Ed's Diary

She felt a little bad about it but the fact is she still saved the little guys life. At the very least he has a second chance which is more than a lot of humans get in the world today.

Oh, I forgot an entry. I turned in my college application yesterday to start classes in the fall. 31 and going back to school. Pretty scary. I will be able to do all distance learning classes this semester.

what will you be studying?

kinda cool going back to school...

Academics this year. The plan is to get my required academics in a year and then start a physical therapist assistants program. I think this semester will be, math, english, computer science, and psychology. The comp class should be fun since it covers office software that I have used for 10 years, MS Word, Excel etc.. It is work at your own pace so I can probably knock out the entire class in 1 week.

computer science = ms office applications?

gack how lame .... :D

i suppose it could be worse and include myspace design..

especially that you'd have to pay for those credits... too bad it doesn't give you 'life experience' credits and not have to take the class at all...

Well it is a community college so they have a lot of older folks going back to school so I guess they have to make sure. It is a required class for everyone. I guess they figure if you know it it is like easy credits and if not you wont have an excuse when next semester your prof. requires you submit your assignment in excel.

Agree that it sucks you have to pay for it though. If it wasnt required I would just have to fill the hours with an elective though and I would unlikely find one as easy as that.

Lat pull downs
3 minutes treadmill

Felt bad when I left the gym because I didnt finish my WO. One of my goals this week was to add 1min per day to my cardio finish on weight days. Instead I went 3 minutes short. I felt like crap. Possibly from to few calories at lunch. I took a canned soup (my first mistake) and it only had 180 calories in it and I diddnt take a snack. I grabbed a banana on the way to the gym but still think I was running on empty. Anyway I struggled through my lifts and even increased my weight on my DL's but when I got to the end and got on the treadmill I got a pretty bad stomach pain. That was the out I was looking for so I cut everything short and left but by the time I got home (3 minutes away) the pain was gone and I was kicking my self. I think I was using the stomach pain as an excuse to stop when I could have ran through it.

Oh well. As punishment there will be no fancy elypticals and treadmills tonight. It is off to the track. I am going to do some goal setting. I havent timed my 100yd or 400m since highschool. I want to get some times tonight so I can set some goals. I was pretty darn fast as kid. Always the fastest guy in my class except for in 7th grade when we got this kid from Laos. Donkai Hwang Bao,he blew me away. Luckily a moved the next year to a hick town in north Georgia and regained my title.

remember that you aren't in 6th grade anymore -pace yourself :)
lol trust me, I am well aware of that. Too much so. I have actually done some sprinting lately so I know what to expect physically. I just havent put a clock on myself.

Actually I never went to 6th grade. I skipped it :auto:

My trip to the track got rained out last night. So I went to the gym. I didnt take my mp3 player because I figured it would be a pain sprinting so I didnt have it in the gym. 30 minutes on the elyptical with no music was very slow. There was only one other guy there. This wicked pumped guy who kinda weirded me out when he took his shirt off. I thought that was odd. So I'm just plugging away on the elyptical and this guy is walking around the gym shirtless posing in the mirrors between sets. It wasnt too bad at first because he was in the DB area. But he gradually worked his way over to the cable pull thingy which was like 15 ft away.

7/1
Squats 5x5
Bench 5x5
Cable rows 5x5
Burpees 2x10

Good workout. Saw gains in all but cable rows where I failed in the 3rd set. I lowered the weight 10lbs and made it through 5 though. Reason 9374564538 to not like machines: 10 only weight increments.

This was the first time I did burpees at the gym. Maybe if people think I am weird enough they will not try and talk to me.

I havent updated in a while because I have been very busy. My in-laws bought a new pool last weekend. And asked me to help set it up. Being the good son in-law I am I happily agreed. I'm pretty handy so I figured "no big deal". Wrong. It was a nightmare. Where they wanted it was about 4' out of level so we had to rent a Bobcat (small tractor) to dig. Of course my father inlaw had no idea how to even unload it, little long operate it.

Ed's secret talent #376: Heavy Equipment Operator

So I dig the damn hole. I have the entire thing within 1" of level within the 25 ft circle and we call it a day. Then the rain came. Filling the hole with a lot of run off. The Bobcat had to go back so that meant we had to dig all that out by hand. Then the pool was missing a box. Then we didnt have enough sand. Then the sand place's credit card machine was down. So I have been pretty much working daylight to dark 4 days in a row.

I havent been to the gym in 5 days. The only thing I made time for was a Dr.'s appt. yesterday where I was told I have "elevated blood sugar" 113 and "high normal" is 105. So my brilliant Dr. orders a "fasting blood test" Don't eat for 12 hours then get a blood test and it will be more accurate. Sounds great right? Except about half way home I realize that my initial blood test was taken just prior to my colonoscopy of which the preparation consisted of, guess what? A freaking fast. Oh, well at least this time I don't have to drink that crap they give you.

On a positive note. I had 2lb weight loss this week after a stall last week. I am sure that even though my strength training was interrupted 4 days of working in the 96 degree 79% humidity will count as plenty of exercise. I also think the squats and deadlifts have paid dividends because usually any sort of manual labor completely wrecks my back. I did more this weekend than I have done in probably5-6 years and I have no pain at all.

Thanks roses. The pool is finished and it is wonderful. Turned out a real pro job. Perfectly level. Water don't lie and I was within 1/2 inch all the way around a 24 foot pool. So I am happy. We swam in it all weekend.

7/22

5 minutes elyptical warm-up
Squats 5x5
Bench press 5x5
Cable rows 5x5
10 minutes elyptical to finish

Had progress in all but the rows. I was however able to do the weight this week that I failed set 5 on last week, so I guess that is an improvement also.

I am going to do something light tonight. Maybe a circuit or 5x5 burpees. Maybe a short jog but it is sooooo hot. Its going to pop 100 today.

7/24
5 minute warm-up on elyptical
Deadlifts 5x5
Overhead press 5x5
Step ups 5x5
Canbe pull downs 5x5
10 minute elyptical

WO went great, especially the dead lifts. I decided to make a 10lb jump as opposed to my usual 5lb because it meant I could just add a 40 lb plate instead of a 20, 10, 5, 2.5. I didnt have any problems, it actually went easier than my last deadlift WO. I finished the overheads but I don't think I will try to progress next WO. The last couple reps killed me. I am sure my form broke down but I wanted to get them up. Another thing I found out is that even though I can go 30 minutes on the elyptical fairly easy, the reverse function whoops my ass. I did a pre-programmed thing last night that swapped to reverse after 8 minutes. The 2 minutes in reverse whooped my ass.

On the home front all is well. My son got his new guitar so......yeah it a little loud and chaotic but who am I to stomp on a musicians dreams.

OK havent updated in a while but trust me, I have been working.

WO
Elyptical
Squats 5x5
Bench 5x5
Cable Rows 5x5
Dips 5x5
Elyptical

I had to work through a little pain. I kinda tweaked something in my inner thigh last Friday while squatting. Didnt really bother me much but then Sat. I went to my nephews BD party. It was at this place that teaches gymnastics. I had never been on one of those floor exercise things before so naturally I decided to "get my flip on" I did pretty well until I tried to handspring over this big padded pac-man looking thing. Then my tweak became an all out "damn I broke my groin" Luckily I had 2 days to rest and it didnt bother me on my deadlifts Monday. It still hurt yesterday but I worked through it. I watched a video that is really improving my squats.

I actually saw a 2 lb weight loss this week. Did my weighting and measuring Tuesday but didnt post it. Lost most of the fat in my waist which is good. I am looking lean and have gotten the top 4 of the coveted 6 pack. My shoulders and arms are more defined as well. My wife says my back is gettin muscles but I just have to take her word for that. I cant see it. I was gonna take some pics last night to post but I forgot. We watched Harold and Kumar instead.

Who can resist Harold and Kumar? I loved the first one, but I heard the second wasn't as good. Typical.

Sounds like you are making some amazing progress! I can't wait to see the pictures!!!

I actually liked the 2nd one. It is what it is. If you liked White Castle you will like this one as well. My kids have been outa town this week and as a money saving thing my wife cut out our dish network so we have been watching a lot of movies. We have seen a bunch of serious stuff lately so we thought it would be nice to enjoy some idiocy for a change. We watched There Will Be Blood a few nights ago so this was a change of pace lol

I'm sure I'll give the second on a try. I haven't seen There Will Be Blood... but I do know that it's quite different from Harold and Kumar! :)
