Diary Fitforaking

I'm starting to realize that "making your mind up" to do something is 90% of the battle.

Hey Fit, you're so right on that. A lot of it has to do with sheer determination and resigning yourself to a new way of life.

I agree with Michee. You're off to a great start, and thanks for posting in my journal! :)

I'm having withdrawals....

Today is Friday, and I've only played racquetball once this week. I played Monday night and re-injured my right foot. This is the second time in a month I've hurt it. So, I decided to lay off the racquetball this week. If this had been a normal week, I probably would have played for the fourth time this AM. But...I haven't. And I can't go to the gym to lift, because you know...I lift with my foot, right? (sarcasm) Amazing at the excuses we find...

But I have been using my time wisely and occasionally physically productive. I've been working out in my shop in the evenings gather stuff for a yard sale that my wife is having today and tomorrow. Lots of sweating and lifting....so maybe I did get my cardio and weight training in this week afterall. Reminds me of a discussion Steve and I have been having over in a different thread.

Today is a new day. Hope everyone has a blessed one!

What's the deal with your foot? Why does it keep getting injured?

I'm not sure to be honest.

I'm thinking I may need a new pair of shoes. The first time it began hurting (always "begins" hurting while playing racquetball) it was a pain starting just to the right of my big toe and extending straight up the foot.

This second time, I had the same pain, but also was hurting inside my arch. My physician is a personal friend of mine and has offered to x-ray it. I'm going to get a good pair of shoes this weekend....if that doesn't help I'll probably get it checked out. The pain is pretty bad. The morning after hurting it both times I was barely able to put any weight on it. Between my knees and now my foot, the people at work are getting used to seeing me hobbling around. :)

Now, on top of that...I somehow strained my right hamstring yesterday (not sure how, but it wasn't anything strenuous). Not sure if it's related, but I also have something going on with my right calf. I had a really bad cramp in it one night over a year ago. Since then, it feels weak...and always feels like it wants to cramp on me. I can move it too fast or a certain way and it feels like it's going to catch. I have to immediately stop that motion and slowly straighten it out. I've had probably half a dozen cramps in the past year. I'm wondering if I somehow strained my hamstring while trying to compensate for my foot, knee and calf?

Looks like I may have began asking you about lower body exercises a little too late, LOL. (although the calf thing is definitely one reason I was asking)

Sounds to me like you need to find yourself a good orthotics doctor or podiatrist as well a a good massage therapist.

I'd see if there are any ART practitioners near you, which you can check on .

Well...nutritionally it was a horrible weekend. Was very busy, so lots of convenience eating...I didn't track any of it, so I'm not even going to attempt to estimate calories.

But, today is a new day. All I have is today...no promises beyond that.

It was a beautiful weekend weather wise. I was outside most of the weekend...temp was around 80 with a nice breeze.

I did get to play racquetball this morning before work. I wore a pair of Nike Shox that my son was no longer wearing. My foot still hurt, but not nearly as bad. I think I'll wear these until they wear out then get myself a brand spankin' new pair.

Hope everyone had a blessed weekend!

So I've made a few decisions...first is to not post EVERYTHING I eat in this journal. I'm tracking my intake via my Blackberry/Livestrong/Daily Plate. Secondly, I've decided not to weigh myself daily. I never let it get me down if I didn't get the expected results, but I would maybe over think things and try to make too many micro-adjustments instead of just staying the course for awhile.

Yesterday was a good day. Racquetball in the AM followed by a pretty good day of eating. Got up this AM, did some stretching and a little work on the bowflex. Have a game of racquetball scheduled for this afternoon after work. Man, I really look forward to those few hours I get to go play.

Forget yesterday! Today is a new day everyone!!!

Hope y'all have a blessed day!

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Total caloric intake for the day was 1,978, just shy of my 2,000 goal. Yay me!

Played racquetball for 2 hours last night! What an incredible workout!!! When we got done, I was exhausted...and sore. I went home, took a shower and went to bed. I slept HARD...

Today, I'm dealing with soreness. But it's not near as bad as it has been in the past. I think my body is finally adjusting some to this increased activity level.

Today is a new day! Hope everyone has a blessed day!

Good morning to you too Steve. Thanks for stopping by! I'm about to send you a PM regarding your response to my question the other day.

Yesterday I missed my calorie goals :(

After a "situation" with some popcorn chicken from the Walmart deli, I ended up at 2,645 calories versus my goal of 2,000. Not a horrendous day....but not a great one.

I can't change yesterday, but today is a new day!! The journey continues...

Thursday was a good day! Got a good racquetball workout in the AM...and total caloric intake for the day was 1,454. Lower than my goal...but I only ate when I was hungry...so that's not a bad thing, right?

Played a guy in racquetball this AM who is MUCH better than me. I held my own with him, but he ultimately whooped me every game. It was nice to hear him say how much I have improved since the last time we played. :)

I've only had a bowl of cereal and coffee so far....kinda looking forward to lunch though, LOL.

Everyone have a blessed day!!!

I love raquetball, but get my arse kicked everytime I play no matter who I play against. Once I got hit in the face so hard with the ball that it broke my goggles! Its a great work out though.

Owl...I must say...your avatar creeps me out....I think his eyes follow me when I move from side to side :leaving:

Anyways, back to racquetball...I absolutely love the sport. It is such a good workout. It gets the heart rate going...not to mention all the muscles that it works. We usually play for an hour and a half to two hours. The time flies by...I get bored out of my mind when I go to the gym and get on the treadmill for 45 minutes :banghead:

Do you play frequently?

I have never played racquetball - I love the idea of it but I have NO coordination. I'd probably smack myself in the face and have to be carried off to the hospital.

Kara,

If you ever do play...wear eye protection. You can google some pretty nasty pics where folks have been hit in the eye with the ball. It can get to moving over 100mph...

I get hit (usually in the back, shoulders, leg) probably 3-4 times every time I go. Haven't been hit in the face yet *knocks on wood*

You could do like me and have your doctor be your opponent ;)

I don't play too frequently due to the fact that we have two courts in town and they are booked weeks in advance. Usually I get in on it when someones partner cancels, I'm on the sub list.

My avi is totally creepy, thats why I love Richard Simmons...I have a really weird sense of humor.

Owl-

And how is Richard Simmons a fitness guru???? Doesn't he look a tad bit out of shape to you? I have no room to talk....I'm waiting for the Rosanne Barr fitness DVD to come out :ack2:

Holy moly....am I glad the weekend is over. I think that's the first time I've ever said that in my life.

My wife and I had a date night Friday night and my eating went downhill from there. Oiy....

But today is a new day (I have to keep reminding myself of that...) Can't control yesterday...or the day before...only today.

I'll probably be laying off the racquetball this week. Felt something "pop" in my foot Friday morning...and it's been really painful all weekend. It's getting better, but I think I'm gonna rest it. I think I'm going to focus on weight training this week and finally try to get something that resembles a routine together. I'm tired of just going to the gym and saying, "oh, I think I'll do 3 sets of these...and these...but not those".

Hope everyone has a blessed day!

E.

My eating has been pretty decent yesterday and today. It couldn't have gotten much worse than the weekend!

I had 2,060 calories on Monday and I'm currently at 920 today. I'll eat a reasonable supper and a snack and probably do ok.

No racquetball tonight :( the guys are going without me. It's kind of depressing...oh well, I'll go home and do some therapy on my foot. I definitely think I'm going to do some calf and hamstring exercises tonight. I really need to start strengthening my legs. I think by doing so will help both my knees and my feet.

Hope everyone has a blessed rest of the day!

E.
