just been killing myself for a week and a half. 2 hours in the gym everyday running somtimes 8 miles...eating no more than 1200 calories a day and i only lost 1 pound!!! reallyyy??? how does that happen??

it takes a little while for your body to get used to the change in rotine i found that i put on weight at first i felt like giving up but i relized i had lost inches, so now i mesure weight and inches as sometiems we build muscle aswell as loosing weight. im sure it will speed up x

When you work out your body needs more fuel.
Calculate your bmr and eat the calories you need for you height, age, weight, gender and activity level, as a random number like 1200 can actually sabotage what you're trying to achieve here...
And going under 1200 cals is not recommended.

I also agree with Bexxx, you should give your body more time.

Muscle also weighs more than fat, it sometimes looks like you're not losing much on the scale, while you're losing inches all over your body.
Personally, I find it better to track my weight loss by measurements than weighing.

Also, drink lots of water!
It really DOES help with weight loss, check out the On Topic and Advanced Weight Loss sections for good reads and tips.

The most probable reason maybe is you've hit plateau. Almost everyone reaches a weight loss plateau at some point in their fitness lives. The reason is that the human body works hard to keep energy intake and output in balance. In other words, your body does not like to lose weight (not a revelation, huh?). After your initial weight loss, your progress will slow down and eventually stop even though your exercise and food intake is consistent. The bottom line is that the very efforts you make to burn more calories may eventually slow it down.

I dont know much about you like your height, body frame, age,etc...but my guess would be that you are not eating enough, or maybe eating the wrong things.
But listen if you know you are doing what you should be (the right) way.
My biggest advise for weightloss is patience. Learn to be patient with your body, it has to adjust to things. To be honest with you 1lb is good, give yourself props.
It might be a slow start but it'll pick up, somethings gotta give.
DO NOT give up because of this, why would u? the number is still heading towards the right direction isn't it? So....keep going!

DONT GIVE UP!
