hi all. had my ballon fitted on the 3rd feb and i lost 5lbs in the 1st week. but over the last 12 days i have only lost 1.5lbs. what am i doing wrong, i also find that i am feeling hungry more but i know that my balloon hasnt deflated as i can feel it, please help

You can't really tell much in one week or two. Your weight will fluctuate due to water retention and other factors. Wait and see what happens over a longer period of time. 1.5 lb in 12 days is not so bad, anyway.

yeah i know but i was really hoping that it would be more! do you think its worth asking if i can get sun apestat or something? guna go on an excercise mission this week see if i can speed it up

just take it one step at a time. you should be going towards a direction of losing weight as you slowly but surely progress..

Mine too :(

Hi Amy,

Just wanted to let you know that I have had my balloon for 4 months mow and have lost 11 pounds, all of which came off in the first 2 weeks :( Since then nothing. Within 2 weeks of having it my appetite was back to normal, I could eat the same amounts and still feel as hungry as often as I used to without the balloon. Needles to say I am very dissapointed, not in the balloon but in myself, for spending all that money on something that really didnt work like it thought it would, I could have taken my mail on a nice holiday instead. I could have achieved the same results with a bout of stomach flu :nopity:

My advice to you is to not rely on the balloon and just keep at it, you can do it!

The balloon is not a solo cureall. It is an aid. It is up to you to make it work by putting in that work. It will take time.

hi all, i do feel fuller after food and am defo not eating as much and done some exercise but i just expected to have lost a bit more by now! however starting tmw i am going to start running regular to see if i can shift it a bit faster

Stop right there. That last sentence of yours says it all..shift it a bit faster.

Weight loss is not a race. You shouldn't look at it that way. You have already taken a step that will (if you do things right) give you accelerated weight loss. I'm wondering what you thought the balloon will do? It's not going to magically remove the weight. It is going to take TIME and EFFORT. Period. You are going to do yourself harm if you don't do this the right way.

I have to agree with Jericho.

What I find interesting here is that you don't talk about WHAT you're eating. I see this often here on the boards with people who have had weight loss surgery. They think of the surgery as the thing that will cause the weight loss ... but they don't actually pay attention to WHAT they're eating.

Choosing nutritious foods that help you feel satiated and aren't calorie laden is key to losing weight - with or without surgical help. You say that you're eating as much as you used to ... and that right there is key.

Until you change what you eat and how you eat ... you're not going to see a difference.

hi
firstly i am eating less. secondly i do eat a healthy diet, hardly any fat or sugar, i have to, i have hypoglycemia!

I know you are saying that you are eating a healthy diet but what does that mean? Are you told to eat X amount of calories a day? Are you tracking your intake? I could eat all the healthy food i want but that doesnt mean i will lose weight. Being in a calorie deficit will make me lose weight.

Like stated above, the balloon is an aid to assist you in your weight loss efforts. It's really on you now to learn how to make this work long term.

I wish you the best of luck. Stick around and let us know how things go.

So you really dont have much iea what you're doing then? less in quantity may sound nice but often isnt nessarily what will help you loose weight. Look at WHAT you're eating as well, and i dont just mean fatty things.
You can eat a mars bar a day and its technically not overly fatty or large but its still calorie laden (not sure how well that would go down with a balloon! lol).
Fat is also in healthy things, ie avacado, nuts etc. You could be eating a couple of handfuls of nuts thinking you are healthy and its a small portion and not realize the fat content in it as well.
Try logging what you eat and in what quantity, use fitday.com or one of those websites and log the food, then you can check the actual content of the food for protein and fat and all the other stuff.

This is your chance to learn decent eating habits because when that balloon comes out, you want to make sure you stay thing right? not just regain the weight.

this is what i eat:
9am 1 weetabix with semi skimmed milk
11am half a cerial bar approx 40 cals or less
1pm ham salad sandwhich in wholemeal bread one slice, low fat yoghurt, small orange
4pm other half of the cerial bar
7pm evening meal usually stir fty veg with salmon or steamed veg with chicken, on a small plate

drinks, tea with no sugar, semi skimmed milk and lots of water

this is the diet given to me by my dietician

Seems low in protein and high in carbs but if your dietician gave you that then who I am to say other wise.

Here is my two cents. I am not sure how much you need to lose but one thing i can promise is you will not be at your goal weight tomorrow. What you need to do is learn what it is going to take to lose weight and keep it off long term. THAT is the key to success.

Understand how the whole process works. Calories in vs. Calories out= Weightloss.

Whatever you do dont be disappionted, frustrated, scared or any other emotion. Stay focused on your long term goal with some short term goals mixed in and you will be fine. If you lose 1 lb a week, so be it, it's still a loss. I'd kill for a 1 lb loss right now.

Stick around, read and keep us updated.

hi matt, yeah its high in carbs, but they are all whole grain, never white, i need them in all my meals because of my blood sugar probs, i dont think id be able to function without them, not without fainting 4 times a day anyway lol. ive started going running a few times a week and feel a bit more positive now, just didnt want ppl to think that im eating mars bars etc. im not. thanx 4 ur comments
