Creatine Newbie seeking advice ( and yes I read the sticky)

Hi there. This is my first time on the forums so firstly I'd like to say hello ;)

I'm 17yrs old, 6'2'' and weigh about 158pounds. I have a slim/athletic appearance.

I'm starting to train for a 4day military like camp that I'm going on in 6weeks time. This camp requires you to be at your absolute fittest and unfortunately that is the exact opposite of me!...(though most people mistakenly look at me and think I am fit!)

So I've started an exercise regime that involves running and isometrics...I want to get fit and not bulky. So today I went out and bought USN Creatine X4 ethyl ether tablets. It recommends I take 4 tablets a day for 3000mg (3g I guess) of creatine. But I was wondering if I really needed that much or if I could possibly change my dose to 3 tablets a day?...I'm just wondering if this change will render the creatine useless or if it will be alright. My goal is to increase my overall fitness levels and I dont want to take in too much creatine because I dont want my body to get so used to it that when I go away and am not allowed to take the supplements I'll crash on the first day!!

Oh and I wont be "loading" as I want my body to accept the creatine nice and easily I guess if that makes any cents.

Thanks.

well the problem is you bought ethyl ester, not monohydrate.

Monohydrate has been researched for about 20 years now, so we know a lot about it.

Ethyl ester is newer and hasn't had as many valid studies done, and its a lot more expensive...so I've never messed with it.

Having said that, you've bought it already, and research is positive on it. Stick with the 3grams per day, once a day, preferably post-workout. No need to load. You should get saturation in about 3 weeks on 3grams a day (that's the rule of thumb for monohydrate, and by all accounts ethyl ester should be the same if not 'better' depending on who's research you go by)

Monohydrate was gonna be too much work it the drinking of the horrid tasting stuff.

And is 3grams a day necessary (4 tablets for me) or can I take 2.25g (3 tablets)...For the past 3 days I've been taking 3 tablets and I seem to have ever so slightly increased in recovery but that could just be a placebo effect.

And you said post work out - why? ...most sites are saying it should be taken first thing on an empty stomach.

Thanks for your reply.

Honestly it doesn't matter one bit when you take it...just that you take it consistently/daily.
I say 'post work out' because you're likely already drinking a protein shake, probably some carbs too, so just toss in the creatine.

I'm very confused by your statement about monohydrate's taste...its tasteless. 100% pure, Creapure processed monohydrate is flavorless and odorless. It IS a little gritty, even when micronized, but if you've just suspended it in your shaker cup, you shouldn't really notice the grit.

Perhaps you've only tried an inferior (or flavored?) creatine monohydrate...

How much you take is your decision. Remember that creatine works by saturating the muscle so that you have the ability to perform more reps before hitting fatigue at the cellular level. Simply by taking in 'extra' beyond what the body creates on its own (via eating red meat, etc) you're slowly increasing levels towards saturation.
Loading phases achieve saturation more quickly, but excess is excreted, and it tends to have the stomach ache side-effect too.
