Darth Pooh, Sith Lord of the Honey Pot

Heh, I thought writing about this stuff was interesting so I figured I would give it a shot for reflection purposes.

Stats: 27 year old male, live in Philadelphia. 5'11" and some, but not quite 6'. Original weight: 274 - 279 flucuated. --- Goal: 200-205.

My whole process started in October of 06, a few days before my birthday really. Some of my students were actually calling me some pretty funny stuff... fat being one of them, but I realized DAMN, I am fat. I do have a hot dog package neck... I also felt really shitty too. Health wise it wasn't good, I was winded by three flights of stairs at school, couldn't sit out in 90 degree weather without sweating like I just ran 3 miles (hypertension, BP was about 140/90).

I joined L.A. Weightloss... and it worked for me. It isn't like I was doing this to get a girlfriend. I had been dating my girlfriend at the time for about six months, she liked me the way I was (she is a fit person, watches what she eats, works out, gorgeous), I didn't even tell her I was doing this. Just called her up after I went to the center and told her. While I was doing LA, I learned about portion control and what the body needs to run not what it wants. LBS started coming off and I felt good... I did hit a few plateaus and I think for the most part I over came them. I however felt that I cheated more than I should because certain things were ALWAYS a NO-NO on the plan. I recently (about March or April) decided that calories in vs calories out was a much better situation for me. It allowed for me to make my perogies (not bad really, 3 is only 180 calories), and other favorites that I used to make.

At this point I've lost about the same amount from LA as CAL IN vs. CAL OUT. I do want to get rid of the remaining flab I have. It is some loose skin with my remaining guy. I am at 222 now, which means I have about 15-20 for my goal. I do feel like I am in another plateau, or maybe its just going slower than I want! My original pant size was 46... now I can wear some 36's but mainly a 38. Shirt size XXL to XL, but I am eyeing up some L's soon because the XL's seem too baggy in some brands.

Problem is, I still see all this flab and I want to start toning up but I think it might add too much weight. I do lift, but I lift light weights at high reps... I am about the same build as my friend who weighs 207, but I am definitely more solid than he is and that's where I attribute the weight difference (man that kid has a huge head... and a fat face :) ). I am trying to introduce HIIT into my routine. Did it yesterday on my elliptical and the first 4-5 reps weren't that bad actually. Now, the last five were brutal, sweat was pouring and the heart was def pounding! I didn't feel like I wanted to throw up like everyone said, so I don't know if I did it correctly. I certainly did give it my all on the 20 second bursts... I do have a higher endurance threshold for shit like that though. Always have... even as a fat guy. I would get people saying things like "Wow, you can move for a big doode!". I guess I am asking for people's input on HIIT and if I should hold off on my GOAL weight before I start lifting a bit heavier for tone.

Crucial areas I want gone are my man tits and belly. I obviously know I can't pick and choose what areas get what weightloss but thats what I want to work on.

A daily workout for me is usually switched up from power walking / partial jogging (in retrospect not enough to help with my metabolism) followed by crunches, circuit cardio training (works very well), bike riding, elliptical, light weight high reps... sometimes its a combination of two of those things. I have stepped it up to be more serious and regimented but I do anywhere from 30-60 minutes of these things a day around 4-5 days a week.

Well, thats it for this rant... if I think of anything else, you know where to find it.

Haha nice diary name :D I like both Star Wars and Winnie the Pooh :D

Congrats on the weight loss so far! You seem to know what you're doing, except for the HIIT thing as you said. I don't know anything about that but I'm sure someone will reply soon to help. :)

Just wanted to say good luck!

Thanks Mal... yes, my girlfriend loves me because I am so geeky. Who knew geek was chic. Apparently, my screen name has been used on the internet by many others even though I've had this one since I was about 15 or so (12 years). I take it as flattery...

I hope to get a lot of feedback here (especially TRUTHFUL) because I don't really wanna be told I am doing great as so much as that want to be told what I am doing wrong or what I could improve upon. Its also just a great friggin way to get my thoughts out so I can see what I am thinking from a different perspective.

I hate dumping more on him, but Steve is a good go -to guy if you want some clear levelheaded advice (his life is getting really busy these days so he might not have a lot of time, but will help if he can) you also could try a post int he harsh truth section where some of the resident experts hang out - they all don't find their way into the diary section...

yeah I saw he was the GOTO guy... but I didn't want to overwhelm him. I figure if he wanted to help me he would. I see a lot of other people are also willing, so I will take it from where I can get it... :)

Today I ate my usual so far: Apple sauce (lite, with splenda), Kashi Bar (Choco Caramel), and lunch will be my lean cusine which tops off at about 270 calories. All and all, for the day, I am at 500 calories. I go to about 1800 since my RMR is around 2300 without my exercise/light movement. I would like to get a more accurate poll of what my RMR one of these days with a polar watch and strap (used to own one but I can't find my strap).

Welcome here, and I have to say I love your name too!! I might have to 'borrow' that if I ever join another message board. LOL!

Congratulations on you weight loss so far, you're doing really well. If you're interested in reading, there's already a lot of info buried in various diaries (Steve's being one of them).

Thanks, the name is all yours... I think I will check out Steve's stuff later on tonight.

So in addition to my morning foods I ate another Kashi bar (160) and some sun chips (50 calories). I had about 8 - 10 ounces of chicken for dinner so lets go high with calories (400 calories) with 4 perogies (240 calories) and steamed string beans with no-calorie spray (70 calories). That would make it 920 + 500 = 1420 calories. I am getting some sugar free / fat free ice cream that is 120 calories for a cup. This brings me up to 1540 for the day.

Am I eating enough calories? I didn't work out today because I usually rest on Wednesdays and Sundays. I have been super hungry today (I did HIIT for the first time yesterday, I hope it's related).

Ok, so I haven't been adding in my calories daily for my vitamins like my multivitamin (which doesn't have any listed), my omega 3,6,9 pill (take two and its something like 45 calories), and then my CLA (amino acids for lean muscle mass, about 45 calories as well). So I need to tack on like 100 calories a day alone for those. Then I chew sugar less gum a lot (maybe about 10 pieces a day which is about 50 calories, however I think the chewing cancels the intake, not so sure about that).

Breakfast (8 am)- Apple sauce and Kashi Bar = 220 calories + 100 calories for the pills = 320 for the morning.

Lunch (11 am) will be a lean cusine (270) = 590 for the school day so far.

Snack (300 pm) another Kashi (150) = 740.

Not sure about dinner, might make tacos, Lean ground beef (94%, maybe 350 calories), shells which aren't horrible maybe 60 calories per shell (120), I usually eat two. Lettuce, tomato, FF sour cream is say about 100 calories all together = 570 - 670 (I like to figure sometimes a bit higher if I under estimated) - High ball figure is about 1410 calories for the day.

Again, I am not sure if my body needs more or less... I may have more sf ff ice cream tonight (about 120 calories which is 1530 for the day). My RMR is supposedly 2300 calories for my age, height and weight. It doesnt take into account my muscle mass (which I do have under the flab, my legs are rock solid and arms look a bit cut, can def see I have chest muscles). I am probably going to do HIIT again today on my elliptical... with low weight high reps training on my triceps, shoulders, and back. Then some abs... havent done those since Monday...

So my dinner was Tacos... YUM. The meat was about 250 - 275, shells were 130, condiments with cheese was about 150. So about 555 altogether for dinner, plus i will have my ice cream too, which brings me to 1450 for the day.

Does anyone think this is TOO low? I did everything today except ABS, I might do them tonight, HIIT kicked my ASS, I so wanted to throw up, I did it with the 5 min pre and 5 min post and only did about 8 "sets" of the high intensity part. So in theory I burnt at least 1500 calories today! Hopefully I can get some insight into whether this is a "good" setup.

Oh yeah, I am feeling good too! I went on a job interview today. Did really well! Same type of kids but better pay... it means I will have to pack everything up and move on.

Hola,

Breakfast was the same Kashi + apple sauce = 225

Lunch was wheat bagel + smoked salmon with lettuce and cucumber = 600 calories

So I am at 925 (included supplements)... Allows for about 700 calories at dinner, I am thinking roasted chicken, string beans and rice. It is probably not going to get to 700 but I can eat another kashi after I am done cardio. Just got done weights (biceps, chest and abs) went a little heavier but not by much, I feel good. About to get some cardio going (elliptical trainer, 30 mins with medium intensity)... thought I'd stop and put my thoughts down.

Well, I suck. I had my kashi which brought me to 1075, dinner was 3/4's of a rotissire chicken, easily 600 calories on its own, plus tater tots (300 cals) and steam string beans (about 75 cals) which puts me at 2050 for the day. Wow, I mean, I went overboard in a big way. I was really hungry though! HIIT has made me super hungry lately, is this possible?! When doing my cardio the elliptical readout said I did about 530 calories (I can never believe that). I hope I really didn't over do it... I was really starting to see a movement in the slimming down.

I know you might be getting sick of hearing this, but

BLOODY BRILLIANT DIARY NAME!!!

I was in a somewhat of a foul mood last night and I literally smiled through tears when I saw your diary. Thank you and I look forward to following the diary exploits of Darth Pooh, Sith Lord of the Honey Pot.

Glad it could lift your spirits! EL-OH-EL ;)

As for me... not doing so great. Scale is still at 222 range... hasn't budged at all. I don't know if its my body saying it likes where it is at or not but it is def not moving. I am seeing a TON more definition on my body (obliques are starting to come in, belly is still blah)... so again, at the risk of sounding redundant, I am losing inches but not the LBS. I don't need to be a slave to the scale but I would like to see some movement considering all the hard work I am still doing. On a weirder note, I bought 38's at the store the other week, some shorts and khaki's and now they are too big, like way too big! I can fit a fist longways in between myself and the shorts. I swear they fit when I bought em!

way to go for having to go shopping again :)

seriously, who the hell cares what the scale says when you're getting results like that :) no one but your doctor and you will ever know what that number is - don't stress over it.. you are getting results..

Hey...
You are doing awesome it seems....
keep up the good work
btw: sometimes we stumble and overdo the calorie intake, but don't get down, because tomorrow is always a new day to jump back on the band wagon and move forward in your strength training and weight loss..

best wishes
and crosses finger so scale moves

always

I know its been a while, but I thought I'd like to check in here.

I basically continued doing what I was doing... although about a week ago I brought my calories down to about 1500 a day instead of 1900.

Last weekend, I got on the scale after consistently being 222-225 range and now I am 217. It was an all of a sudden BOOM. So, I think I might have broken my plateau there. I can only hope the trend will continue. Still having some complex issues (still see a big fat guy in the mirror) but I suppose that's something I need to work on outside of weight loss.

Hola.

Long time no post here. I decided to change my goals of 205 to 190. Why? Dunno, got to 205 and realized I could use some more. When I get to 190 I will probably want to do 180 and ETC.

So why am I posting? It usually makes me feel better when I have bad times... I was finally at 205-206 and I had an awful weekend. I mean, whatever I wanted to eat I did, and then some more on top of that. I literally gorged this weekend. It was just bad... so, I somehow manged to tack on 4 lbs! Yup, at 209, now. What a crappy setback. However, I realize what I had done wrong and know it's something I have to deal with. Someone tried to convince me it was water weight. Cute.

Anyways, since I've posted, I am at a size 36 waist now, Size L shirts. Getting some nice definition by using Steve's basic lifts posted here. Gut obviously not going away overnight but its starting to ease up. My man boobs are getting firmer from the Arnold Presses.

I think I just need to post to put down my thoughts and realize while 4lbs is a hurtful gain, I will just need to stick to what I was doing before to get back on track (and I have since Monday really). I have found that I am hungrier than usual, wonder if that is connected to how I ate like an animal this weekend (you don't even want to know how bad... it was just REALLY bad.)

190 is still in my sights. I'd like to be beach worthy by June of 08.

You live in Philly??? Are you shitting me??? That cracks me up :)

Nope, not yet. Its not to say I "can't" go on a beach, because hell I did that at 283 lbs! So, I just don't think it's beach worthy for a guy... it's different for me really. I see other people and don't care, but for my own image... weird to see my rib cage and a flabby stomach area.

Yep, philly... does that crack you up or excite you? ;) Remember in Steve's thread I said you live in West Dumpford? duh?
