DCarr10760's Weight loss diary

Thanks Sheryl!

But after hearing how you laid-out the Amazon kick boxer girl, I'm gonna be real careful around you! Haha jk.

No, it was just whacko customers, I try not to let it get to me, but sometimes it still does. After my walk I called them up and straightened it all out.

Thanks, you're sweet!

David

Hey David,

Congrats on hitting the new low at weigh-in ! That is great! I look forward to the day I'm down there too.
Sounds like you got your home gym pretty well planned out. I wish I had the spare room to do that. It was all I could do to put my exercise bike somewhere out of the way *L*
Good luck with those weights!

NICE!!!
240! Good show old chap! "Teething biscuit"!!! LOL!!!

Yes I'm very glad to see you hit those weights. I was hitting the weights yesterday and two trainer guys I've known from my gym for years were saying, "There goes Valerie--she lifts HEAVY." I guess cause I was sticking 25 lbers on the bench press (95 lbs total with the bar). You'll enjoy the weights. I started to get lazy and not like them as much, so I amped my once a week to 3xs a week and I started to like it the more I did it. But I do total body every time. Do what you like, and maybe you'll go further and do more. Just watch it with the deadlifts--poor Tom effed up his back a few times with em. I gotta be careful, too, actually.

Have a great day being 240! :D

Hi Val!

Yeah I will be careful, I'm not typically an overly cautious person, I just dive in. But I know (finally) that if I get injured it will be a setback and I don't want that. So at the beginning I'm going slow with light weights and focusing on good form. The important thing is that I am doing it regularly. As I make it part of my life I can fine tune things, lift heavier etc.

So last night I did Legs. I have big, strong legs and leg work is easy for me, all except lunges, I have to work on those with no weight 'til I get the form down and feel comfortable with them. I also need to find some clips of folks doing them correctly. I felt really awkward doing them.

The delayed onset muscle soreness was just 18 hours. Yesterday afternoon I felt the Chest/triceps work I did on Monday evening. Not bad, just a general tightness across my chest. Sort of pleasant, really, particularly when I stretch.

I suppose it is one benefit of working on specific muscle groups as opposed to a full body workout...limit the agony, eh?

Eating's been good...getting thirsty for the celebratory Guinness when I break into the 230's! Should be soon.

I wonder if it is possible for me to have ONE beer? Dunno, never tried it!

Yah... I'm a sweet one or at least I have some of you thinking that anyways.. ha! jk Just wanted to drop in to wish you a beautiful hump day.... oh and may all the retarded customers leave you alone for the remainder of the week. :D

PS Good job with the leg/ lowerbody work. If anything,
that's my favorite part to work on also. :D

Good Morning Everybody!

Got back from my hobble. Yep the muscles are pretty sore from the weightlifting! Not as bad as times in the past because I am going easy, but I really underestimated how out of condition I am. The nice thing about muscle soreness is that it is soon gone. Stretching and massage are the prescriptions.

I'm still 240, I actually expected a small gain with the muscular swelling (I expected to retain more fluid) but I am holding steady. My next official weigh-in isn't until Monday I hope to be in the 230's then.

Based on Steve's recommendation I am switching to a full body routine 3X a week.

Have a great day all!

David C

Morning David :). That'll be so nice for you to hit the 230's. I'm sure you can just taste it! Hope the soreness goes away quickly..mine usually sets in 2 days later for some reason so today I just feel mildly sore. Have a great one :).

Morning doll,

I'm sure you'll be in the 230s by next week no question in mind. As for the 3xs a week... if you keep that up, you'll zoom right past the 230s and into the 220s. :D Good luck with it. Have a great day. :hug2:

Yes it's been a long time since I have been that low in weight, probably 5 years or more. I'll actually have to buy clothes, as I'm dropping below my normal trading range ;)!

I was hoping to avoid soreness altogether, silly me. I went real light in weight and tried to focus on form, but like I said earlier I really didn't realize just how out of condition I am.

I'm glad you are back to the weights too. I really believe it's the way to lose the last bit, that and HIIT, neither of which I am currently fit enough to really do yet, but I'm workin' on it!

Hope your soreness goes away soon too!

David

220's! From your mouth to God's ear! I'm hoping to be there by Thanksgiving. If I can avoid eating the entire harvest that day and gaining all my weight back in one swell foop, I'll be doing well.

I'd love to be in the 2-teens by :santa:

But there's no real timetable, when I get there I get there!

Have a good'n!

David

Gmorning!

Today is a rest day (except that I will lift weights tonight). I needed the rest. The muscle soreness is better, my triceps were the worst and still are tight but the legs, and chest are minimal now. Tonight is my first full body workout ala Steve.

Not budging from 240 yet. Last night was a re-feed (I like that term so much more than pig-out!) I was up to about 2700 calories, but considering all of the exercise I still had a healthy deficit.

I've been following along in the discussions about plateaus or adaptations with Blancita and Steve and it does seem to be the case with me. I have been in the 240's now for well over a month and yet if you believe the calculators including both diet and exercise, I have a daily deficit of well over 1500 calories a day and so should be losing 3 lbs a week. But the weight loss has slowed well beyond that.

So I assume my bodies adapted to it's present workload and energy intake level. So I'll shake it up a bit. Just not sure how.

I don't want to go to crazy with the weights until I'm a bit more conditioned. So any ideas?

David C

Well, you could try resistence training exercising like push ups, squats, lunges, plank position, and so on, before you add weight. That could work!

240 should budge in time. Bodies seem to "set" themselves for a while at arbitrary numbers before anything happens...except weight gain...lol!

I hope you shake the plateau!~
Have a great weekend!

Hi Val!

Yep, that's what I'm going to do. Real light weights or just bodyweight (Umm which ain't so light) like you say, until I'm in better condition.

It's real humbling be so out of shape. I have been some degree of overweight all of my life, but I was always big and strong. Kinda burly, a "big bear type." Years would go by and I'd do nothing (exercise-wise) and I'd hop back into it and in no time I'd be strong again.

Not now though. I feel my weight more- I feel weak in the arms, shoulders and back...it's really weird. I suppose it's the approach toward 50...good thing I am tending to it now, eh?

Anyway, I jogged two miles of my four mile circuit and felt good doing it. So I AM making progress.

The muscle soreness is gone, I am off for the weekend (weightlifting) and will continue on with Steve's workout on Monday.

Best,

David

Wow David, talk about age and muscle soreness. I used to get a lot of soreness, but now I have this added stiffness that seems to be age-related or something. Or maybe just cuz its been about 3 months since I've worked with the weights. But shiat! My lower back is just freezing in place, in agony if I move it at all sometimes. And my knees are hurting as well. All from a few days in the gym. I am so damn rickety all of a sudden!

Morning David,
good job with the 2 miles jogged. :D That's awesome. As for feeling weak at the moment, you're right... at least you're doing something about it now and I'm sure you'll start getting even stronger as weeks pass by. :hug2: Wishing you and the family a wonderful weekend, hun.

Hi ya!

Thanks so much for your warm welcome and best wishes. :hug2:

Keep up the great work! :)

I answered yer questions in my diary..:) *waves*

Good Morning Everyone!

Sheryl- I love the new Avatar! (I'm a sucker for black and white photography and big, beautiful eyes ;))

Blancita- This soreness really has been the pits. It has been a week now and it finally has eased to an annoyance. I've now worked out 4 times and it hasn't gotten worse, so it is good news.

Stacy- Thanks for dropping by!

Diary Entry:

I wasn't going to weigh myself, I really wasn't, until tomorrow but I did and I am 238!!!!!!! I blinked, shook my head to make sure I was seeing right, and got off the scale, checked zero, yup zero. I made sure that it was on level terrain...yup. So I got back on and I was still 238!!!! Wahooo!

I sailed through my walk.

I updated my ticker. I'll do the rest of my stats later in another post.

Have a great Sunday all!

David C
