Does a guy my size need protein shakes?

im a fairly big guy, im about 6'1 240 pounds, im weight training but i dont think i get nearly enough protein on advb maybe 50 grams in a good day maybe. I wanna burn some fat and gain muscle. so protein shakes a good idea a guy my size?

I'm probably about your size but a little lighter right now. I try to kept it simple. Fruit, Vegs, Water, Slim milk, some pasta and bread.

No soda's, cookie, chips, ice cream anything with "creamy" in the title etc.

A good starting point is too count calories in my opinion. I try to eat 2000 to 2200 per day. That being about 10 calories per pound of desired weight per day. Well to compensate (for not being able to count some meals that well) i go under my mark because really i want to be 215 another 13 to 15 pounds to go. I should be at 17-18% bodyfat at that point. Which is fine for me.

I general rule is anywhere from 10cal to 18cal per pound depending on your excercise and metabolism. If i lose too much body mass on 10 to 12 cal i will just increase my intake. Its working fine so far. I believe my biceps are more dense then they ever been. About 16" cold.

Whoops chicken, eggs and fish lol

If you are weight training, you should definetly be getting more protein than 50 grams per day! At your weight and goals, you should be looking at at least 200 to 300 grams of protein per day, depending on how intense you are training. I'm a vegetarian, female, and doing moderate weight training, but I try to get at least 90-100 grams per day. You are putting your muscles through a lot when you weight train; enough protein to repair and build is essential. Protein shakes are a great way to get that extra protein in, but try to distribute your protein throughout the day at each meal. Good luck with your goals!

I have seen many different ideas on protein. The one my cousin (soon to be pro bodybuilder) uses is 1g of protein for every pound of bodyweight. But I have to say that protein is way overrated in a lot of circles. Sure you need it but carbs and glucose stores are more important for performance.

You won't see gains at 50grams of protein a day. Cut the junk food and start a clean cutting diet, 2500-2800 cals depending upon your activity level. Try and breakdown your daily food in 40/40/20 ratio. (40grams protein/40 grams carbs/ 20 grams protein) That said you should be getting around 250 grams of protein. A lot eh? Well theres the answer to you question, protein shakes. A good shake will give you 30grams WHEY protein, 200 cals, with lil/no fat or carbs. Also a good tasting proteinshake is amazing and will help you cut cravings and junk food.

Best Deal:

EAS 100% Whey Protein at that site, cheap, great tasting, 23 g protein per serving (6lbs worth of servings), 120 calories, only like $23.00. Mix it with 8 ounces skim milk, throw in ice cube, one scoop and blend. (not trying to sell this stuff either, just what I have found to be the best)
