Yesterday
Yesterday I "ran errands", i.e., went shopping, then made it to Acroyoga class at the Vet's Hall in downtown Santa Cruz. I'd never been to that class, but was my teacher, and pretty much IS my teacher on Mondays at the climbing gym, her and Amy. Anyway, Rohan, Andre, and I (both those guys were in the 2 hour workshop I took months ago, my first Acroyoga class, plus Andre was at the same Yoga retreat as I back in November) were the only ones in the class considered "Intermediates," to my delight

and Paige had Melanie (the other instructor) work with the Newbies, while Paige worked with us. Paige is such a delight--cheery, laughs, sweet, real nice, great teacher, amazing acrobat. A Taurus! LOL!
Anyway, Rohan is like, 6'3" and Andre is shorter than me, but weighs 20 pounds more, so we had some fun

Paige is 130 lbs, but really really REALLY strong--Acroyoga is actually one "sport" where size MATTERS. I'm actually a good size for it; I'm relatively "light" for the most part, so I can fly on most people, but my thick, muscular legs and butt are great for flying people up to 170 lbs I think--maybe more, we'll see. All in all I
learned some acobatics

FUN!
After class Paige said, "Circus Jams is free and lasts until 10:30!"
"What's 'Circus Jams'?"
Circus Jams is every Wednesday night at the Vet's hall in the large room; what it is, is acrobats, Acroyoga enthusiasts, jugglers, Poi throwers, hula hoopers, WHATEVER gather in the room and listen to 's circus type music and do their thang. Last night, Paige had two guests, these very brown, very very strong, professional acrobat men come in and work the aerial silk threads hanging from the ceiling. Paige also did some aerial dancing, and I saw her and her acrobat friends do multiple handstands on top of other people's extended arms
It was fucking amazing.
Meanwhile, I was doing handstands, backbends, and Acroyoga with the other people in the class who stayed after--especially Linda, a 34 year old lady about my size who is a Newbie. We were on the stage part of the room on mats, Paige and her friends were below, and the rest of the floor was full of people juggling and hula hopping.
It was a mild ?? freakshow, baby baby, on the dancefloor ??
I told Linda, "If I told my high school buddies that I spent a Wednesday night with a strange woman flying on my feet in a room full of Circus Freaks I think they'd tell me 'Valerie! I want in on that...'" Linda laughed heartily even though that wasn't very funny, it was just funny because it was True, kinda!
So although I love Mangala's Wed night Yoga class, I think I'll be spending more Wednesdays learning acrobatic things and hanging out with the local circus.
My weight is 142.5 lbs! Goodbye 130s....it was nice knowing you
I was bummed about it this morning, but I cheered myself up because HELLO, I'm healthy and in shape. This is good! So what if I'm not able to venture into the 21-21.9 BMI range? The best I can do is try try again, but I am NOT feeling dieting lately......
