Dominique's Journey :)

Hi there, I just got started on a diary here too, and I have read through yours.

Just a thought, and please nobody lambaste me - this is just something I am going to try - weighing myself every day.

Now hear me out. My mom was bulimic and anorexia while I was growing up, so I witnessed a lot of disordered eating behaviours and attitudes towards body image on general. She would get obsessed with the scale, and every few months she would throw it into the swimming pool! Then she would get a new one and do it again :0

So in principle, my personal opinion was that you should never weigh yourself regularly because it makes you obsess.

Fast Forward 10 years or so. I have been through about four 6-month-long phases of weight loss, where I got to a healthy weight and kept it off for a while, either following dieticians' or nutritionist plans, and once Weigh-less (kind of but not really similar to weight watchers). Every time I lost weight over a period of time, I weighed in weekly or every 2 weeks. I found myself nervous at going to weigh because they were these "occasions", and if the number was higher (even though it could have been water weight that day), I would beat myself up.

Then, during the time period that the weight was regained, I typically just stopped weighing myself and carried on as best I could, eventually reverting back to old binging habits due to stress. The when I weigh myself again, I realise how far gone I am again! :(

Now here is what I am trying at the moment: weighing myself every morning after going to the toilet. I am lucky enough my body works like clockwork (TMI). This way, I desensitize myself to fluctuations in the numbers. This way, maybe I don't HAVE to regain the weight AGAIN this time - maybe I can keep myself conscious enough of my weight (and chart it, like a graph - many websites to do this) - that if I start slipping, there is less chance of me remaining in denial.
So there is my 2cents... ok 80cents

I promise not to hijack your diary again :D

lol this is really funny because i was just thinking about weighing myself everyday, but like you also mentioned i feel id be upset if the number was hgiher one particular day. and its okay you can hijack my diary :p

sorry for not posting these last few days ive been so busy! A quick update i weighed myself friday and i was down another 1.4 pounds, that seems to be the magic number lol. And yesterday we got a dog :D , so that is a plus for me because long walks will burn even more calories.
Heres how today went

Breakfast: half a serving of mini wheats (if that, i wasnt really in the mood to eat breakfast i was more concerned with my puppy and not being late for work lol. -95 calories (idk how many calories for the milk)

Lunch: Starbucks thai chicken wraps w/ peanut sauce and green grapes, i also bought kettle bbq chips (i didnt finish the bag) - approx 660 calories

Dinner: meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Since it was a homemade recipe idk the calories

Snacks: cinnamon toast crunch -217 (not including the half cup of milk)

All together from what i was able to gather i ate 972 calories, but adding dinner plus milk id assume at least around 1600-1700? I havent been pushing myself to count all the calories

I burned off 647 calories. I got a new pacer app that tracks your walking and it ssaid i burned 144 calories which i included, but idk if i should trust the app

Well done on the progress :)

Yaaaay for new puppy!! We got one last year who is now 10 months old, a real little monster. We are thinking of getting her a friend.

Enjoy your puppy!! Say goodbye to sleep for a little while...

Well done Dominique on the 1.4 lb loss & the new puppy. More info please :) (re the puppy :D )

Lol sorry guys ive been gone, last week was a week filled with things i had to do everyday, and with that i lost a little motivation and unfortunately gained a pound and some change. And yes having a dog, you get no sleep..

His name is peanut and hes a little less than a year and a half, im really glad hes not a puppy because he's trained pretty well, he loves walks but for some reason he doesnt play with toys at the moment :( i will post pics of him sometime tomorrow. Having a dog is great for weight loss because of the walks so im really happy we got him. He's a really sweet dog :)

Well im back, and will update on my diet starting tomorrow

:) Life happens, don't worry about it. Not all dogs are toy-motivated, btw. My sister's alsatian will do anything for food or cuddles but doesn't get the point of toys (including balls) at all. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Aww cute. Maybe he is just not ready to play yet ;)

Try get him one of those Kong toys, you can put kibble or dry treats inside and then they chew the tow trying to get the treats. At least he has a comfort toy for when you are not around then. At a year and half he should be done teething though? Not sure. Anyway, enjoy him!!

Yes the adoption people said he probably wont adjust to new toys for weeks, so we're waiting it out, he's still a very friendly dog c:
Breakfast: I made my self breakfast ( a big one) 2 biscuits, 2 sausage links, eggs and a( small carmel mocha w non fat milk from mcdonalds lol )- 820 calories
Lunch: a smoothie bowl (it was so good i am definitely going to have this tommorow) - 218 calories
Dinner: (we went to chilis) I had some cheese fries, hone chipotle chicken strips ( i only had about 2 and a half, i was trying my best to like them but each bite i was confused on whether or not i liked them) - idk how many calories but i know its alot
I burned 515 calories at the gym today. I decided to obviously make today my cheat day since it was the only day i ate food out.

On another note i bought fresh pineapple and learned how to strip it all by myself lol im planning on making pineapple juice soon

Just a mini update :) When i weighed myself friday i was happy to see i lost a pound, once again a pound isnt a lot but its good to be taken in the right steps. My problem is motivation i need to stay more motivated which ill definetely work on.

Also a mini goal i achieved was working out for 5 days a week, i want to increase my endurance/stamina so i can eventually work out longer. I also want to possibly try double work out days, like working out on the equipment then going swimming or double equipment days.

Today
Breakfast: A small fruit bowl i made ( a banana, some pineapple, blueberries and strawberries) and mini pancakes fromwork
Lunch: A hot link
Dinner: we went to tailgaters (for my grandpas bday) i got a philly cheese with onion rings :(, but i ate half of it and it wasnt that big
Snacks: a nature valley pretzel bar
I dont know the calorie count, but i did burn 528 calories today, which i was really happy about :)

I need to get back to counting calories lol

Hi dominiqueh. Being aware of what you are eating & being more active has you sounding more positive, which is great. I often don't actually understand what a lot of US food items are & have to look them up. Hot links? (a sausage?)A philly cheese with onion rings? (still not sure what this is- a bread roll with cheese in it, with fried onion rings?) Breakfast sounds good :) Add some yoghurt to it & you have a really good start to your day.

The problem with traditionally unhealthy food often isn't the food itself but the portion size. So having have HALF a cheese steak sandwich for a meal isn't a big deal as long as you're getting your fruit and veg for the day as well.

lol yeah american food is quite weird and on top of that is was a bar and grill so they dont have much healthy food but, its a bread roll with shredded steak, cheese, jalapenos, and onions.
