Doing this the right way

Hi everyone,

First a little intro. My name is Jess and I am eighteen years old. My current weight is about 190 to 195. This is the heaviest I have ever been my whole life. When I was younger I was never "the thin one". That changed when I was in about 5th grade. I started purging and restricting around that time and I stayed at around 100-110 pounds all the way to 8th grade when I got an ulcer in my throat and was diagnosed Bulimic with anorexic tendencies then hospitalized. Through high school I rarely thought about my weight (or what I was eating for that matter.)
Now that I am graduated I have started to notice my weight again and it is killing me. I don’t have a large frame (I'm 5'3") and the nearly 200 pounds I’m lugging around is straining my knees, ankles, and back.
My goal is to get to around 135-140 by January 2008. And I want to lose the weight the right way. My plan is to keep my calorie intake at around 1300-1400 and work out 5 days a week for a min of 2 hours per day. I absolutely love elliptical machines and stationary bikes so I think I am going to stick with those until my body gets used to working out again. Also I don't want to put too much strain on my knees and ankles right off the bat by jogging on treadmills, running outside ect...

As of right now the gym on the air force base is closed. So, I have been walking my two dogs for about an hour and a half to two hours every day.

Its kind of hard for me to really just start up an online journal but we will see where this thing goes...

Glad to see you decided to post a diary - you might want to start by posting what you eat on a daily basis. A former trainer of mine had said that being healthy was 80% nutrition and 20% working out, and I've found that to be largely true. I'd also suggest thinking of this as a lifestyle change, not just something to do to lose weight, because once you stop doing the healthy stuff, the weight will make its reappearance. That said though, congrats on making the decision to start moving in the right direction.

thanks
well today was okay I woke up realitively late (around 1 pm) and a friend of mine made breakfast/lunch. I had a scrambled egg, a sausage link and a small cinamon roll with 2 glasses of orange juice. For dinner at around 6:30 my boyfriend and I went to a cook out someone was having for a late $th of july party type thing. There I just had a grilled brat, corn and some plain macaroni. I didnt really eat very good today but I didnt over eat like I normally do. I didnt get a chance to walk my dogs today though. Im not going to make up any excuses though I was just lazy. it was 97 degrees today and I just didnt feel like our walk. I think I kind of let down the puppy though.. she is used to her daily walk... ok we will see how tomorrow goes. Im going to try and get some sleep.

You might want to try having 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day, spreading your calories between them. This way you'll be eating every 2-3 hours or so (right around when you start getting hungry).
