Hi all, Drew here, well today the 29rd of June I am starting a diet to get myself back into shape and feeling better about myself. It's been a long time since I've actually focused on losing weight and I've never been a big one for working out. So I guess I better get down to business. I will be using this blog to keep a record of what I eat daily and the calorie content of it, I will also be logging my weight and tracking which is hopefully a downward curve on it.

Well the start of today hasn't been on that great. I woke up and did my 30minutes on my rowing machine, but I was really hungry, as I am trying to cut the carbs and eat more protein i ended up having 3 sausages, which i know isnt ideal but they were pretty low in calories and had minimal sugars in them. I still feel bad so im going to hit the rowing machine for an extra 30 minutes later today.

I still cant ditch the fizzy drinks so I've been drinking coke zero instead of sugar laden drinks.

Current calorie count
3 Sausages 131kcal each = 393 kcals

Calorie Limit for Today
1300 kcal

calories left
907 kcal

Oh well on with the rest of the day

Well done getting started with a journal :) and well done getting 30 minutes of rowing

have you calculated your calorie and protein needs or have you estimated ?

I've pretty much estimated my calorie needs, I know the 1300 is pretty low especially for a man but giving myself a higher number to play with would open me up to indulging more which is something i really dont want to do. Im being pretty strict with myself.

hi drew Eating protein in the a.m. is great it will keep you sustained longer. another thing is to add alot of high fiber foods in your diet.Try drinking flavored waters instead of the colas.

Hey, Thanks for the advice there Nanlar, Ive been thinking about getting more leafy greens in my diet, i don't especially like them, but i am sure i can grow to like them. I don't think it's the cola I am addicted too, it's the caffeine. I've always had a huge addiction to caffeine. I will try the flavored waters and see how i get on with them though. Hopefully I wont miss the caffeine too much lol.

Well I am done eating for today, For my dinner i had two haddock fillets at 168 kcal each total of 336 calories.

I felt it was pretty low for a day so i had two snack bars at 85 calories each @170 kcal total.

My evening meal had a total of 506 calories.

Which means today I've eaten a total of 899 calories, Which I feel is very low. I am not too concerned at the moment as I don't feel hungry and I am not going to eat just for the sake of eating.

Be careful of the all-or-nothing approach, because soon you may tire of eating very little and you may decide to drop the whole thing and go all out in the opposite direction. Its commonly known to happen, though you may be an exception. I know that is what is finally working for an obese co-worker, who has tried all the low calorie/deprivation diets to little avail. Best wishes to you :).

Hi Drewdundee!
It's nice to hear from someone who understands what I'm going through. And I admire your resolve to change the way you go about dieting and exercising. I hope I can muster the strength and willpower in myself to stay committed to dieting and exercising. It's not really a question of if I want to or not, I must. I've really hit rock bottom. Keep in touch!

Hey i know its been a little bit since my last post been pretty busy with things. Anyways im still on my diet lost 5 more lb. Trying to get more exercise cant keep up with the rowing all the time gets very boring but im still focusing on what im eating and trying to eat better for the most part its been good but ive slipped up a couple of times, but hey im only human ;)

Little update, I've finally figured that all this rowing is getting me bored as hell, so i've changed my exercise to around 30-60minutes of walking at a quick pace. It's really nice to go for a walk listening to music and having a little sing to myself. I just make sure I take plenty of water with me, Been wearing my pedometer. I clock up around 7000-8000 steps in 60 minutes and using a calculator online it estimates i burn around 1100 calories just doing that. As I previously said I am carrying water around with me more, It really helps to control my appetite. I used to think that people who say water helps control their appetite were basically lying but after doing it myself it really does work.

My diet isnt as restrictive as before, when I first posted this blog/log/diary I was setting myself unrealistic goals of around 500 calories a day. Now I am around 1200 calories a day. I am not sure If I should eat more considering my exercise kinda negates my calorie intake. Anyways, im getting closer and closer to my goal weight. I changed my tracker from Pounds to Kilos, so my target doesn't look so daunting.

Well, exercise has kinda gone out the window for me. I still do a little bit but not as much as I was doing before. I use my rowing machine 3 times a week for 30 minutes each session. As far as the diet is going I've now lost 12kg which I am feeling great about. Now fitting into shirts I've had for a while but havent been able to get into in years. I am feeling alot more confident in myself. I have been sticking to my 1200 calories a day and I am finding it pretty easy. Dont really miss snacking on junkfood all the time. I will say though on saturday I went out and im pretty sure I drank more than 1200 calories, Bad me!.

But on Sunday even with a hangover I was back powering on.

So im one person who is never really happy with the diet plan im on. I've switched back to the atkins. I did the atkins about 4 years ago and I lost a huge amount of weight on it and I never felt hungry. This past week has been a bit of a write off. I've not really been following my diet, but saying that I've not put on a lb, so I guess thats something to be proud of. Anyways back to the atkins.

I love this diet. I keeps me feeling full all the time and the amount of weight I can lose on it is astonishing. Lets see what this week brings. I will update my ticker on friday with my new numbers "if" if lose anything.

Gotta say im very impressived I've lost so much already to be honest I mean 34lb since june is pretty good going for me.

Take care all

Drew
