DCarr10760's Weight loss diary

You might want to look at an Osteopath - not 100 percent of what you're looking but might be closer and sicne many of them can't prescribe medication - they focus more on the body... and getting the body to fix itself.

Good suggestion Mal... a few of the psych students I graduated with who were going to med school wanted to be Osteopath's.

Thanks Sheryl and Mal for the suggestions, I will look into them.

Today has been better. I am 245 this AM so am leaking out the retained water. This week has been good food-wise so far. SWMBO surprised me by bringing home grilled chicken salads last night. This is as close as she gets to cooking. She really does not cook...at all. I do all of it, which works out fine as I get to make what I want and as long as it's healthy she likes it. I love to cook so it's fine.

I do sometimes miss coming home and having dinner taken care of (first wife) but all in all, it's better this way.

Boy, I do meander through the topics...

So I took a walk this AM and felt better than Sunday or Monday. I feel okay now too. I suspect that as I get my fluids further into balance I'll be back to my new self :)

Tonite I will work out on the Lifecycle and tomorrow I'll start lifting weights 4X a week, focusing on compound exercises using dumbells primarily, until I get some more equipment.

I used to lift in HS and in College and was a member of a Gym for periods of time since so I am not entirely new to it. I've done a great deal of reading on form and have been practicing squatting w/o weight. I'll take it really slow. I certainly don't want to hurt myself and I know I'll not be gaining muscle, just hoping to strengthen and not lose much muscle along with the fat (and water).

I had planned to start Monday, but have been going to bed right after getting Davy to bed.

So thanks for all of your input Sheryl, Mal and Jenna! Have a great day!!

Today I got on the Scale and lost another pound!

I was good about eating yesterday. I had do go grocery shopping last night (I do the grocery shopping) after Davy went to bed and as I was leaving, SWMBO asked me to pick up some ice cream!

So I did and when I got home I checked on FitDay and "Rich Chocolate Ice Cream" was listed at about 350 calories per cup serving. I checked the package on the Ben & Jerrys "Half Baked" for the calorie count and it said 270 calories, so cool! I'll have some!

But then I saw that it was for a half-cup serving! So the pint of ice cream has 1080 calories!!!! I used to eat a whole pint several times a week!!! No wonder I was a blimp!

So I passed on the ice cream quietly. Now, SWMBO looks great, very curvie and fit, but she would like to lose 15 lbs. I know she wouldn't be happy with herself for eating a pint of ice cream, particularly when I wasn't indulging myself. But I (wisely) decided that it's not up to me to comment on her eating. She got halfway through and decided it was too much and tossed the rest. She admonished me, telling me not to buy her ice cream any more, "even if I beg" I told her that she can be very persuasive and under those conditions I would cave in and hijack a Schwan's truck. So we had a good laugh.

Not eating ice cream is a huge accomplishment for me. One check in the victory column for meeee!

Congrats on being another 1lb down... the melting has begun again! :D

WTG on not eating that ice cream. It is one of my huge weaknesses. I've been avoiding it like the plague... I can only imagine how much ice cream lended itself to weight gain.

Wow, i've missed lots of topics on here the last few days. As to the blood pressure issue, I wouldn't take that lightly. My father in law had a similar prob with his, and he ended up dying of a heart attack at age 64. Of course he was loathe to go to the doc and wasn't on any meds that i know of. Have you had a full cardiac workup? I mean EKG and angiogram? That will detect any blockages. I don't want to scare you, just want you to be safe, ya know?

Personally, I believe in a healthy mix of alternative medicine and standard. I cannot stand docs who push pills as the only way. So I applaud your efforts to find a doc who doesn't want to drug you up..lol.

Regarding the water retention...are you drinking enough water? Not sure if you know that lack of hydration causes water retention because the body feels it needs to conserve what it has bc it's not getting enough. So that might help you lose more of it, unless you are properly hydrated.:beerchug: Hey, beer has water in it..lol.

That was funny about the ice cream and SWMBO. What does that acronym stand for? I forget. Yeah, my fav Ben & Jerry's is the peanut butter cup which has about 1300 calories in one pint. And no wonder I was a tubbo, either, since I could easily (and did) eat an entire pint in one sitting. Yikes!

SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed

I'm good with the heart issues, no blockage, normal EKG, great Cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar levels. It is why it is so vexing about the BP, because besides being over weight I am very healthy.

It is interesting about the water retention being able to be caused by dehydration. I have heard that. It's probably the case. I'll make a more conscious effort to drink more water and see.

Thanks!

Hey David... been a while.

Congrats on the lb loss!

I've never been an ice cream fan. Put some chocolate in front of me though and kiss it good bye. Or a steak sandwich. Or cheesecake. Or buffalo wings.

A hell, anything but cake and ice cream.

SWMBO! HA! I love that! I was always wondering, but just never thought to ask. Congrats with losing yet another pound, mister man. Let us know if you find someone who can explain your BP issues. I'm really curious and hell, if it works, I may have to tell my dad about it. Wishing you and the family a great weekend, doll.

That is hilarious! I wish I could get my H to start thinking that way!!

I hear you on the steak! (my very favorite thing).

Every couple of years I go to a big trade show in Chicago. While there my Sales Manager and I always eat at the Chicago Chop House. They serve a 64oz Porterhouse steak (about 4-inches thick, I dont know how they cook it but it's perfect everytime). We split one, but in my BFD (Big Fat Days) 32 oz (my share) was never enough.

So this last time we got them to cut us a 96 oz. We finished it. Talk about gluttony! 48 oz of porterhouse steak according to FitDay has roughly a full day's worth of calories.

Or about as many as a quart of Ben and Jerrys ice cream.

Never ceases to amaze me how much crap I shovelled into my mouth over the years. It's shameful :(

But that was then...this is now. :newangel:

Thanks for stopping by!

This morning I weighed 242 so I am essentially at the weight I was when I left for vacation two weeks ago and stopped taking the blood pressure medication. In my planning I would've liked to be in the mid 230's buy now, but the schedule is arbitrary and the goal unchanged.

People at work and who see me regularly are beginning to notice that I've lost weight. The attention is nice. Of course these same people have seen me up and down the scale like a sine wave, so it's nothing new, more like a touchstone.

I'm also now comfortably in size 40 pants (I was in 46 at the beginning). So that's good. When I get into 38 (or lower!) I'll need to buy pants!

It's all good!

I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Hey hey handsome,

good to hear you're back to 242. Damn... you must have been pissing like a mad man after coming back from vacation. hahaaa! (I've been having a bout myself on this end... been pissing non stop since 10pm.. bah!) As for work, hey at least people are noticing. For some reason, the bastards on this end ask, "Did you lose like 10 lbs?" 10 lbs??? Motherfacker please! Pffft!

Wow... from a 46 to a 40 already? Niiicccceeee.... I personally think you should just buy a better belt even after you've lost more weight and keep wearing the 40s. Reason being, then people will REALLY notice you've lost a lot of weight. haha! jk Wishing you and the family a great weekend!

Of course I might've had one or twelve as part of a business function, but only because it was socially appropriate!

FUNNY!!!!

When I get back I think I'll take Valerie's advice and begin resistance training. I have to shake off the lethargy.

YOU BETTER!!!:D

She who must be obeyed! Ah I need a man who would actually consider that!
Glad you came so far as to get in the 40 pants--I'm certain you'll see 38 soon, health permitting. Have a great weekend!

I'm having a nice, quiet weekend.

Yesterday was a neighborhood tag/yard/garage sale day and SWMBO had a table set up to get rid of a few things, so I had Davy-duty. He and I just hung around and played 'til noon!

It was really fun! I was on the floor doing stretching exercises and anytime I am on the floor it is time to play "pigpile" so we wrastled a bit with him laughing so hard it must hurt.

Last night I went and picked up my middle son, he's a High School Junior, honor student and BMOC. So I get to spend the day with him! I haven't heard much from the college boy (my oldest). His mother (my ex) says she met him for dinner last week and he's doing alright. Keeping himself clean and eating enough. It's funny how the expectations for your male children don't go far beyond pure survival when they leave home.

Anyway, eating is good, today is rest day except for a final swim in the pool at the In-Laws after some yard work. It is supposed to be a lovely day here in Connecticut, I hope it's also fine wherever you are and that you get out and enjoy it!

Hi All!

It was a really nice weekend. My middle son and I got to spend some time together, which doesn't happen too often these days.

We drove around and visited friends and family and I gave him his first driving lesson. He did very well, only stalled the car once or eleven times but eventually got the hang of it pretty well. He gets his permit soon. Seem like yesterday I was putting his Tyco Little Tot's car together, soon I'll be handing him my keys...

I felt better on my walk/run this AM than I have in a good long time, so I think the worst is over from my recent medical blip and hopefully I can look forward to clear sailing hereafter.

Tonite I "formally" start weightlifting. I downloaded a routine using dumbells and a flat (utility) bench. The routine is 4-times a week MTRF and it breaks down to:

M- Chest and Triceps
T- Legs
R- Shoulders and Traps
F- Back and Biceps

3 or 4 exercises each workout, very basic. I know it is not ideal, but I think it is sufficient until I am more properly equipped to do compound lifts.

For my birthday (two weeks) I will buy a power rack and an Olympic weight set and for Xmas, SWMBO and I are going to give each other a very nice elliptical trainer, so we should be pretty well set up, gym-wise.

As I go I am sure I will be pestering Steve for advice. But for now I will take it slow. In the past I did train with weights, so am not a complete newbie, but it's been 5 years since I've done any and my "formal training" was back when the the heaviest thing Steve was lifting was a teething biscuit. So I have had a long time to develop bad habits.

My main objective at the beginning is to get myself into the regular habit of doing it, work on the basics and not hurt myself.

Fine tuning the routine for optimal results will come in time.

Happy Monday all!

David

Hey dollface,

Hmmm.... I have to say, that's going to be a nicely set up home gym once it's up and running. Ummm can I live with you? hahaa Good on you for starting up a weight training program. Jeeez... I can picture it now.... you're going to be wearing a 32 pants in no time. Ummm can you youtube yourself doing squats...? Men... squats... yowsers.... :D A man with great quads/ hamstrings is such a beautiful thing to behold... awww..... :beating:

PS... The Steve with a teething biscuit comment had my busting ass! Good stuff! lol Wishing you and the family a wonderful week, David. :hug2:

Good morning folks!

Well today was the big weigh-in and I have a new low! 240! So being in the 230's is in sight )Yay!

Yesterday was a great day diet and exercise-wise. I ate about 1900 cals (so a bit low) but I did my morning walk/run, then I walked for 45 minutes at lunch (hadn't been planning to but it was a stress management thing )

Then last night I started weight training and did the chest/tricep routine and 24 mins on the lifecyle. I drank lots o water and besides some naughty posts I was as good a boy as I get.

Just waiting for the delayed onset muscle soreness to overtake me!

I'm a bit fatigued this AM, but I feel good.

David C

Wow.... 240 already? You're so close to the 230s, doll! Fantastic! Good on you for starting up your weight training also. :D

Hmmm..... a 45 min walk during lunch? Everything okay on that end? If you need to rant, take out some aggression and whatnot, by all means.... I'm a willing rear.. I mean ear! HA! ;) jk... But really.. if you need to rant, let a girl know, David. :hug2: Hoping you day goes well, hun.
