dang squats!

okay, today when i was doing squats, i found it pretty dang hard to get 95 lbs on my shoulders from the floor(im only a kid : P). My bro had to help me do this and i think it was dangerous; believe it. i dont have a dang power rack and my dad wont buy me one. how can i do squats without risk of injury from this???

build one or use heavy dumbells (for starters). I wouldnt recommend trying to swing the weight up onto your shoulders from the ground.

thanks guys; funny story: my dad insisted for us to build a bench press and bench out of 2 by 4's but i convinced him to buy me one lol! i think it would be okay to try to build a power rack but what materials whould i use? 2 by 4's?

Take a look at this page for plans for a home made squat rack.

And this page has tons of info on how to build everything you need for a home gym.

You might consider what I do, which is doing squats with dumbbells. You just hold them at your side and bring them down on the floor if you can't squat more. I think this should work fine especially if you're not lifting very heavy weight (I'm doing squats with 65 lb dumbbells and this works my legs well enough; will switch to barbells when it gets to the point where my grip can't handle the weight).

ok, sorry mreik
