I hit 149lbs!!!! Yeaaaaaaa!!! Mindfulness eating is KEY!
149 lbs!!!!! I did it!!!!!! I finally made my 149lbs goal!!!!!! It's been over 6 years that I have been at the weight of 149lbs. Let me tell you, it feels
GOOD!!!
!
I had a little moment for myself yesterday, when I stepped on the scale expecting to see the scale working against me, and then WHALA down, 4.8 lbs since last Friday!!!! I swear, the heavens opened up & swallowed me right then & there!!! I jumped, I twirled, I screamed, I cried, and I celebrated. Celebrated with WATER!!!
I'm very excited for the choices I make now. I think what is becoming a HUGE aspect of my success, is
MINDFULNESS EATING. I am practicing the art of being midful & being 'present' in the moment of actually eating. What that means, is....really listening to my chews, absorbing 23 bites, savoring each bite, putting down my fork inbetween, taking a breath, holding a period of 3 seconds or so before picking up the fork again.
It sounds SO SIMPLE, but if it was so simple then there wouldn't be people that are overweight. There wouldn't be people that leave a restaurant feeling 'stuffed'. The
truth is that most people don't know when to
STOP. We get overwhelmed by the amount of food in front of us. We get overwhelmed by the cost $$ of food and not wasting our money & we allow ourselves to forget that
The First Bite Tastes the SAME as the Last bite! Go figure right? I mean, we all sure act like it just might taste
different so we try and assure that it won't by FINISHING the entire plate, when we damn well were satisfied, maybe even full, a long time ago!
Naturally, in the United States,
portion sizes are OUT OF CONTROL. We always try & get a bang for our buck & then 'SUPER SIZE' comes along. Then 'ALL YOU CAN EAT' comes along. Really? Do we
need that? No. We don't. Also, being the average thrifty consumer, can we really AVOID the good deal? Often times, no. We are naturally inclined to go for the good deal. The only problem is that
we are getting the short end of the stick by using our bodies as a STORAGE tank. Yes, I mean storage tank. Storage of all that crap food. Storage of an overload of 'good food', too.
There is such a thing as
OVER EATING in any type of food. No one said, that 'stuffing oneself' with healthy food is good either. That's not being mindful of your body telling you to
STOP, I'm satisfied. Yet, how many of us can really hear the DING? The little feeling that tells you, "Ahh... that was good, YET the rest of the place looks delicious." It's not easy to
STOP there. BUTTTTTTTT, if you want to succeed, you MUST stop there. I think often what we forget to realize is that the food, isn't going to disappear. It will be there in left overs, it will be there tomorrow, it will be there for the rest of our lives. Why must we feel inclined to SHOVEL IT ALL IN, right now????
It's
absurd!! I know, because I've done it for years on end in my life.

iggy: Now, I do know the difference of being satiated and being full and or stuffed. It's a practice, 5 times a day. Each time you will get better, and more accurate if you really try.
So here are some TIPS TO MINDFULNESS EATING:
-
Use smaller plates to serve yourself on. It's important to become aware that our minds will register feeling abundant with food on the plate as long as it covers the most part of it. So do you really want to cover a plate that is 12'' inches round, or do you want to cover one that is 6" round? The answer is 6". You want to feel like you are getting the most, yet, really be allowing yourself less, while still enjoying. It is about tricking the mind & body to follow in the footsteps of the new path you are laying out for yourself.
-
If you are going out to a restaurant, ask the waiter to pre-package half the meal, before bringing it to you, so that you automatically have left overs and aren't inclined to eat the entire portion. Yes, resaurants do this for you. Often times, people aren't ready to ask the waiter to do things
differently than what's on the menu out of fear that they won't. I'm here to remind you, that
YOU ARE PAYING FOR YOUR MEAL. The people at that place of business are there to
serve your wants and desires. If it's your desire to have the sauces on the side, or to have 1/2 of it pre packaged, then SO BE IT. You have ask, though. No one can read your mind.
-
Once your food arrives, BREATHE before picking up that fork. We all get so excited when our food gets there, that automatically, the fork goes into the hand, and most often, never comes down until that food is GONE.

Not anymore!! Stop, breathe - and then pick up the fork. Look down at your food & appreciate the textures, appreciate the fact that food is an energy source, a source of fuel, and yes, for many of us, a source of COMFORT. If we know that we are inclined to food as 'comfort', then help yourself out some & start to learn to appreciate pauses in between each time you take another bite. Put the fork down, BREATHE, 1-3 times, then go back for more. You are giving your body the time to process, and to become full. Naturally, it takes the stomach-mind connection about 20 mins. to register that it's satisfied, so eat SLOW. Give it time while you still have food on the plate to leave.
-
Chew your food 23 times. How many times do we just, bite bite, swallow? Hmm.... most often. Lately, I've become really aware of the people around me, as I'm becoming aware of myself, and you can literally count the number of times people around you chew & then proceed to swallow and bite again. It's easy to forget that by nature, humans, are vegetarians. Look at our teeth structure.... we are not made to be a carnivore, yet, we have evolved into a society that filled with the mentality that we have always been. Wrong. Even though, we do eat meats & chickens doesn't mean that we have the proper amino acids in our stomach to efficiently digest what we are eating. We just don't. So since we do eat meats, chicken, fish, and so on... we must remind ourselves, that
Nature's Blender is in our mouth! It all starts there. Chewing is a process of 'breaking down' the foods you have just consumed, before it goes into the intestinal tract. We have to help our bodies, and the biggest thing we can do is
chew our food. Sounds simple, but really, do you do it to the point of the food being mashed like a baby's? ...So just do it. Chew.
-
Appreciate the meal you have. Have you ever noticed, that often times, overweight people or even people in general are sitting there in front of their meal, eating, and already planning for the
next meal? It's absurd. I know I've done it. You have food in front of you
NOW. Enjoy that first. Stop thinking about what's coming next. Breath, appreciate that you are filling your body with an energetic meal NOW. Forget about later. Appreciate what's in front of you now. How do you do that? By savoring the texture of each bite in your mouth. The splash of flavors. Listening to the crunch of the food. Smelling each bite. Looking at how amazing it looks. Appreciating all aspects of it.
These things sound simple to do, yes, but what's simple to do, is simple to NOT do as well. It's that plain. So give yourself the gift of change, and start TODAY. Your next meal is your next opportunity to get it right. It is a practice. A daily practice. We can do it!!!
