does elliptical trainer tone up anything

Yes. Using the elliptical properly will elevate your heart rate. If you are burning fat and not calories (no food) you can lower your overall body fat. This will make your muscles more visible and give you that toned look.
In terms of actually working out out your muscles.. Yes the elliptical does workout your muscles, but it is not the type of thing that will make your quads bulge or anything (unless you are genetically gifted).

:)

you gotta lower your overall bodyfat with cardio and nutrition. There is no such thing as spot reduction. Abs will show if you can get your body fat down low enough that they are visible.

Gawd you're tiresome. Don't make multiple threads just because someone doesn't specifically address your problems.

Eliptical workouts are cardio. Cardio burns fat. You can't "tone". This is the second time I've told you this today.

A few things I do to lower my bf are consume EFAs which promote the use of stored fat as fuel and I also run on an empty stomach.
By running on an empty stomach your body has not choice but to turn on itself for fuel. The downside of this is lean muscle loss which is hard to avoid using this technique.. But the good side is, after your liver has been cleared of its glucose/glycogen stores, your actual body fat will become fuel.

By running (or some other cardio ie elliptical..) 3 days each week on an empty stomach you can force your body to burn fat as fuel.

When you are done do no immediately eat, your body is still at a high metabolic rate and will continue to burn fat for close to an hour post cardio. If you do eat right away, your body will likely absorb and hold on to more.

The whole idea of "toning" is somewhat of an industry term used in ads and crap. In order to be toned one must lower their body fat and increase their muscle mass. Im not saying become a body builder, but by performing moderate weight exercises you can stimulate growth of smaller muscle fibers.

Hi Niceone,

I'm currently doing my cardio in the mornings before breakfast. I normally eat about 1 hour after training, is that enough time or should I be leaving a longer gap. After training and showering I'm normally starving and can't wait to have breakfast:eek:

1 hour is good. As far as I know, 30 minutes to 1 hour is the recommended time to wait. :)

EFAs are essential fatty acids. Check out if you get a second.
