Cutting?

Hey im going on winter break in a few weeks and i think im going to cut for the month i have off. I have never cut before and i have no idea what to do. Can someone explain it to me? and whati should do

in a nutshell, you eat 10-20% fewer calories than you do for maintenance.
lift heavy weight, lower reps to retain lean muscle.
you'll need to do some cardio...several approaches to this though...either afternoon/evening sessions of short, high intensity cardio, or longer sessions first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and light intensity.
