Does Weed Lower Testosterone?

i smoke weed. obviously smoking any weed is too much but i smoke a fair ammount and i was wondering how it will affect me. i hear that it lowers testosterone and **** like that but i don't know what to believe on the internet, there are so many conflicting sources.

It's my understanding that is it does lower testosterone, it also effects recovery time [I think]. It's not healthy but I've known a few stoners who have gained a significant amount of lean muscle while still smoking. To the best of my knowledge, there is a lack of research in this dept. I was unable to find any experimental data that were related to weightlifting, only aerobics.

may help

also, possibly biased. ive seen a few against marijuana sites that said the exact opposite, so.

i used to be a 24/7 smoker, and it didnt seem to effect me in that way ;)

A recent study showed that it causes blood to rush to your head, and it can take up to 30 days for blood circulation to return to pre-pot levels. Just something I read in a recent Harpers -- look into it however you like.

From personal experience i can definately tell you that i get an energy burst while smoking the stuff and tend to do stretches while havin a joint. The only way i think it does affect your performance when training is if you want to lift heavy weights. Obviously, smoking relaxes your muscles and mind so there will be lost effort. These days i tend to only have a 'J' at the very end of the day when i have completed all my tasks for the day. Look at it as a reward! It will also depend on what your smokin, solids polute your body extremely so if your worried about it just smoke skunk, this way you know its all natural. Or as natural as it gets for us pot heads ha ha x

It actually leaves your system a lot faster if you exercise regularly and drink plenty of water. By increasing your vitamin c also hurries the process. Studies show that smoking marijuana over the space of ten years decreases the amount of brain cells in certain areas of your brain. Although anyone who smokes knows that you gain different thought processes due to the chemicals released in the drugs. Basically your brain is evolving in a different manner to that of someone who has never smoked before. The main chemical released when smokin is cannabinoids. The brain actually produces this chemical and is related to relaxing agents similar to an antidepressants. Cannabis is definately a good muscle relaxant as it can be prescribed from your doctor to relax you and help you sleep.

Tobacco is natural too...

I know!!!

I dont actually smoke many cigarettes now a days and i put little to none tobacco in my spliffs. The effects of cigarette smoke last only a few minutes whereas a spliff depending on the strength can last hours. Having gone from smokin a lot to not smoking cigs and only having a joint in the evening is a major health step while still doing what i enjoy

Nicotine is extracted from the tobacco plant. Yes, it's natural. So is ammonia, which is found naturally in the tobacco plant.

So corple, what made you give up smokin? If you dont mind me askin! was it training? I gave up smoking cigs at new year i still do smoke occasionally usually when i drink. Did you find it hard? Ive been smokin over ten years now and i feel so much better when i dont have a cig but sometimes the addiction takes over, its all in the mind i know and i have not got 100% willpower. I dont believe in patches i think its a load of bulls**t! Any suggestions?

well....ive only smoked, literally, about 2-3 cigarettes in my life. i used to smoke marijuana everyday. the reason i quit was, im 16 and it was costing me money (started when i was 12....), i knew id be better off without it, i workout and eat clean ( oh boy, my eating habits have changed alot ). strangley never had withdrawls, even when i quit cold turkey for a few weeks. hate to say, even though i dont spend money on the stuff, i still smoke with my friends 2-3 times a week. :( but, i often 'just say no'. and yeah, i could be totally wrong, but if i was gonna quit smoking cigarettes, i really do beleive that patches or pills are just a mental thing. making you beleive they are working, so you stop.
if you want to quit smoking cigarettes, you can stop cold turkey. if you dont want too, then youll probably have a harder time.

Marijuana, as I understand it, isn't physically addictive, so there isn't withdrawal (other than a nostalgic longing for your "high times").
