Diary of a Big Fat Man

First off welcome to the site you have found a great place for support and knowledge.

You have a set yourself up for success in my opinion with tracking your intake and making a diary.

My girlfriend and I joined a gym ourselves and could only do a minute or so on a cross trainer and in 6 week we did 20 minutes of intervals.

You have been given some very sound advice in getting in rest days (I sure have trouble getting in more than one day a week)

We really like getting on a cross trainer or elliptical and doing interval training we started with 5 seconds as hard as we could go then 45 seconds recovery we are doing 15 seconds hard and 15 second recovery now we do this for 10 minutes then take a 3 minute break and do another 10 minutes.

We are working with a trainer 2 days a week we started at ½ hr sessions and are now at 1 hr sessions and have started weight training for a power lifting competition next July.

This can be done and you will really start feeling great quickly.

Lee, it sounds like you're doing great! I was 396 pounds at the beginning of June, and now I'm 296, so this can be done! When I first started out, hardcore running/walking was a bit much on the knees, so I was playing basketball a lot too. It's a great workout, even if you're by yourself. Try a few different drills: stand with the basketball at the corner of the free throw line, and run in dribbling for a layup. Rebound the ball and dribble out to the other corner, turn around and drive in for another layup. Go back and forth like this until you've made 20 layups. It may not sound hard, but trust me, it is if you make yourself move fast. If you can't do 20, 10 or 15 is great.

The most important piece of advice I can give you is to take pride in what you are doing. Let everyone around you know about it. It creates accountability. If your friend Steve at work knows you're trying to lose weight, you're not going to let him see you eating McDonald's and blowing back up, right? Revel in this, enjoy it. Being 300 or 400 and whatever pounds sucks, yes, but it creates a great opportunity. People like you and I have the opportunity to lose over 100 pounds. How many people can say they accomplished something like that in their lifetime? You only live once, and hopefully, you only lose this weight once, so enjoy the journey.

I'm loving all the advice and encouragement I'm getting on here it makes my journey so much easier. I have actually visual results today. I felt smaller and like 8 people told me that I look like I lost weight and they didn't even know I was trying to lose weight. That's such a great feeling...

welcome to the forum,

I have found the advice and friendship on here a great help, hopefully you will too. The biggest help I have found apart from the advice is the accountability, during my breaks at work I may have popped to the canteen and bought some crisps(chips) now I have a quick look online and it reminds me of my goals.

Still working towards my goals not much to update because haven't weighed myself in awhile but I feel better and my clothes are getting big on me

I love it when my clothing starts getting baggy, what a rewarding feeling. For myself, it helps me stayed focused because its not just about numbers,, I can see it in the mirror ~ keep up the hard work Lee, good for You ~ Michelle

My experience-it will be very difficult!
Good luck!

I know it will but I didn't get this fat overnight and don't expect to hit my goals without a long year and a half long or more battle. Anything worth having is worth making an effort and changing yourself for the better to attain.

Today was hard for me so far. I didn't get a good nights sleep last night because I kept tossing and turning. So when it came time to work out I was already tired but made myself do it anyway. This fat isn't going to beat me but it's really fighting back hard right now but I know I'll be skinny in the end...

You can do it Lee, i am fatter before but i lost some weight already, it's really hard in the start but as you go through it will be easier as you see results and others noticing it. Its true that we dont gain the fat that we have overnight so it would took a long time to lose them.. good luck

This is so true, and the reason why so many people fail so often. Guess what? It took me many many years to get to morbid obesity. Now if it takes a few years to get to a good healthy weight, no problem. I'm adding extra years to my life expectancy anyhow.

Been hurt for a few days and slowly getting back to working out. Wow it sucks to get hurt at the start of a weight loss journey.

Went to the gym today for the first time in awhile. My sprained ankle really kept me sidelined for awhile but in a way I'm proud of myself because in the past if I would have gotten injured or been really sore I'd have said ok enough of this and quit. So in a way it was great to see a different side of myself who didn't run away or quit when a challenge arose but persevered and overcame it while keeping my motivation.

Down 10lbs so far this week after a major change up to my workout routine. I've added more resistance training and less cardio. I also have decided to go to the gym no more than 4 days a week because I think I may have been over doing it. I'm happy the results are starting again but even cooler than the weight loss is in the last 2 weeks I've lost 6 inches off my waist!!! Needless to say I'm happy.

Awesome man! Keep up the work. :cheers2:

I think a lot of people (myself included) overdo the exercise. You doing free weights for resistance training? I always use the machines at the gym even though I know free weights are better. I keep thinking I need to focus more on the weights but I keep putting it off. Way to go!

I try to mix it everything up so one day I use machines the next maybe free weights just so my body doesn't get used to anything. I prefer machines but seem to get a better harder workout with free weights

Missed my gym day today because I had such a bad toothache I didn't feel like going so I'm going to need to make it up this week. Kinda sucks that I can't get into the dentist til my next gym workout day but on the bright side it hurts to bad to eat so maybe that will offset it (just kidding). I'll just try to do some extra exercises during my free time going to force myself to work them in even if it's just take the stairs, do some push ups before bed or whatever I can come up with.
