Hello all!

To begin my journey into recording my weight loss here I decided to answer the questions in the pinned post.

  1. What is your current height and weight? Current weight is 13st 9lb, I've already lost 14lb in the last 28 days. I was 14st 9lb at start weight. I am 5ft 5inches tall. (Without heels )
  2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? My 'ideal' weight would be 9st 7lb, but I'm setting a first realistic goal of 11st.
  3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? In November 2017 I'd like to have reached my first goal of 11st (3 stone off) and be starting my secondary goal
  4. Why do you want to lose weight? So this is where it gets interesting. In the past I've wanted to lose weight for my health and my looks. This time it's a bit different. I am a carrier of a genetic condition which causes blindness, I'd like to have a child. In order to do that I need to have IVF so they can remove the faulty gene (science is amazing!) but before I can even get referred I need to be under 11st. This may explain why this month has been the easiest weight loss I've ever had - because of my motivation.
  5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? So I've covered major life event above. But what is helping me is thinking about smaller events along the way, Summer holiday in September, Christmas party, work trip to the USA in January.
  6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Stress eating and boredom eating - only really when alone. I rarely overeat in front of other people. By myself I can throw back a McDonald's like you've never seen!
  7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? My weight has gone up and down since my teens, I got married two years ago and moved into a sedentary job, then I lost my dad last year. Thinking about what I was eating hasn't been a priority. Also, I'm terrible for not drinking enough water.
  8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? I plan to continue what I have been doing so far, calorie counting and drinking lots of water!
  9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? I lost 2.5st before my engagement using weight watchers. What I learnt there was that when I record my food intake I eat a lot less. I also took up running and signed up for a half marathon.
  10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? Complacency. Just not thinking a about it as it creeped back up!
  11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work? I struggle with diets that say 'you can have as much of X as you like!' Because I eat a lot of it. Fruit on WW was like that, bananas, grapes and pineapple especially.
  12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? Yes! That's what works for me
  13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook? Every night. We have 'hello fresh' boxes which are like recipe kits. The meals aren't actually that low in calories so I often half my portion and have the rest for lunch.
  14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go? Rarely, probably about once a month to local restaurants.
  15. What are your three favorite foods? Halloumi, chocolate and wine (it has calories it counts right?!)
  16. What are your three favorite restaurants? Miller and Carter (steaks), Thai and Italian.
  17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food? Not eat as much of it, track what I eat and measure portions.
  18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? I'd be able to get pregnant :) and i'd have a much happier shopping experience.
  19. Do you eat when you are not hungry? Yes - I'd forgotten what hungry feels like.
  20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? Yes massively.
  21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret? That's the only time I do binge eat. Mortifying but yes - chocolate stashed away, secret fast food in car parks before going home or at lunch.
  22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? Not when sad or depressed, certainly when nervous 0r stressed.
  23. Do you eat as a reward? No, I try to avoid that.
  24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? Not at lunchtime, but we do for dinner.
  25. What do you normally eat for a meal? Really does vary with our recipe boxes. But soup is a solid lunch staple.
  26. What type of snacks do you eat? Fat free yogurts, grapes - I try to avoid snacks.
  27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing? Love the treadmill! And stairmaster, I'm also swimming more. I've missed the last two weeks though due to work.
  28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home? Joined a country club! It's crazy expensive and very 'gossip girl' but I'm trying to get my monies worth.
  29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise? Walking the dogs, running on the treadmill and swimming.
  30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? So, it doesn't work for most but I weigh myself daily and track it. I find this helps me take everything a day at a time. I do ignore fluctuations though and focus on the big picture.
  31. Do you have rewards for certain goals? So every 1lb I lose I've transferred £20 into my savings. I've not noticed the money going because it's what I spent on secret food.

And so it begins! I'll try and write here once a week and will happily accept any advice anyone has :)

Start Weight : 14st 9
Current Weight : 13st 9
Target 1 : 11st
Target 2: 9st 7lb

Hi, Maggie & welcome to the forum. It's great that you gave answers to the pinned post. It gives us an insight into who you are & that helps. What an incentive to lose weight. All the best with it hon. You will do this I'm sure!

We have 'hello fresh' boxes which are like recipe kits. The meals aren't actually that low in calories so I often half my portion and have the rest for lunch.
I love hello fresh - it's expensive but so worth it! Halloumi and wine also my favourite things :D

I started at over 14 stone and I'm currently at 12 stone - it's achievable! I found logging my calories a real help but everyone does it their own way x

I know! Hello fresh has stopped us having so many takeaways so it's close to being break even! Logging calories is looking like the best way - how long did it take you to get to 12st?

Thanks x

I've only just got to 12 stone so it's taken about 7 months to lose 34lbs.. I have been averaging about a lb a week (28 weeks) so I've been happy with my progress. Def getting harder the closer I get to my goal though! Myfitnesspal is really good - a lot of us on here use it xx
