Dave's Weightloss journal

Well Its been a few years now of struggling to lose weight. At my highest point I weight 395 and I currently weigh 299-302 pounds( scale fluxuates). Recently weight just doesn't want to come off, in the past 6 months or so I've only dropped about 30 pounds.

The main reason I'm starting this journal is because when you have to tell other people about your weight losses and gains there is a bit more of incentive to try harder. I wish to attempt something that will be extremely hard to accomplish and I'm sure some people will tell me not to try. I have decided to attempt a water fast, I'm not exactly how long of one since I don't know how well I can control my hunger for an extended period of time.

I would love to hear any comments or opinions positive or negative.

Day 1. Well I just finished my first day and it hasn't been too bad don't really feel hungry yet but I'm sure it will get much harder as I go.

Hi Dave :waving:

Congrats on your weight loss thus far!

What exactly are your goals in doing a water-fast? Are you considering it out of a feeling of desperation (nothing else is working)?

From my understanding, water-fasts are utilized as an opportunity for our digestive organs to heal and make more efficient use of the nutrients in the foods that we eat. They are not sought out as a means of weight loss.

Hi, Dave.

First of all, well done for getting to where you are from that peak of 395.

Yes, I found keeping a journal here to be quite useful - there is a real accountability factor that can be found if you want. I always say that honesty begins with honesty to strangers. If you have to honestly post what you have been doing here, for all to see, it really does make you think twice about eating that entire pizza (just an example - I'm not saying you eat entire pizzas - although I used to, regularly).

So, what have you been doing so far to achive your goals? What are your plans to get the rest of the way there?

Fasting - I have no opinions on this aside from it being something I'm pretty sure I would never do. :)

I wish you success in reaching your goals. If there is anythign I can do to help, just ask.

Well most of my weight loss has been from just eating less, especially avoiding fast food such as burger king. At times I've gone months with out fast food. I also found eating a lot of fruit and veggies help. That reminds me, A year or two ago for about a week I ate 4-5 pounds of fruit salad a day and dropped about 10 pounds that week. I ate a little on the side but 90% of my diet was fruit. Maybe I should give that another try.

well on day 2 of trying a water fast I cheated a bit with some strawberries and a salad. I just don't know how people can do it! But if the scale is correct i'm down 4 pounds from the 2 day attempt. Its not that I was hungry so much as my brain kept telling me eat this every time I saw food. My belly didn't feel hungry but I was having a constant battle in my head. The fact that I work with food probably doesn't help either. I'll probably throw some fruit in today to keep me from losing my mind and eating a carton of ice cream or something:p

Well, day 3 went extremely poorly! I put posting it off till today (this is the end of day 4 now i think) On day 3 I ended up eating 4 glazed cinnamon rolls at once! Unfortunately some reason I felt I had to eat 4 cinnamon rolls0-o.

Now as for day 4 well I'm still on day for this is the end of it since im going to bed in an hour! I would like to note I work 10pm-7am so my days are a bit different than most of you. I didn't eat today yes I know most people will tell me that's bad and unhealthy. But there is some research that shows fasting for 3-5 day periods a few tunes a year actually improves over all health. I'm determined to go at least 5 days straight with out eating and this time I actually think I'll be able to do it.

I weighed 395.6 pounds today after work so I'm down about 5-6 pounds down in the last few days! Though I should weigh a bit less when I wake up.
