DCarr10760's Weight loss diary

Thanks Sona,

I'm feeling better now. I just need to be careful about taking in enough fluids and probably the least amount of alcohol the better.

So this AM I was up earlier than usual (4:45 instead of 5:00) so I did ten minutes of stretching before my walk/jog. Boy, did that make a difference! I felt stronger and less stiff and was able to jog more (over a mile!)

I've always been under the impression that if I walked first, before jogging the walking would stretch me out, but from now on I will do the stretching exercises daily.

Still weighed 246 this AM...Kinda sucks thinking I was 244 while I was really just dehydrated. Oh well, I know I'm not fatter, just now I have a healthy fluid level.

Have a great day all, I'll be reading through the diaries to catch up!

David C

Morning handsome,

good on you for waking up that early to start your exercise. I'm an early riser as well... 5:15am and I'm out and about. As for stretching prior to working out, oh yah... it definitely makes a HUGE difference.... my favorite is hip rolls. You spread your feet about hip width apart, place your hands on the sides of your hips and just roll them clockwise and counter slowly... you feel your hips pop into place.. good stuff. haha I do have a question for you.. when you go jogging, do your knees or even ankles hurt a bit after? Jeez I'm finding it difficult to do so at my current weight and was just wondering if you have any tips. It could possibly be due to playing softball all those damn years... gone fack up my knee.. :( Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, doll!

-Sheryl

PS Glad to hear you and Davy are feeling much better. :hug2:

Hi David

Every time I get dehydrated it seems like my body hangs onto every drop I drink for like a week afterwards. Like it's trying to compensate in case there's a major drought.

Don't let the scale get you down
I think I'm gonna throw mine in the creek!

Roughly 3900 calories if I am remembering everything. But no dessert! That's where I drew the line (6 or seven pints of beer and a couple of whiskeys okay, but carrot cake? Noooooo)

Been there! Know what you mean! Makes up for the 1000 calories day, no sweat! :D

I passed out unconscious and was there for some amount of time (minutes) before SWMBO found me!!

:eek2: Whooo man take care of yourself, ok? Do you need a salt lick? Hee hee hee. Salt licks are funny. Not to make light of the situation too much!

I was actually pretty scared, my Mom had stroke after stroke leading up to her death, and that's the first thing I thought of

Ok as salt has been thought of as one of the culprits to stroke, nevermind about the salt lick.

Feel better soon! Yes waxing sucks, I tried a few times and stopped!

Hi to all who've posted here recently! Thanks for all of your support!

Sheryl, I haven't had problems with my knees, but I do have some problems with my ankles. One thing is your shoes, running/jogging is hard on the joints so good shock absorbing shoes with good support are important, depending on how much you run, you should change them (I understand) every 3 - 6 months.

SWMBO can't run anymore, between skiing and running (her two favorite sports) she has damaged both knees and has had surgery on both. So some people just have structural weaknesses there.

I actually am trying not to run too much, I am still 50 lbs overweight and I don't want to put too much stress on my joints until I am lighter. But running is one of my motivations.

I think I wrote this in an earlier post but I have a memory of running as a young child before the manure hit the windmill and I got fat (age 7). I remember running full out and fast and it being effortless, it was like flying.

It is a sensory memory that I hold tight to as a goal. When I run like that, I feel joy. It is short lived these days, given the shape I am in, as the joy quickly caves into the reality of the panting, burning, aching water buffalo that I've become, but I still feel the same joy, even if only for a couple of seconds.

It is sort of like having a foot race with a fat painful demon who overtakes me. I need to keep at it until I can outdistance him. But I fear he will always be chasing me as long as I live...

Anyway, today is a rest day. I've felt tired since my problem Saturday, I guess I'll rest up and race again tomorrow.

Get Sean to massage those knees and ankles for you. It'll help- or you can massage them yourself (while they're up near your ears!)

I need to get a good pair of running shoes, just to have around for the odd occasion when I do find myself outside on a walk without the baby where I can actually jog or do HIIT. Thanks for the reminder :).

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: At least she can get them up there!! haha. Ah...one of the benefits of losing weight is increased flexibility and better S-E-X! :jump: :jump:

Today I weighed 244...again!

After my "spell" and a liter of IV saline and drinking lots of fluids my weight had shot up to 248 but stabilized to 246. This AM, fully hydrated, I weighed 244 so I am back to my ticker weight.

I know the extra weight was just fluid and I hadn't gained fat, but I was still bummed. I try not to obsess about the scale number, but it is indicative of progress and while I don't need to lose weight quickly I do like steadily. A pound or two a week, ideally.

I'm not walking this AM (I'll be doing a lot of walking today at the ball park- I'm going to see the Yanks vs. the Sox). It is likely not going to be an exemplary diet day either. But I will be as good as the choices available to me permit.

Yesterday my oldest Son came for lunch. He starts College on Friday and needed to upgrade his computer and I had one of the guys in Engineering do it for me (and show him how to do it in the future). It was nice to see him. He's grown into quite a man.

Haven't seen the middle boy lately, he just got a job bagging groceries and has been working a lot. I'll get a phone call from him soon because getting a cell phone is top on his list of things to get with his regular paycheck.

They do grow up!

Have a great day all!

David C.

Hey David,

I'm glad to see your feeling better and the scale has gone back down. The scale can be a real bummer... even if the number is beyond our control its great that you try and not obsess over it.

Are you a Yanks or a Sox fan... I'm a Hard Core Yanks fan Living in Boston:rotflmao:

I hope you have a wonderful day at the game:hug2: :hug2:

Jenna,

I'm a Yanks fan, but SWMBO and all the in-laws are Sox Fans, so to preserve familial content, I maintain a low profile. But I let loose at the park!

It was a fun game! I had a great time.

My eating for the day could've been way worse. We went to the Yankee Cafe for Pastrami Sandwiches, and Pea Soup and a beer.

A couple more beers at the park and a couple of handfuls of pistachios. Then one more beer for the train ride home. Then a light dinner.

Not bad considering, I plugged all the numbers into FitDay and got 2625, just over the high end of target.

Now an easy day at the office and a three day weekend!

Have a great day all!

David

Hey David,
Good job at the Ballpark . I would have been tempted by the typical park dogs if it had been me *L*
Glad your weight has leveled back out for you after your spell. Maybe you'll be back on track now.
Take care
Paul

Hahaha! I am a Yankee hater..lol. I'm from Michigan, so Tigers all the way, of course. And nothing made me happier then when the Tigers beat the Yankees in the playoffs last year when everyone and their dog thought that we would get our asses whupped. Nah nah:jump: Actually, I don't give a rat's ass about baseball, I just like to see the cocky Yankee bastards lose...lmao..:D Ooops! I guess I just got myself banned from your diary! lol:pumpkin:

Hey Paul!

I managed to resist the Dogs. It was blistering up on the upper deck so liquid refreshment was my downfall, but I did okay!

BB,

No, you are not banned! All are welcome here!

Detroit is a great team! Why I remember like it was yesterday when they won the world series... I was 8-years old in 1968. It was exciting because the Tigers hadn't won one since 1945! After the win in '68 they followed it up in only 16 short years, winning again in '84!!!

Sure, since then they've had a dry spell for nearly a quarter of a century, but that can happen to any team, right?

I mean, even the Yankees in their 25 World Series wins (or is it 26! who can keep it straight?) went as many as 17 years without the title, but I suppose winning 3, 4 and 5 years in a row other times takes the sting out of it... ;)

Heck I don't even mind if Sox Fans post in my diary! I may not get a chance to answer right away, but hell they're patient folks! :)

(who isn't as big a fan as this post makes me sound, but I know how to look up stats!)

Congratulations on being at your ticker weight!! SO am I :) No worrying, losing weight takes time and ain't as steady as it seems like it should be. Wow a son starting college! Bet you're proud, eh?

Hope all is well in the family dynamics. Have a great weekend! Drink lots of water and don't for get the electrolytes! :p

Curvie-G!

Yep, one in college, one in High School and one in diapers!

Funny thing happened at work. One of the Electrical Engineers who is a marathon runner was feeling bad and stayed home sick the day I was at the ballpark.

On Friday I asked him what had happened and he said he was stomach sick a few days earlier and didn't really feel like eating or drinking and now he was feeling light-headed and very tired. This is exactly my situation! Of course I went further and fainted due to dehydration.

So he went to his Doctor (same practice as mine) and is having a battery of tests including West Nile Virus! Usually with that there is headache and muscle pain.

I haven't had much in the way of headaches but I'll be interested in the outcome of his tests. If it is WNV there's nothing to do but let it run its course like any virus.

If it's not one thing, it's another...

David

WTF?!?!?!

West Nile!

Oh geez I am so happy I live in Cali. I'm dealing with caterpillars in trees, hanging down and getting on me when I run by...

Well I hope you don't have it!

You can call me Valerie if you like :) Valerie comes from "valor" and means Power and Strength, two qualities I strive for.

Thanks Valerie! The name suits you!

I feel better every day, so hopefully, whatever it is, is going.

This AM I did my walk, but I jogged the whole way (about three and a half miles). My goal is to be able to run this distance or more at least 3 - 4 times a week.

Eventually I need to start lifting weights. I figure by my birthday in October. I don't want to join a gym though. I want to get all the equipment to do it here. I already have dumbbells in 5 lb. increments up to 50 lbs. so I think I'll buy a bench and a power rack and an Olympic weight set. I figure that's all I'll need.

Anyway, I feel good about my walk this AM and I expect to have lost at least 1 lb on my weigh-in on Tuesday.

Hahaha! Nice slam. Quite frankly I am still smarting from Michigan's humiliating loss yesterday to give a rat's behind about the Tigers right now...lol. But ya know what? Even though they lost yesterday, they're still the winningest team in college football. We won't talk about the Lions!!! hahaha:D

Hope you don't have WNV!!

Today is my rest day (which I need because I am a bit sore from yesterday).

We went to the In-Laws for some lawn work and dinner. It was nice. I had a long swim in the pool. I logged it into FitDay under Swimming "leisurely" (because they didn't have "Wallowing") and I was surprised at how big a calorie burner it is!

Maybe it's because it's so kind to the joints, or because you are not aware of sweating or your core temperature rising while swimming, but it never seems like it's that hard work.

Anyway, it was fun. Davy loves "Gaga and Papa" and it's so cute, after dinner we always have a cup of coffee and then we leave. Last night when he heard the coffee brewing he shook his head and said, no coffee! no bye-bye!! Little guy is really putting things together!

So I have been feeling better, my light-headedness is no longer constant and my extreme fatigue is only in the evening. So if there is something wrong with me, it seems to be clearing up.

Next week I am on vacation WOO HOOO! This year it's the Jersey Shore, we rented a Cottage. I've never been there and the only thing I've ever heard about it is the Billy Joel song.

A week without work and work around the house will be most welcome. Watching the sunrise on the beach is one of my favorite things (apart from "horseback riding"). Weather is supposed to be iffy, but it'll be fine even if it rains.

Anyway, official weigh-in is tomorrow AM I will have a weight loss (I peeked)

I hope you all have a nice labor day!

David C

David,
For goodness' sake, WEIGHT TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! It will help protect your joints from high impact cardio like running. And if you are able to swim, run, and weight train, I think you'll enjoy a better body--I'm all for cross training and such.

Cute kid! Grows up fast, right?

Sounds like a lovely vacation, hope you enjoy the cottage!
