Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

What helps me (when I go out to eat and do bring a doggy bag) is keep the meat/sauce/flavor for rice&veggies or a salad and throw whatever won´t/didn´t survive well in the bin. I don´t like to throw away food but it doesn´t help anyone if I overeat either. Good job on all that working out!

Wow, that's an awesome workout! Overdoing it every now and then is fine... I also have some crazy days. I just do something else the next day (so I use other muscle groups), and/or take it easy the next day.

Btw I also love asperagus! Looking forward to when they are in season again here in the Netherlands (in about 5 weeks). I don't think it's bad to eat a lot of them, they are quite healthy.

What a workout! You must have slept like a corpse last night, probably a little wobbly this morning, too.

I wish I liked asparagus, but I just can't stand it.

@Sunflower: It's really nice. I love how it feels to be completely worn out physically. It makes me appreciate sleep and time sitting still even more.

@LaMa: Unfortunately, I'd just be throwing away half the lunch on the regular. I think I just need to not eat there except in rare cases.

@Tri: Nope, not bad to eat extra asparagus at all. But it did mean that I had to find a different veggie to take for lunch today.

@LJ: I did not sleep like a corpse, actually. Well, I did until about 4 am when one of my cats decided to run around and yell for an hour and a half.
___________

More exhaustion today guys. Went and did zumba, and then did a hip hop class at my new place. Normally I try not to double during the week like that, but I think I'm going to have to if I want to do this hip hop class and still be able to dance with that specific zumba instructor. Both only happen on Monday night. But, that means it's 10:44 pm and I'm just now halfway through dinner, still have to shower, and do some meal prep for tomorrow. Lord, kill me now. For real though, both classes were worth the late night.

Food today:
Breakfast - Greek yogurt and pineapple - 295 calories
Lunch - chicken stroganoff, carrot sticks, and grapes - 740 calories
Dinner - chicken tortilla soup - 578 calories
Snack - little piece of cheesecake - 93 calories
Total - 1706 calories

Proud of myself over the cheesecake. It was something left in the break room at work. Let me tell you something right now: I'm living in one of the richest counties in America and people who bring food into the break room here aren't playing around. It's always good quality food. But! I let myself have just a little piece. Enough to taste it, but not add 350 calories worth of cheesecake to my day.

@cate: Is there anywhere close to you where you could try some classes if you wanted? A lot of gyms over here are like $15-$20/month and offer a pretty decent selection.
@Lama: Yeah, I'm proud of myself there. I'm one of those people who has a really hard time passing up free food left in the break room. Just taking a bite was a good compromise.
@LJ: Yup, it was pretty good. Dancing generally makes me happy.
__________

There's slightly less positivity today. Work was ok, but I felt hungry all day even though I ate plenty of food. And I was not feeling zumba at all today. I know it's mostly because I didn't get good sleep the last two nights in a row and I went to class tired and hungry. Stacked on top of that was the fact that I didn't get my usual spot. Generally I don't care so much because whoever takes it is usually trying hard and putting in work, but that was not the case today. There are these two girls who come and literally look at their phones the whole class and march in place. It is indescribably rude to both the instructor and everyone else. They run into people and people run into them because they aren't moving or paying attention. Well, they were in my spot today and it just got all over me. I'm sitting here like, "WHY DO YOU EVEN COME!!!!!!" Oh well, it's not a big deal. Just have to make sure to get good sleep tonight and try to make tomorrow better.

Breakfast - kale and bacon frittata - 364 calories
Lunch - salmon patty sandwich, a pickle, and carrot sticks - 545 calories
Dinner - pulled pork BBQ with coleslaw - 728 calories
Snack - grapes - 144 calories
Total - 1781 calories

Kind of meh on food today. The grapes were a last minute addition because my willpower is weak tonight. I generally try to stay between 1500-1700 calories and they put me over some. I still would have been under 1700 if I have just eaten slightly fewer grapes. I know I'm still at a deficit, which is good, but I also feel kind of like I cheated.

Last-minute grapes are SO much better than last-minute chocolate! And lazy people getting in the way of people who want to be where they are and are putting in work are indeed incredibly rude. Nice for them that they get to tell themselves they can eat that extra celery stick because they "worked out" but it´s not fair on people who would actually enjoy the unit.

Those two rude girls are pissing ME off, and I wasn't even there! I can't stand that kind of rudeness, it's like going to the movies to talk with your friend. Why bother??

TO echo LaMa, good call going to grapes instead of chocolate.

Your food is lovely healthy and delicious Cory. Do you do all your cooking from scratch?

Those girls sound like bitches. I just said the C word outloud when I read what you wrote about them and my husband shouted at me. Horrible shrews.

@LaMa: That's very true. I could have eaten a bunch of chocolate or something.
@LJ: I don't even know what possesses them. Really? You can put the phone down for an hour to do zumba?
@Sunflower: I generally do make everything from scratch, even going so far as my BBQ sauce and coleslaw dressing. Every now and then I'll even make bread and pasta. It's cheaper and I have more control when I cook vs. buying more convenient food.
____________

I'm a little disappointed today. I was supposed to lift, but I twisted my knee a little when I tripped on a curb today. It's not hugely painful. It just feels a little unstable. If it were a lighter week in my cycle I maybe would have gone ahead and lifted, but it's the heaviest week and I'm supposed to lift the most weight that I ever have before. I actually went so far as to go to the gym and warm up, did a few squats with the unloaded bar, and then decided I didn't feel comfortable with the way it felt and went home. :[

Breakfast - overnight oats - 471 calories
Lunch - chicken tortilla soup, carrot sticks, and pineapple - 678 calories
Dinner - Moe's burrito and chips - 1216 calories
Total - 2365 calories

Ok, I know dinner was huge, but I decided to make today my cheat day for the week. I think I overestimated on dinner a little bit because they didn't give me as many chips as they usually do. Gotta be honest, I'm really considering having a couple pieces of chocolate too, but I'm undecided. I think I'm right about at maintenance and a couple pieces of chocolate would put me a couple hundred calories over. I'd be willing to take a walk for an hour to offset the chocolate, but I really think I should just cool it so my knee can rest and maybe I can get back to it tomorrow.

Hey Cory
I read on here that you are an aerospace person. My son is at the United States Naval Academy and is about to declare aeronaghtical engineering as his major.

That's exciting! I love aerospace engineering. I hope he likes it too, especially being at a naval academy. There's a lot of great potential there.

I actually went so far as to go to the gym and warm up, did a few squats with the unloaded bar, and then decided I didn't feel comfortable with the way it felt and went home.
Good decision. Also: well done going and trying instead of staying home eating chocolate instead!

Perfect choice. How's your knee feeling this morning?
