Downtown's Daily Diary

I lost another pound this week! :hurray:

I've been sick the last couple of days. Nothing serious, just a dry cough and aches and fatigue. I still managed to get my butt to work.

I splurged today after work by having ice-cream with chocolate fudge and a couple of small powdered donuts. I got hungry a little while ago and made a couple of peanut butter crackers---with way too much pb. No salad today either. I need a break once in a while. As someone said in another thread, you need variety.

I've got a week off from work. I plan to stay active by going to water aerobics classes and eating healthy. Today was an exception.

I kinda blew it over the weekend. Company on Saturday with chocolates and lots and lots of bread and 2 helpings of lasagna. I began to get on track on Sunday by having a big salad for lunch and a small bowl of cereal for supper.

Yesterday I went out for dinner with my mother and sister. I got haddock with fries (didn't eat them all) and had something called a dessert shooter for dessert, which was a small glass of something called Chocolate Mousse, which was actually chocolate pudding with bits of Oreo cookie and whipped cream.

For supper I had a small helping of lasagna leftovers.

Today I had a salad at the salad bar at Pizza Hut. I had a bowl of cream of broccoli soup and slice of fococcia bread for supper (after aerobics class). I'm having dessert now, which is some kind of spice tea latte. I'll have to check the name of it again, but it's only 80 calories.

Yesterday and today I had a bowl of my sisters homemade taco soup for lunch. YUM! I had with it a slice of fococca bread w/Smart Balance. Last night for supper I had a bread pizza and tonight I had a BLT. My hormones have me craving chocolate (it's pre-menopausal hormones) and I ate two chocolate-marshmallow cookies after each meal. Make that one cookie after each of the two meals. I did better on my eating yesterday than today.

I played in the snow today. Not literally though, it was to clean my car off after getting 21 inches of snow dumped on us. I didn't have to go to work fortunetly because the schools were all canceled.

Today I had a bowl of Cinnamon Puffins. That's good cereal. I had toast w/peanut butter. For lunch I had a salad and tapioca pudding. For supper I had two eggs sunny side up with toast and 2 slices of bacon. No dessert! That's unusual for me, but I get weighed in on Thursday and I need to really watch it.

I've done better with my eating this week than last week. I was on vacation and went out to eat a few times. My really indulgence occurred tonight when I had a whole wheat english muffin with butter, peanut better, and strawberry jam---loaded! It's what I felt like eating. I'm not eating anything else until after the weigh in tomorrow. I finished my period too so that may have helped with the water retention gain I usually get from it.

Lets' hope I can move my turtle another notch. Salad for lunch tomorrow.

Yeh, I did it. I lost another 2 lbs. I've done well about my snacking at night and if I do get hungry I have a healthy snack instead of junk.

The weather is lousy and they canceled school because we're supposed to get at least a foot of snow today. It just sucks!

Anyway, I just had breakfast and I made a salad for lunch. I was going to bring it to work, but I'll end up eating it here. For supper, I'm not sure yet, but it will be a light one. I wasn't very active this weekend except going grocery shopping and I need to get back on track. I don't know if I'll be going to aerobics tomorrow after work. It depends on the weather and road conditions.

It's been almost a week since my last visit. Things have been weird. My dad's in the hospital because of enormous pain in his back and he's got dementia.

On a bright note, my knee is much better. My hip still bothers my somewhat, but I think the glucosamine is helping. I plan on going to water aerobics tomorrow, depending on my family situation.

I stayed the same weight at last week's weigh-in. I'm still getting greenery every day, although it's been several days since I've had a salad. I'll go back to them when I get an appetite for them.

Saturday, my mother, sister, and I went out for supper to Chinese and I had the shrimp with broccoli. YUM! When I dine out, I try to have at least one veggie.

Today, I had my usual for breakfast---cereal and juice and iced-coffee on the way to work. At snack time I had a Nature Valley almond bar and for lunch I had a 6in. tuna from Subway with lettuce, green pepper, and onion with pickles. No chips or other snack foods. And water to drink.

For supper, I had chicken Ramen noodles with water and juice. And an ice-cream bar for dessert. No, it's not the most nutritious supper, but I couldn't find anything else that appealed to me.

I had a .8 gain this week. Part of the problem could be the McFlurry I had Tuesday after aerobics. But It was so Good! Lesson learned though. I can't be doing that, especially so close to the weigh in.

My college class was cancelled tonight to I'll be going to another aerobics class instead. I'm going to work to take that gain off.

I've done well with portion sizes, and instead of loading my bowl with soup or chowder or my plate with meat and potatoes, I have a fruit cup or some other healthy alternative to go with it. That way, I feel satisfied without over eating on the more fattening or calorie laden stuff.

Yesterday for lunch I had a bowl of homemade seafood chowder (about 1 cup) and whole grain round bread to go with it. For supper, I had an all-beef hotdog and fruit ambrosia for dessert.

Thanks!

Yesterday we ordered out for Chinese. Instead of getting the platter with all the meats and eggroll and Crap Rangoon, I got the chicken with broccoli. What I do is eat the broccoli first. The meal comes in a brown sauce and it gives the broccoli added flavor. Then I start on the chicken, but I don't eat half of it because by then I'm full on broccoli. :hurray:

For lunch, I had left overs. We had left-over chicken wings and I brought two in my lunch box with cottage cheese and pineapple on the side.

For supper I had an all-beef hotdog and a small portion of pork fried rice. For dessert I had a scoop of french vanilla ice-cream. Nothing else tonight.

I went back to my doctor yesterday because I'm still having problems with my hip, leg, and knee. She recommended physical therapy so I'm going in for an evaluation next Monday. Some good news, my weight stayed the same from the last visit about a month ago and my blood pressure is within the normal range. Two months ago it was 150/100. :hurray:

I'm still opting for more nutritious choices, although I do slide once in a while and I had an ice-cream sandwich for dessert tonight. I had one of those box french bread pizza's for supper. For lunch I had a salad of leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, pickled mushrooms, a boiled egg, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, and broccoli florets. I had lite ranch dressing on the side.

I get weighed in tomorrow at work. :willy_nilly:

I gained a pound last week! :cuss:

The good news is I'm seeing a physical therapist for my leg and am now back on track with my eating. Saturday however, I went out to eat and I may have overdid. I ate a big supper and was up at 3 a.m throwing up. Not sure if it was food poisoning or just too much, but Im being careful now.

I've got to go grocery shopping when I get my paycheck. Right now it's peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, noodles, and eggs. I'm going to commit myself to the veggies everyday rule and get some tasty stuff, like mushrooms, romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, fetta cheese, green peppers and basil vinaigrette dressing. I'll add spices for added flavor. I've got to have flavor or salads get old really quick!

Water aerobics tomorrow. :hurray:

Good news! I had a 2 and 1/2 lb. loss this week. I'm going grocery shopping after work to pick up some healthy stuff.

I saw a therapist Monday and had my first therapy session Wednesday. My knee is still sore, but I did have better flexibility after the therapy.

Yesterday I had macaroni soup for lunch with crackers and for supper I went to the restaurant and had liver with potato and side salad. No dessert.

I still continue to go to therapy for my hip and knee, but I'm still in pain and not able to walk study or balanced without a cane. It sucks getting old.

One positive thing is I'm still either losing or maintaining. I continue to eat salads, but I go for a variety of flavor by switching dressings and ingredients. Right now I"m using romaine lettuce, mushrooms, raisins, shredded swiss, cherry tomatoes, dill pickle, and green peppers and onions. I switch between low fat ranch and basil vinaigrette.

I also continue to go to water aerobics. I can get a mild workout in the water because it takes pressure off my joints. My treadmill and taking long walks days are over for now, until I get my hip and knee situated.

I lost 3.8 lbs. when I weighed in Thursday morning. :hurray: I ate salads every day for lunch, making sure to keep them delicious and using a variety of ingredients and dressings. I think this is the key to my success. They are filling and nutritious, and satisfyingly too. I don't snack at night either. Unless I get hungry then I choose a low cal. snack like a handful of cereal and a cup of skim milk.

Hi Risty!

My health hasn't changed month since my last post. I'm still dealing with an arthritic hip and knee, but I did embark on something positive, I've signed up for a weight loss class. Not sure what it will entail, but I'll be with other people who share the same goal, to get healthy and lose weight.

I still attend water rehabilitation at least twice a week just to swim. It helps with flexibility.

Some bad news, I lost my job last June. No fault of my own, they just terminated my position because my services there were no longer needed. So now, while looking for a full-time position, I work as an on-call substitute teacher.

Well, I'll try to stay here more regular. I think I'm gonna need it. Now I'm off to class! :driving:

Yay! So glad to see ya back :)

I'm so so sorry about your job. I hope you'll be able to find one soon!

Good for you on taking that weight loss class. Who knows what it entails, but hey, anything can help right! Let me know how it goes!

Also sorry to hear about your hip and knee. The water exercises should be really good for you as you won't be pressuring those joints!

Hope to hear from you soon :)

The first half hour of class is just for weigh ins. We track our weight once a week during the weigh-in and we were given a food diary to monitor our intake. We were also given a self-assessment sheet to fill out and one for our long term and short term goals.

My short term goal is to lose 5 lbs. by the end of the 8-week class. My long term goal is to get under 200 lbs!

Since I didn't get a call to sub this morning, I plan on going to the pool today. Tomorrow I have an appointment to meet with a rehab councilor at the Career Center (providing I don't get a call to work that day).
