Ed's Diary

Congrats on dropping the weight, and I'm sorry you are having back pain. My hubby too has an injured back (pulled lat muscle) and he's been MIA from the gym since Friday and shouldn't have gone then. Definitely get that thing better before you get back into it!

Hope you feel better soon!

Thought I'd stop by. :)

Have you ever had back pain before or this something new?

Thanks for dropping in. Unfortunately it is nothing new. It runs in my family and I spent about 5yrs building houses which left me with some problems. Mostly just nagging but it has gotten serious a couple of times. One reason I want to lose some weight is that I believe it tends to get a little more consistent when I pack on some pounds. I heard on TV (so it must be true!) That losing 1 pound takes 4 lbs of pressure off of your knees. I think there is probably a similar formula for backs.

Also I spent Sunday hoeing a flower bed and bent over spreading mulch etc. I think that didn't help.

Chronic back pain is a bitch.

I'd throw some isometric exercises into your mix like supermans and whatnot to help build some of the endurance/strength of your backside core muscles.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking of asking some suggestions on here today for what would be best. None of the things I do at the gym seem to target the lower back which is where my pain is. I'll try the supermans. At home of course.

Hope I can find my cape.

Well, my back felt better last night so me and the wifey started the Couch to 5k plan. It went great. We were able to do the entire plan which I was proud of. I thought I could but in the back of my head I had a feeling that I wouldn't be able to finish. I will do some weights today and do day two pf the program tomorrow. I would like to find a local 5k for June. That would be amazing. Even as a teenager I don't think I could have completed a 5k.

That's exactly what I think about myself. My brother was the distance runner, and I was the sprinter, so I died trying to run 1/4 of a mile since I was so used to 100M sprints and he set the school record running 3 miles in under 15 minutes.

We definitely can do this!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am jacked! I think the 5k goal is a great one because it takes the mind off of the scale. If I had weighed this morning and had gained a pound I wouldn't mind because I accomplished a fitness goal which is more important.

OK, I skipped a day but I am back now. Finished day 2 of the 5k program. It seemed a little easier this time so hopefully Sat. will be even easier and I wont have a problem jumping up week 2 Mon.

I have been skipping the gym this week because I want to rest my back a little. I did do some push-ups last night but just 2 sets of 10 and my back felt a little tight. I think I will rest it through the weekend and get back on the horse Mon.

I have got completely behind on my diary but I am going to do better now. For the record, I pretty much abandoned the 5k plan because of vacation, and illness. I can do 5k's on the treadmill though so I guess I still accomplished my goal. I would still highly suggest the plan to anyone.

mmmmm cantaloupe... :D

Don't you love it? I am a melonaholic. I love cantaloupe and watermelon. It is in prime season here in the south to. Everywhere you turn people have watermelon. We got on of the yellow meat ones last week and it was delicious. Have any good watermelon smoothie recipes mal?

Side note: Violet keeps buying watermelon lately and at the store I noticed all the other women had them also. Does that seem odd to anyone?

So are you keeping the kitten?

What did you think of No Country For Old Men?

I'm a melonaholic as well.

The jury is out. He is cute and all that but he has been pooping behind the entertainment center which house a 46" tv so it is a little awkward to clean. My wife is about tired of it. My daughter loves him though so it will most likely hang around.

Have you seen it? I really liked it. I am a big Cohen bros. fan. I love how they just nail the cultures they portray. I am from the southeast not southwest but I could still relate. The cast did phenomenal although I will gripe that Javier Bordeen got all the credit when I actually though Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin did the better job. My wifes favorite movie is The Goonies so was surprised that Bran could be such a bad ass.
I still cant decide if the ending was great or horrible. I guess it left me thinking though so that must be good.
I wasnt disappointed though which was good. because I watched The Zodiac last week and felt so dissapointed. I love David Fincher and wanted that to be a great movie.

I'm a melonaholic as well.
Well ripened watermelon makes me wonder why in the hell I have ever put high fructose corn syrup into my body.

try it grilled as well -that'd be the melon -not the kitten :)

it's great wth chunks of chicken or shrimp kabobs -marinated in a little lime juice and tequilla :) the sugars in the tequilla carmelize a bit and make it really tasty :)

I have a 46 inch television as well that the cats love to bat at. Especially when the news tickers are going across the bottom.

I just love that.

*insert sarcasm*

I think this is a spot-on assessment. And yea, I did see it... twice actually.

I still cant decide if the ending was great or horrible. I guess it left me thinking though so that must be good.

First time I saw it I was like, "What the...?"

Second time it just fit the movie in my eyes.

Well ripened watermelon makes me wonder why in the hell I have ever put high fructose corn syrup into my body.

Ain't that the truth.

Intended to do more but my hamstrings are shot from a WO 4 days ago. I think it was Straight leg deadlifts. Maybe a form problem? I think I was emphasizing the "straight leg" part too much. They are on the menu today so I'll try to watch some form vids and adjust.

Kittengate
The cat is gone! He had diarrhea behind the TV last night so Violet decided to shut him up into the laundry room with the litter box. Instead he peed and pooped all over out laundry. So she had to do a load of clothes at about 11 last night. The cat proceeded to go to the humane society. The camels back was broken.
