Dextrose Ratio??

Ok, so i just got my 2lb bag of dextrose for my PWO protein shake. I tried it today after my workout by doin 1 scoop whey to 2 scoop dextrose, like i read in a previous post and it was DISGUSTING! I use ON chocolate whey, this shake tasted like pure sugar water. Did i do something wrong? also, the package says a 4gram serving is 15cals/4g carb and 4g sugar... this equates to 225cals/60carb/60sugar in addition to the 120cal from the protein... seems a bit much to me? After not eating sweets like this dextrose stuff in like 9 months it really is making me nautious.
 
How big are your scoops? 60g is a fair bit..too much, really, for you, given previous info you've shared. I use 36g (two TBS, measuring spoon TBS, not cutlery). That plus the 2g'ish of carbs in your ON makes for a tolerable drink and a reasonable protein:carb ratio.


I agree that it's much too sweet...and has a strange taste that I find mildly unpleasant. All you can do is suck it up, really. Of all the combos I've tried, and I've tried quite a few, ON Whey + Dextrose is probably the most tolerable, if you're going for a 20g:40g protein:carb WO drink.

You'll slowly adjust to it.
 
I just use the scoop that comes on my ON Whey and put 1 scoop of protein and 1 scoop of dextrose. Seems to be a decent ratio and tastes great!
 
i used the scoop from the ON Whey also, their serving is like 30grams... Im not to sure i want to continue using dex bc its seriously makin me sick right now. I dont know if its bc i havent had that kinda sweet in a while or bc i used to much but im definitley not feelin to great afterwards.

Same here, it is pretty sweet, but not in a bad way...

Go with one scoop of dextrose and one scoop of whey maybe, and see how you like it...
 
I measure by weight, not volume, as density affects the measure.

Since a scoop of whey is 24g protein, you should measure 48g dex. However, you may want to pick up some maltodextrin since it's pretty much not sweet, but has the same characteristics of dextrose and measure out some malt and dex to temper the sweetness.
 
Cynic is correct. the scoop for protein is by volume, not by weight.

the scoop is 70cc, which holds about 30g of protein powder, which equates to 24g of actual protein. a 70cc scoop, leveled off, is about 45g of dextrose, at least per my kitchen scale.

maltodextrin is like 10% as sweet as table sugar, but it breaks down into two glucose molecules, so its just as good as dextrose for post workout carbs.

another thing: dextrose can stimulate your stomach lining, causing you to feel rather full. malto apparently doesn't do this, or at least not as significantly, so you don't feel like you ate a whole turkey when it was just a 10oz shake.
 
hmm.. i thought dex and malt were different, ive seen recommended a mixture of both, is that prefferable? or doesnt it really matter?
