Couch Potato ---> Healthy & Fit Bride

I debated for a while if I should start a diary or not. I think that it'll be good motivation, so I decided to start one. = )

I'm a 22 year old female and am 5'5" tall. Earlier this month I got on the scale and it showed "200". I told myself that I would NEVER weigh 200 lbs. I also recently got engaged and will be getting married in June 2012. My mom wants to go dress shopping so badly, but at that weight, I can't even see myself getting anywhere near a bridal salon.

I wasn't ever really skinny but I was always a healthy weight. Once I was about seventeen, I started to eat fast foods and not exercise. My weight just spun out of control. But I am getting ready to start my life with my best friend and he deserves the best of me. I can't give him that being unhealthy and overweight.

I cut out all fast foods, soda, anything fried, juices, everything bad. I have been eating fruits and vegetables for snacks instead. I do enjoy eating them but it is hard going from candy and soda to fruits. Unfortunately I don't care for meat or salads so my food diet needs to be fixed a bit. I have to take protein and calcium supplements already because I don't eat meat and I can't have milk. So I need to find some way to have a balanced diet.

Anyways, I have been going to the gym every day. Some days it’s for the whole hour, some 30 minutes and some only 15. I work full time and go to school full time so I try to squeeze in what I can. But my school is over in a couple of weeks so there is no reason I can't go for at least an hour a day.

I went from 200 to 189 this month and hopefully can stay on the same track. I have engagement pictures to be taken in mid May so my goal is to be around 175 by then. Then hopefully by September I will be down closer to my goal of 125 - 140.

Hopefully I can do this. All of you are such a motivation and keep me going every day. = )

I'm in a very similar boat to you age wise but we can balance school & weight loss! We can do this! I have personally really enjoyed the diary for the support & the accountability.

I also love how you put it when you said "But I am getting ready to start my life with my best friend and he deserves the best of me. I can't give him that being unhealthy and overweight." I have a very similar thought with my boyfriend & the thought of a wedding definitely is inspiring to get the weight off!

Yeah, I was hoping it would help with accountability as well. I think one of the main reasons I want to lose weight is that we barely have any pictures together. I have to take like 30 pictures from 10 angles to get one that you can't tell how big I am. I really want some pictures of us that I can be comfortable with.

Also, good luck with your weight loss as well. We can do it!! = )

Also, one motivation I am using is that every ten pounds I am giving myself a treat. Not food or candy, but something I really want or want to do.

For example, I lost 10 lbs this month so tomorrow I am going to get contacts again that I have been wanting for a while.

So I have to work my butt off to get my hair dyed, my nose repierced, etc. = D

It is great that you are taking the steps to get your weight back to the healthy range. Great job with the weight loss so far.

Like you, I'm not a fan of meat - but I will eat it. I'll have chicken breast a couple times a week and red meat very rarely. I don't care for tofu either - luckily I love dairy and do well with the reduced/no fat versions. It does get challenging, and I do resort to adding in a protein drink daily.

I like your goals - I've done something similar - every 10 lbs (albeit a very slow loss for me), I get myself something I really want - my next one will probably be a facial.

Keep up the great work - you'll meet your goal before you know it - just stick with it.

Thanks for your support and good luck to you as well!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dairy. But I'm lactose intolerant so I can't have any without getting sick. = (

I'm a little sad that my workout got cut short today. I only got in 25 minutes. I have severe arachnophobia and a spider decided to land on my machine at the gym. I'm still all shaky and couldn't finish my workout...I'm such a scaredy cat. = /

I will do my best to make up for it tomorrow. And I went to the dog park today and did more running that my dog. So maybe that will help compensate for it. = P

Got a little discouraged because I gained two pounds, but I managed to lose them back. Hopefully I stop yo-yoing until I have lost a good amount more. I managed to pull 45 minutes at the gym today. I am trying to study for my finals next week so I don't know how much gym time I can get in for a couple of weeks.

I went grocery shopping today and didn't buy anything bad! I'm so proud of myself, haha. = )

Anyways, I'm still at 189, so I need to kick it up a notch. = P

I hope all of you are doing well!! = D

Worked out for 50 minutes yesterday. Slowly working up to that hour, haha. My fiance had Wendy's last night and it took every ouce of will power not to order nugets and fries! But I prevailed and feel great about it. = )

Down another pound, so I'm 188 now. I am going to do my best to get in an hour tonight. I can't wait until two weeks from now when my finals are done. I can spend more time at the gym and not studying. = )

Good job with working out and losing more weight! It's really nice you are giving yourself a lot of time to get to your goals! Your dress is going to look amazing on you :)

Thank you very much! =)
I would love to be going for an hour to an hour and a half every day to the gym. But I figure that 30 minutes is better than not going at all. Also, I have noticed that with eating healthier I have sooo much more energy. = )

I think what you are doing is great. YOu've given yourself a good amount of time also to achieve your goal. I hope you can do it and i hope you can make it last longer than the wedding too.

I think giving up all those soda, sweet etc things is a good idea. I am doing it too.

Although you are lactose intolerant you should be able to eat yoghurt. I think it neutralises the lactose or something.

Without milk and dairy you have to watch your calcium levels.

Have you got a dietician. It sounds like you could use one given all the normal things you can't eat.

I mean for your diet to be sustainable in the long term, you need to find ways to make your food taste good and not become boring. Boring food is a killer.

What did you used to eat when you ate fast food?

I would suggest looking at lots of legumes and dried bean type foods and recipes. Felafels are delicous. Hummus could be a source of fat but you wouldn't want to overdose on it. YOu can make chickpea curries or stews. Lentil soup. Rice and vegetable bakes. Pasta bakes. Just avoid the cheese. Asian food should be good. What about fish? Can you eat that? Spaghetti marinara is a favourite of mine - made with garlic, white, wine, parsley, seafood, olive oil. Some recipes use a tomato based sauce instead. Nuts if you can control the amount. I can't so i don't eat them.

I really hope you can achieve your goals.

Well I am very boring with my food to begin with. I ate fast food because it was convenient, not because I really liked it. I am perfectly fine with sandwiches, soup, fruit and vegetables, haha.

I didn't go to the gym yesterday, I'm a little disapointed in myself. I started studying for my finals and the next thing I know it's like 12:00am. I will make up for it today though. Just one more week of finals and I can have more gym time. I am thinking of going and getting a new bike and start riding that. I really enjoy bike riding and it'll be fun exercise that I can do each day along with the gym.

I think I went a little over on calories yesterday, but not too bad. I won't let one day of slipping up on calories and gym ruin the progress I've made! = )

Thank you very much =)

I only got in 40 minutes today. I have such a bad sore throat. No other symptoms though, which is odd. But a sore throat is my downfall, it's the one thing that kills me pain and annoyance wise. I need to get up to that one our mark and stay there! I can do it! = D

I got the rest of my cold this morning, that sore throat led up to a lot more crap. I am just going to do some light working out for the next couple of days but nothing crazy. I am sad I have to slow down, but I know going to the gym for an hour while you are sick can't be good for you.

Today I am finally feeling a decent amount better. I think I will go to the gym for at least 30 today. Hopefully this cold is over by next week!
