Diary of MNexercisegirl

Workout today was great. I added 5 pounds to my deadlifts and rows. those two exercises are my last ones and the rows kicked my butt!

Right Now my workout is at 5x5 for the following:
Squats 95lbs
Bench 65lbs
Deadlift 70 lbs
Rows 75 lbs

The squats I could probably add another 5 pounds, Maybe I'll add on Wednesday in the last 2 sets. Same with Bench.

Nutrition

I'm finally getting it. Fitday has been really great. I looked at my eating habits over the past week and I've been seeing that I'm a carboholic. Over 200g almost everyday and barely 100g of protein. Don't even get me talking about my fat grams. But the beauty of all this, is that I now know what I need to fix.

As in the past I didn't think my nutrition was unbalanced. I thought I was eating healthy and getting enough of everything my body needed. But now I know better. Guesstimating and assuming is not the way to go.

When I first started this, I didn't want to count my calories and I didn't want to be watching what I ate all the time. But now, I love going into fitday and being able to adjust my food and knowing that I've had enough carbs for the day or that I need more protein. I'm learning and surprisingly I'm loving it.

that's great mn :) i do the same...i was also having too much carbs on some days, then on some too much protein. it helps me balance :D
have a great day :D

Thanks Lena, hope you have a great day or evening? I saw your post in Steve's diary. He's a great person and give out really great advice! I hope all goes well!

i really like fitday... did you get the full version im so glad i did :) the pie chart for protein, fat, and carb looks nice and balanced.

What kind of protein shake are you using?

I was using the online version and then went to downloaded version and realized that all my custom foods couldn't get entered in. So I'm still using the online one. It's fine, I still get what I need from it, and maybe in the long run I'll use the downloaded one.

I haven't had a protein shake in awhile, but when I do, I usually buy the EAS Chocolate Whey Protein and make the shake myself. It's super easy and you can put watever you want in the blender and it takes minutes to be done. I always have frozen strawberries on hand and usually make it with 1 tablespoon of whey, a handful of strawberries, 1 cup of skim milk or just water if I don't feel like milk, some sugar or splenda and press a button. I also love this asian fruit called lychees and add it with the strawberries and it tastes like bubbletea!

Last night we went over to my cousin's house for dinner. It was a great day out and we wanted to spend it with friends and I'm pretty sure my husband wanted to drink some beer. I'm not a drinker and even when I do drink, I'm done in about 5 minutes after a shot. Plus I'm not a big beer fan - but give me some wine on a nice day and I'm set.

Back to the point, we had dinner over there and I totally forgot about my protein and carb balance. I had already eaten enough carbs for the day and I realized, in the middle of scooping the rice into my mouth, I didn't really need to eat it. So I tried to be sneaky and eat more meat on the table. They had some stir fried shrimp and ohoa (a vietnamese dish with bitter melon stuffed with ground pork cooked in a soup). I tried to eat more of those things and then started feeling full. I finished and they told me that I ate too little and to me I ate way too much. Goes to show that eating at home is just so much easier. You can measure out your portions and not worry about someone telling you you're eating too little or too much.

It's weird. Rice is such a staple in my household and within my family circle. Dinner has always been a family thing ans centered around the rice, get the rice ready, put the plates out, scoop out the rice for everyone, sit and eat. Dinner always starts with the rice and so when I went to my cousin's for dinner, I was doing all of these things because it was what I always did.

Change, it will get there.

Went to do some lifting during lunch today. Added more weights to my squats and bench press and deadlifts. Row was still kicking my butt at the end.
Squat: 100 lbs
Bench: 70 lbs
Deadlift: 75 lbs
Row: 75 lbs.

I got on the scale today too...136.5. Not sure what's happening but I gained a pound from last week. I still have yet to get my bodyfat tested.

Last night I went to play volleyball and was hoping to have a little more competition, but it was OK. Good thing we played for a good hour and a half. It was rough in the beginning and everytime I got a set I was telling myself to get up there strong and swing at it. About 50% of the time, my timing was off and I'd hit the ball off my finger tips or only partly on my hand or be too late on my approach. I'm hoping that this workout is going to help somehow with my performance on the court.

I'm on week 2, and seeing some muscle in my legs and feeling stronger. I have to keep telling myself to be patient and let my body work and read more so I can learn how to adjust my workouts and nutrition. By the time April comes around, I'll be out so much with soccer and volleyball practices I'm going to need the muscle because of all the running that I'll be doing.

Yesterday was the first day that all my macros were balanced. I got enough protein, carbs and fats for the day. My HIIT sessions since Friday have been really hard lately and I wasn't able to go beyond a HR of 165 for my past 2 sessions. Do I need to increase my speed, do longer intervals? I'll have to experiment tonight.

impressive weights there - congratulations...

You think so? I feel like a weakling when I'm doing them. At the gym that I frequent, there's this other asian guy that's always there around the same time I am. He's slightly taller than me and buff (not as buff or as cute as steve;) ). He's lifting these extremely heavy weights - the ones where I could never lift, even with 2 hands. But when he starts to lift, I swear the whole gym can hear him. Grunting like a pig in pain...But it works for him.

Anyhow, thanks for the compliment!
