To me, it seems the Dumbbell squats would be easier without a spotter, because if I cannot handle the weight than I could just drop it. However, are the barbell squats more efficient/beneficial? Thanks for the help guys.
when you full squat the dumbells would hit the floor if your just holding them in your arms, so you would have to hold them at your shoulders. and you can drop a barbell from your back when you back squat too if you find you cant handle it.
Problems with dumbell squats:
1. your grip tends to give out before your legs
2. part of the benefit of squats is the pressure they put on your shoulders/back/rib cage, and the difficulty of breathing with the weight up there
if its all you got, sure, do em. db squats are better than nothing.
but ideally, the barbell lets you support the weight on your traps, not just your arms, so more weight can be used, and its balanced at the right spot.
