Dumpy's diet diary

No, still around Clarissa just popping in and out without posting.

Our weight loss this week is only a 1lb. Well, I say only, but it would be a different tale if we had gained wouldn't it? And, after all, our bodies need to cope with the loss too. They have to 'shrink'. If we lost the weight quickly how would our skin cope? We would have to gather up the slack, and tie it in a knot on top or our heads. No, we are quite happy to go slow but sure and we feel good so that's the main thing.

I found this. I expect everybody knows it except me, but I like it.

“Only 1 Pound”

Hello, do you know me? If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat, And I'm the HAPPIEST pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.
Want to know why?
It's because no one ever wants to lose me;

I'm ONLY 1 POUND, just a pound!
Everyone wants to lose 3 pounds, 5 pounds, or 15 pounds, but never only 1.
So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it.
That is, until I've grown to 10, 20, 30 or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's FUN being ONLY 1 POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.
So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound."
For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.
And, I love being around you - your Arms, your Legs, your Chin, your Hips, your Belly and every part of you.

Never heard the one pound before. And true; everything is better than gaining. One pound is fine!
I am not able to do any exercise this weekend so I'm not expecting much on Wedensday's weigh in, still a pound is a pound, a step in the right direction.

Well, if its not one thing its another. Blinking constipation today! We've increased our water intake, had extra orange juice and walked a bit faster on our walks.
Something's bound to work!

That which was blocked, is now unblocked... all systems go. Thanks Clarissa, bought some sundried apricots and they are delicious.

It has been a really bad few days for me. I have had a flare up of the pains in my joints. My doctor says it isn't the result of Zumba dancing, that will help, but not being able to type much and not being able to knit has really pulled me down, not to mention the pain. ANYWAY! This morning things are a bit better. We can get out for longer walks. Exercise seems to help no end so long as I'm not silly and let's face it, every pound off the weight on my knees will help.
I take glucosamine, along side the regular meds and swear by it. I take the complex one: Glucosamine with Chondroitin, MSM,Ginger and Quercetin.

Glad you are starting to feel better again and continuing your exercise.

I know it's not knitting, but if you feel restless I can recommend audiobooks. - One can even bring them on solitary walks. I really love my ipod now I am exercising a lot.

I've just had a quick look Clarissa and we have over 100 audio books, which surprised me. I wouldn't have said so many. We have everything from Christie to Enid Blyton (yeah I know... grow up Dumpy!) We much prefer our books to the TV and are also big radio 4 extra fans. Going on a long journey in the car, is not half so arduous if you have a good book on the player.

I don't have an ipod, but I do have an MP3 which has all my relaxation therapy on it.

Zumba is fantastic exercise and tons of fun. Well done for starting zumba. Joining a new group is always the hardest step.

At well into our 60's we are the oldest and certainly fattest in the class Omega:blush5: but we have been made to feel very welcome and have a good DVD to play at home

I am not surprised that you feel welcome. Everyone is very friendly in our classes.

My husband is now hooked on zumba too - and he loves coming to classes. At 23 stone, he is far from fitness stereotype that people expect to see there... He is not the only cuddly person in our classes... There are a lot of moves that he steps to instead of jumping - but the fact that he keeps moving for an hour means that he will burn as many (or more) calories as the teacher who is slim and super-fit and moves more than anyone...

Way to go Mr Omega! We have to miss bits out too... so what? I was talking to one of the youngsters in the class and it turns out that I was in school with her granny:biggrinjester: If that isn't sobering I don't know what is. In a way it's nice though because I left my home town in 1969 so its a way of meeting school pals and catching up.

Made a new smoothie for breakfast... skimmed milk, plain yoghurt and blueberries... ooooo like an angel dancing on your tongue

That is brilliant about you are hearing of school pals by meeting and chatting to their grandchildren. Maybe she will manage to persuade her grandma to come along and use meeting you as an incentive for her...

I am a huge fan of fruit and yoghurt. Anything turns meals into being just like an ice cream sundae is good in my book. I am currently having fruit and Greek yoghurt for breakfast, lunch and supper...:jump: I swear by Total 0% yoghurt because it has tons of protein in it... The fact that it is super creamy and yummy is a bonus... I naturally eat it for the protein... :rotflmao:

What a nice friendly bunch everyone is on here. BIG SURPRISE THIS MORNING Drum roll.... hubby lost 1 pound and me 2:party: We didn't feel we had lost anything, but I suppose being out and about so much (It has been a very busy week) and gardening has shifted it. The people who had the house before us, had a heck of a lot of snowdrops front and back and when we moved in a few months ago, you couldn't see anything but snowdrops and as they died down the leaves hid the daffs polyanths and tulips. We have dug a whole lot up and given them to neighbours. In return we have had some smashing bedding plants. We have moved from a road which had over 100 houses in it, and you only knew your immediate neighbours to a little cul de sac which only has 9 houses and we are all much the same age,

That's wonderful Dumpy!!
It sounds like the moving has its advantages. Keep up the gardening it does not only bring you good exercise, but much more.

For an old butter addict like me I never thought I'd say this but, I am now used to sandwiches without butter. You can taste the filling much better and a scrape of jam on toast is lovely. This morning we have had a little 'cheat' just a little one and it wasn't that bad for us, but everso enjoyable. I grilled lean bacon and we had bacon sandwiches for breakfast. I read that if you grill bacon really crisp, it doesn't do as much damage as leaving it 'greasy'... We shall see on W.I. day!

When we moved, to this smaller house, very little needed doing to it. The only bigish job we have to do, but it isn't urgent, is a new boiler (furnace). We have an old one here with an immersion heater and in our old house we had a Worcester combi and our energy bill dropped by 1/3. The new boiler is going in at the end of the month. Our bathroom has been newly tiled and is beautiful... eu de nile top of the range tiles and expertly applied. However, at the time it was tiled an electric shower was also put in and the old bath just left. Whilst we both enjoy a shower, I have a long standing back problem following an accident 40 years ago, and when I've had a busy day, I love to 'unkink' in a bath. This bath is very old and very deep and badly stained. I've done the best I can with bleach and elbow grease but its still horrible looking. We have it on the list for replacing but its a two edged sword. We'd never get one to fit so it would entail either re-tiling the bathroom completely, or replacing the tiles taken out, in white because it is impossible to match these tiles completely. Yesterday, we found a firm which will strip the bath insitu and re-enamel it so that it looks like new. Its an old metal bath, better made and much deeper than these old plastic things they seem to push on you these days and having it 'done up' will be much cheaper than buying a similar bath. We will not be able to use it for 4 days , but that's a small price to pay.

Oh my sainted aunt was I ever stiff and sore yesterday. Wednesday evening we went for a 'short' walk. It was a beautiful mellow evening, warm with fluffy little white clouds just quietly drifting across the sky. We are lucky to live close to the countryside so we picked a quiet country lane for the walk. We intended to just go a short distance but were enjoying the country air, the wild flowers and the birds twittering in the high hedges so much that we kept on going in a circle which brought us back home. Two and a half miles. In the old days that would have been a gentle stroll for us, but we are out of condition.
Yesterday we could barely move AND I had to go to the dentist... 3 flights of stairs and no lift because it is a listed building. Well I got up them eventually, but after treatment had to be helped out of the chair!
