Dumpy the diet disaster tries again.

I might do the same D soon, I think. It would be much better to have a sustainable lifetime "diet" without any yo yoing. Even if we both find out that what we are doing is right & on the right track that would be reassuring. Maybe a simple tweak is required. 2lbs is good though. Weight loss always slows down, after the initial drop, & it is frustrating! xo Cate

Good advice. I think I worded my post wrongly. Put it down to the heatwave we have over here at the moment! What I meant was, that this diet is very good for a kickstart. And boy have I kicked it off. But it is unsustainable long term and I feel I need to wean myself off it and look to step 2 on a healthy life style.
Has anyone heard from Grey Ghost Hunter? He was doing well and seems to have dropped off the forum. Hope he's on holiday and not ill

It was very worthwhile seeing the surgery's dietician. I saw the man not the lady and he was really supportive. Gave me a thumbs up for the way I've handled the diet and not fallen into the trap of going sole sauce to drop the weight super fast.
He said 'As a nurse, how did you advise patients re diet?' so I said well basically, to be healthy, Fats Protein Carbohydrate'
'Exactly' he replied and gave me what he calls a mantra... All things in moderation and moderation in all things. So we've worked out that I have a shake for breakfast, a soup from the pack for lunch with a healthy salad, but not too big and a wholesome meal at night followed by a shake if I want it, in the evening. So I'll jot down what I eat and see what happens,. He surprised me by saying that you need fat to lose weight.

He´s right, too, our bodies are unable to synthesize the essential fats needed to properly insulate nerves and brain matter. Every membrane of every cell is made of fat. Quite apart from the fact that a fat free diet would make toilet duty very unpleasant... But it´s really nice to hear he´s so realistic and supportive, I bet that boosted your dieting confidence no end!

He is lovely Maria and very good looking. It's a sobering thought though... for the first 30 years of my life he wasn't alive:smilielol5:

It is going to be so strange tomorrow morning. He has told me NOT to weigh more than once a month and Friday has always been W.I. day. I have got to change my mind set: Diet isn't about weight loss, it is about health. To be successful you should lose no more that 1-2lbs a week. When I told him that it would take me for ever to lose my flab he said it wasn't about that. It was about life style for life and the weight loss would just be a side effect of it. Still trying to get my head around it if I'm honest

I can understand that but really? That´s a great mindset to aim for. I love the guy and you can tell him I said so!

It's going well for me. We went away for the day last week, and we both had the same meal. My husband has joined me and has promised me a bike for Christmas so that we can get and about together. At the moment my joints aren't up to a bike, but I'm walking further and having less pain. I keep saying the rule and the Mantra to myself... No such thing as bad food... 'All things in moderation. Moderation in all things'

Less pain is the best thing ever, congratulations. Especially if you´re raising your activity level at the same time! Having a supportive SO helps too, keep at it!

Not so hot and humid today so going to do a spot of gardening. We have set aside a strip at the bottom for wildlife but, if we don't get to grips with the rest, the whole garden will soon return to nature

How much land do you have D? What wildlife? Loved hearing about the 2 of you belting out Suzie Q! xo Cate

Compared to land in Tasi very little. We have set aside about an 8ft by 30ft strip. We did it in our old house and we had hedgehogs in our hedgehog houses, bees in the bee tubes all sorts of birds in the nest boxes and also nesting in the branches we had especially interwoven for them. We had every wild flower you could think of, butterflies, moths etc. Squirrels were a blinking pest but we made the feeders squirrel and rat proof
In this house we have noticed chaffinches, yellow hammers and a beautiful little wren in the garden along with all the more common birds. The other morning when I was up early I saw a woodpecker on one of our bird tables. he had come down from the woods behind us.

It sounds lovely D! Absolutely lovely :)

Did I tell you Cate, that my husband fell in love with Tasmania 45 years ago? He was in the Merchant Navy. He said Hobart was quiet, and very little crime. I expect its changed a bit now eh?

Hobart is still lovely D, & still comparatively low in crime, compared to most capital cities. Our younger son lives there & it feels like a very safe place to visit. We often walk around the city, late at night & have never felt uncomfortable. I feel safer there than I do in most other cities, including Launceston or Devonport, which are closer to us. I can't imagine living anywhere else other than where we do though. We are tucked away on 50 acres, off a private road, with views of the mountains & only 1 set of, not too close, & out-of-sight neighbours. It feels like a very safe haven. I don't know how I would feel if I ever have to live here on my own, but hopefully, will never find out. I think I would still feel safe. There's a lot to be said for feeling safe :D Cheers, Cate

That is so nice to hear Cate It's very depressing when you wax lyrical about somewhere and someone turns around and says 'Ah, its not like it was when you were there Toots. Don't go back. The forest is gone, the lake has a road around it and you remember all those little shops down by the harbour? All gone too' It kinda makes me feel that its time I was gone too! I'm feeling out of step with the world more and more. What's all this obsession with speed? faster cars, high speed trains planes which hold almost a small village of people because they all want to get there quicker than now and even internet connection has to be slick and quick

Move to Tasmania D & watch the world slow down. :D xo Cate

Funnily enough, we had planned to emigrate when we married. Either Canada,Oz, New Zealand or Tasmania. Then we started a family and decided to have the family in the UK and then go. BIG mistake
