted a body at Noon the next day, about two miles away from the camp site.

Tanner’s motorcycle, which was out of gas, was recovered a few miles away from his body. Moreno noted that there was plenty of water and gas at his camp site.

Moreno said there was no indication of the death being a suicide. He noted the investigation into the death was still ongoing and that the circumstances were very strange. He said that at times people have gotten lost in the area in the winter, but because of the heat and people avoiding the area, something like this is unusual in the summer.

I really don’t know what to think. More on this as it comes out.

Uh, that is really fucking strange....2 miles away from all his supplies? Hmmm

After thinking on it for awhile though I thought of 2 things. I'm an outdoors man so I am pretty good in the woods

1( A large percentage of people who die from heat exhaustion and dehydration HAVE water. They are just conserving it to much.

2( 2 miles can be a damn long way in the wilderness/desert. Without a compass and orienteering skills that is plenty enough space to get you lost for a couple of days.

Drink too little and take too many drugs for a couple days + take long exploration hike + can't find camp in 115 heat = found dead 2 miles from supplies.
