I love your info about grapefruit being in season now, I didn't know that. I love picking up these little factoids. Anyway, all of your meals sound so tasty. What were your main achievements in 2013?

Looks like you are off to a great start!

I used to be a huge pop drinker - love my Coke! I have gotten MUCH better. For starters I haven't brought it into the house in a while (until New Years...now I have 2-12 cases of Coke and 2-12 of Sprite - GAH!). I think I have had 1 so far this year, but there is one tempting me in the Fridge. Maybe later after I drink a bunch of water because I'm exhausted and could use the energy for later. But honestly, I find my cravings aren't really there anymore. I drink it at movies, and the odd time we get fast food simply because it's habit and the juice they serve isn't exactly great for you with all the sugar anyways so might as well get the Coke that I love (and no Pepsi is not the same but it will do if needed LOL). I think if you cut pop except for birthdays/parties - over time the cravings will disappear almost completely. You can do it!

gossipgirlfan: To answer your question, I managed to drop about 20 lbs. My ticker doesn't show it, but it hasn't been updated in a while. I'm planning to update it this weekend. I'm also in the best shape of my life right now and I've drastically altered how I think about food. Basically, I laid good groundwork in 2013 and now I need to follow through and refine in 2014.

icychic: I am also a coke lover. I'm from a southern state and it's a huge cultural thing. Coke, sweet tea, and red kool aid. Unfortunately, none of those things are good for you. It's been really hard to reduce that stuff, especially when I see everyone else drinking it.

jen: Thanks! Glad to be back. I've really missed the support here.

Ok, so today went pretty well. I stuck to my food plan. I didn't exercise, but I am having the most ridiculous time getting rid of my cough. I'm also in the middle of painting my cabinets, which is kind of an ordeal. Hopefully I'll finish that up this weekend, get rid of my cough, and be back at the gym by Monday.

Hi Cory! I'm really happy that you found success while you were away. I always fear the worst when someone leaves. I am trying to switch to only drinking water, unsweet tea, and black coffee. I really want to get away from sweeteners both natural and artificial.

^Icy's exercise challenge. We are almost done with the 1st week, but she has encouraged people to join late. It's a 3x a week goal and it's very flexible. I've made my goal daily since that's my focus. You should join us.

I have had success with the black, unsweetened tea, especially at work. HUGE change from the 2-3 tablespoons I was putting into a cup - and not level ones either. Make me sick just thinking about how sweet I liked it! I slowly cut back by putting a little less every few days and eventually said screw it and put none. Sometimes I like to still have some sugar in it, like occasionally with toast when I'm dunking it, or at home once in a while.

And yes, please feel free to join our workout challenge :) And Omega has posted trying to get a possible team one going: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/thre...rty-games-style-challenge?p=881928#post881928

I hope your cough clears up. I had one several months ago that seemed to hang on forever. It's not fun. Hopefully it does though, and you can get back in the gym soon. And congrats on the 20lbs that you took off last year! :)

I love Coke zero and don't think I can ever give that up. Can't you just swap to Coke zero or don't you like the taste?

Hope that cough clears up soon and good luck with the painting!

Wow Cory, it’s been a long long time! Glad to see you back. Stick around this time, will ya?

I’m glad you maintained during the holidays. I gave up and gained, wound up back in the 200’s, but I’m back in onderland again. I know what you mean about not getting healthy snacks for the holidays. I’m now convinced that the holidays are evil! Too many sweets and temptations! Ugh!

I’m happy to see your attitude about laying down good groundwork last year. I think 2014 will be a good year for all of us. We just need to stick with our game plans and remember what we’re doing and why. :)

Mands: There's just nothing like a real coke. :p I think I'd rather just save the thing I really want for special occasions rather than drink something I'll be disappointed with more regularly.

MandyH: I'm glad to be back! And I'm sure you'll lose that holiday weight quickly. A lot of times I think quite a bit of it is water. A lot of holiday food is really salty.

Ok, so this weekend was bad. My kitchen was out of commission because of painting my cabinets, so I couldn't cook anything. My mom and I basically ate out for every meal and I will fully admit I ate all of the giant restaurant portions. My kitchen is so small that we had to push the fridge against the wall in such a way that we couldn't put anything in or take anything out of it, so I couldn't save any leftovers. However, it was an atypical weekend and I won't let it bother me. Now I have a functional kitchen (with banging cabinets) and I can go back to cooking my healthy meals. I also think I will join that challenge icychic and Quercus were talking about.

You should join! We have 10 people for the team challenge and are hoping to start on Saturday so note on the thread that you want to join so you are included in team placement :)
As for my workout challenge - the second week started yesterday but we are always welcoming new people so jump right in!

Glad you aren't being too hard on yourself for the weekend. Hard to eat well with no kitchen and no fridge to save leftovers. Hopefully this week will be better!

Had to post in here real quick. There's a bunch of free food and drinks in the office today. Leftovers from a client meeting. I want to be able to come back later and say that I resisted and didn't have any. I already ate my lunch. I'm not hungry. There's no reason that I should take any of this food.

Like you said, you ate lunch and aren't hungry. No need or reason to go just because it's there. You can do it!

Today was pretty good. I did not eat the free food at work, so my food intake was really good today. I didn't eat breakfast. This is usually a big no-no for me, but I really wasn't hungry at all. I had this Moroccan stew for lunch and then fish with black bean sauce for dinner. I did eat three servings of rice over the course of the day and was sure to measure them out to be sure. I'm serious about watching my starches this year. I also ate a cupcake for dessert, but I don't feel guilty.

No exercise today, but I got a lot done around the house. This included installing a new garbage disposal. Whoever put in the old one didn't ground it, which I wasn't very happy to find. I'll try to go to zumba at the rec center tomorrow. It won't be long until school starts again and I can really pick up my fitness classes. They put the schedule up for this semester and I'm so excited.

Hey! I just wanted to stop by and say great job on all the progress you've made so far! Keep up the amazing work! :) Your meals sound absolutely delicious, by the way.

Sounds like you're doing great! Good job on 20 pounds down!!! I'm gonna check the rec center near me and see if they have any fun classes I can take for little money! I really dislike 'standard' exercise like running or elliptical, and don't really enjoy weight lifting though I know I need to add that in for body composition, but maybe they have a 'funner' weight lifting class too!

Mystic, I'm the same. I abhor running and think lifting weights is boring. Although I did tell my brother I'd try weight lifting this year. He's a power lifter and can't stop talking about how beneficial it would be in conjunction with what I'm already doing. I could use the gym and all its equipment for free at my university, but I've found I enjoy it way more if I shell out the extra $50 for the fitness classes.

Ok, today was good. I had my green smoothie for breakfast, beef and noodles for lunch, and fettuccine with pseudo-alfredo sauce for dinner. Even eating noodles twice, I still only ate one serving at lunch and one at dinner. This is kind of a big deal for me. I never eat one serving of noodles at a time. :p I filled in with LOTS of veggies. My pseudo-alfredo sauce was made with an acorn squash, some parmesan, vinegar, some herbs, and garlic. There was no butter or heavy cream in sight. I added a bit of ricotta cheese to add creaminess, but even with that I came no where close to the calorie bomb regular alfredo would have been. It even tasted pretty close and I don't think it'll tear my stomach up like regular alfredo does (the butter really gets to me). I'll definitely make that again.

I'll try to get in an hour of yoga tonight. I'm actually really disappointed. I had initially planned to go to the rec center and do zumba, but found out they no longer offer it. Now I have all these passes but they don't offer the one class I'm really interested in. So then I thought I'd just walk for an hour, but it's been raining all day so that didn't work. It means I'm really not motivated to do much at this point, but I know the yoga will make me feel good.

Glad to see you’ve had a few good days lately. I hear you on the noodle thing. Pasta is one of my weaknesses. Even just noodles with a little bit of butter is so delicious! I could very easily over do it there. Hope you got some Yoga in and it made you feel better. :)

I saw you posted in my diary so I thought I'd pop in to look at yours.

It seems like you've been doing pretty good, so yeah...keep that shit up. Now, I have to ask - I saw an earlier post where you said you were from the south and that you are a Coke lover. I went to Texas a few years back to visit my cousin and we went out to eat. I asked for a Coke with my meal. The waiter brought me a Dr. Pepper. My cousin said this was normal because, according to him, "people in the south call all soda (or, as I call it, POP) Coke." Is that true? If you want a Mountain Dew do (doo doo, ha) you ask for a Coke? Or how about a Vernors? Do you request a tall glass of Coke? Please answer with a short essay. No less than 200 words, no more than 400. You have 2 hours to respond or I'm taking points off. Ready...set...go...
