Drive by Postings - aka the Hit and Run

Looks liek you're doing great have awonderful day...

Not...

Just kidding.

Well I tend not to post, because I don't always know what to say.

In the short time that I've been looking, I noticed that you post quite often. It's nice to see someone who really cares.

Hopefully we'll get to know eachother on our journeys to success.

:jump:

not just a generic response copied and pasted in.

Ok so those are my thoughts -

what do you think? and it's ok to disagree with me :)

Well- That's kind-of-a-hard one for me. I'd like to have ANY kind of reaction rather than nothing. SOme people just want to share a quick "good luck, we're here for ya!" and to some of us- That's really all we need. Not everyone out there has the time, after reading so many of these posts, to then spend the time with some long-thoguht out- reponse. Sometime just a "hey! Good job"
or "Hey- Keep up the fight" or WHATEVER can really mean a lot to some of us.

We all just want to feel like someone's listening. And at least SOME kind of a reply let's us know they are there.

:)

I browse through journals a lot.. and i leae a small message of Good Luck or a praise to the positive recent event..

I try not to write a book but i have to admit some of these journals are so inspiring, i can't stop typing.. but I try not to post often n others since it is THEIR Dairy.. that

I dont mind the fly bye "hello.. doing good.. blah blah blah..." comments.. but i wouldn't want like 3 people have a 150 post convo about something completedly off topic in my Diary that would be a little annoying.

I could be mistaken, but I think most people on the forum actually enjoy people's posts in their diaries rather than viewing the diary only as record of their own thoughts or journey.

I personally dont mind at all when people converse in my diary. Usually its about something really funny and since we post in each other's diaries on a regular, we like to hear about each other's lives outside of just weight loss.

To each his/her own though .

Well as I read through this thread it seems the crowd is split. Some like it and some don't. I would have to agree that you should read the diary prior to making a post. But I also don't mind people dropping in to say hello either. I don't know as if I want to have other people having a conversation in my diary, but if some one is talking to the writer of that diary..... Well that is different.

Supporters Forum/Mal's Pet Peeve

"Entry Word: supporter
Function: noun
Text: 1 a person who actively supports or favors a cause
2 someone associated with another to give assistance or moral support <see ALLY

I have not had the experience. Others have, some ok with it, others not.
If we are supporters then we need to be supportive. THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF OUR FORUM.

I FIND folks need guidelines to help understand what being supportive means. Certainly EMPATHY and SINCERITY are found in those guidelines.

Support groups are a place for people to give and receive both emotional and practical support as well as to exchange information.

I find this forum highly supportive so I didn't quite get ladyrose's point.

People tend to cross talk in third person's diary because they all three know each other so its only natural. The people who have regulars in their diary who all post in each other's diary probably dont mind a brief conversation between 2 other posters in their diary. I've never seen a very long convo at any rate. Some people just need to take a chill pill. Too many rules and dislikes and no one'll want to come visit. LOL

I am new but I agree with you

Support is sooooo important! I just found this site today and I am interested in your story so I can help support you in your journey. I agree that generic words are no good for a soul that is searching for help and support.

I kinda wrote my story on a thread somewhere on this site but because I am new at this I am not sure where to find it now but this is my story in a nutshell if you care to help and support me too. Thank you.

Hi my name is Carolyn. I just found this site today. This is exactly what I've been searching for.

I have been heavy my entire life. I have never been even normal size for my weight. Once I was close but I was also quite a bit younger and busier. I am hoping to find encouraging words and maybe to get a few encouraging stories from you. I would like to know how some of you are doing and how you are losing weight. I have over one hundred pounds to lose and I know I have to get started or I will be this way forever. When I write one hundred pounds out on the screen in front of me, it looks bleek...and insurmountable, but I've read where others have lost this much and sometimes more.

I've seen the success stories on Oprah and Dr. Phil, but most of them have had surgery which I do not want to have done. I am not looking for a pill or a magic diet or anything like that. I know what needs to be done. I just have to do it. Exercise and cut back on calories is the only way to keep it off long term.

I have a sedentary job and honestly getting motivated to exercise is one of my biggest hurdles. I want to go home when I get off work...not to the gym. I need to work on that, seriously need to work on it.

Thanks for reading. And to all of you that are succeeding, I am amazed by you. You should be so proud.

---if there is a way to send personal messages then you can do that and I will search for it.

Are you going to start a new diary Mal? We can all start posting greetings to you in random places on WLF . . .

i agree with this

i guess ive kind of done it a bit, but i want to make some new friends on the forum so if im dropping by a journal for the first time and theres crazy drama going on i feel it best to stick with a quick hello etc first, cause i don't want to appear rude suddenly trying to be all in the know about whats going in.

My first post in most people's diary will include a hello, the reason why i dropped by , a comment on their weight loss process and sometimes related chitchat on their journal from what i have read so far :)
