Counting down to surgery

Discovering Me

Hi! I am new to this, however I see it as a valuable tool for me in my weight loss journey. I am having gastric bypass surgery in four days and am a little nervous. Don't get me wrong I am also very excited about what my future holds for me and am looking forward to the challenges and pay offs. I am 27 years old and have been over weight since I was a child. As a child, I developed poor eating habits and that continued until high school. As a young adult I became educated and chose healthier eating habits, however it only helped me to maintain. I also would become frustrated when I did not see results. I would workout at the gym 5 days a week and not loose any weight. I know I was toning and my clothes fit me differently, but I still needed to see the numbers on the scale going down. When I was 23 my mother passed away after a couragious 13 year battle with cancer. Between my mother's death and fracturing my back in a car accident ( and some poor choices I made) I put on 40 lbs in 7 years. My doctors had talked to me for the past 5 years about considering weight loss surgery, but I was not ready. I knew I had to completely change my life in order to be successful. This summer was a turning point for me when I realized that I have been consistent in my good habits for the past year or so and that it was really a change not just a temporary fix. I also completed a 5k with my sister. She jogged it, however I was able to walk with a little jogging until the finish line. It was a major accomplishment for me. I am looking forward to jogging the entire 5k next year with my sister beside me not in front of me! I have had a hard time telling people what I am having done out of fear of the judgement. Don't get me wrong most people I have told have been very supportive, but I was surprised that one of my best friends has distanced herself since I told her the news. Maybe she just needs time to process. I am very lucky despite my weight I am healthy and do not take any medications. At my highest I weighed 272lbs and I currently weigh 252lbs (hoping that number goes down a little as I complete the pre-surgery diet).

Hope it all goes well and that the surgery kick starts a whole lifestyle change for you!
