Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

Cory don't beat yourself up. I think we all have or will have days like that. I personally feel that we shouldn't deprive ourselves 100% from the foods that we do love the most. In doing that we only end up binging when we do get a taste of them again.

Are you addicted to soda? That was my MAJOR issue. I would drink several cans a day up until I went to bed. I decided enough was enough and stopped drinking it. It was very hard at the beginning, but now it's been so long since I drank it that it just tasts weird to me now. I got a Root Beer a few weeks ago when my mom and I went shopping at the mall and I just couldn't finish it. My advice to is to try to give it up, or at least cut down if that's your main problem. I started by going the work week without having any and then on the weekends I'd treat myself to 1 can both days. It was a gradual process, but I feel much better without it. My skin also looks healthier now that I drink primarily water. :)

Mandy, I don't think I'm addicted to it. I just really wanted somthing sweet yesterday. I don't have any cravings today and managed to muscle through them yesterday. :D

Doing pretty good today. Had ceral for breakfast with some dried cranberries in it and a piece of quiche and an orange for lunch. I'm not sure what will be for dinner today, but I know it won't be anything hugely unhealthy or calorie dense. My foot seems a lot better and might even be better in time for zumba on Tuesday. I did some research and found out that my gait (due to an old back injury) was really unbalanced and so my right foot is much weaker than my left one. Nothing some stretching and careful strengthening shouldn't fix.

Hey you, your food sounds good. I m sure you find something good to eat for dinner too.

Great that your foot seems to be better. :) Awesome.

Had a baaaad lunch today, guys, but I felt like I didn't have another option. Usually I bring something from home, but was running late today. That meant I had to purchase something from the cafeteria at work. I could either get fried chicken and french fries or a salad. I probably stood in front of the salad case for about five minutes, picking through all of them in an attempt to find one that was acceptable. They all looked horrid though. Brown lettuce, green tomatoes, soggy cheese, slimey ham. I passed and went for the 'fresher' fried chicken. Oh well, I'll make it up at dinner tonight and go low cal.

Well you can turn lunch to dinner and dinner to lunch and dessert into dessert and it should all work out for you.

I'm the king of crappy options as of late. I've been eating lunch from a gas station since it's the only option nearby. Lots of jerky, nuts, snack bars, and one pimento cheese gamble...I mean sandwich.

I did the same today...I had pizza and ice cream lol!! But I had vegetable juice for dinner. You can totally make up for it :)

Quercus, that's quite the gamble. Care to try the sushi next time?

And I did make up for it. Had some grilled fish and veggies for dinner. Overall, I'm not feeling too bad about the day. I had wanted to try and go to yoga though, but I had too much homework to do. Maybe next week.

Hey Cory,
You might consider doing some pre-planning on the lunches and stay away from the gas station fare...I've found for me that when I fail to plan (lunches, and what I eat), I plan to fail (eat too much, or high cal, low nutrition foot). It does take some weekend time, but it's so worth it to have something already prepared and ready to take so that I know what I'm going to eat.
Just a thought!
Sarah

Did someone mention sushi?? :gnorsi:

It was a joke about gas station sushi. Trust me. You don't want it. :p

-------------

Did pretty good today. Had a grapefruit for breakfast, taco salad for lunch, and am trying to figure out what to have for dinner. Maybe soup? Or a sandwich....hmm. Just got back from zumba, which was good. It was kind of a test run for my foot. I'm going to stretch it a lot tonight and see if I have any problems tomorrow. If so, I might need to back off the exercise for the time being. I have high hopes though!

I've seen that commercial for gas station sushi... yeah, that would be a bad choice. :)
This is no lie: I once saw a gas station that had "hot dog sushi".... blech.

Good luck with your foot. Take it slow.

Hi Cory! Decided to come poke your thread, as our names are so similar! :p

Joke aside, I am (mildly) interested in zumba. You've been to my thread so you'll know why "mildly" lol. Is it as much fun as people say it is? is it not too hard? I am very reluctant in starting anything that implies a lot of people and fancy movements, because well... I'm not very well-coordinated I suppose and I think I feel ridiculous when I try to do any sort of rhytmic activities. Being tone-deaf doesn't help either lol.

Anyways, hope your foot gets better. Also, being a woman, I can say what all the guys in here probably wanted to say but didn't dare: if that's you in your avatar, omg you're sooo sweet and pretty, girl!

Hi Cory! Sounds like you're going great guns! Congrats on the loss - 5.5lbs is awesome! Don't worry too much about 'slip ups' here and there - you're very motivated and you keep picking yourself up and brushing yourself off :) that's a very strong thing to do!! I have given up many a time because I had one bad meal or one bad day! Keep going and you will see more results!! :D

Thanks for the compliments Corina and reallifeboy. :p

Corina, I really like zumba. You can tailor it to fit your level of fitness. It can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be, so if you're interested in trying it I think you should. I'm not a good dancer or very coordinated either, but I still find it a lot of fun.

Good news with the foot, people. No pain today. Seems that stretching is all I need.

On a different note, I was reflecting on my day yesterday and was really happy with something. I had a big homework assignment to do. In the past, it would have been a choice between zumba or the homework, but getting exercise has become important enough to me that I managed to do both. Pilates is on the schedule for tonight. I'm really looking forward to it because it makes my back feel fantastic. Did pretty good with food today. I had a bowl of cereal and half a grapefruit for breakfast, a baked potato with sour cream and cheese for lunch (heavier than usual but I can afford it today), and dinner tonight will be deer burgers. I love deer. It gives you that red meat feel, but is much much leaner than beef.

I love venison... prefer elk, but it's harder to come by around here
GREAT job getting both the workout AND your homework assignment done. They are both important.

Hey Cory, you are doing great. Studying and exercising - well done! & your food is spot on too!
oh deer burger? where do you get that from ? Sounds interesting! I had it in stew with dumplings yumyumyum!!

I am glad your foot didnt hurt!

I have several relatives and friends who hunt. If they have a particularly good season, sometimes they share the wealth. :p

Man, dinner was fantastic tonight. I was just craving a burger, but I don't feel guilty for eating one because I used lean meat, little mayo, and oven roasted some potatoes instead of eating fries. I will confess I put a strip of bacon on my burger, but that's ok. :D Pilates was also good. I tell you, zumba gets my heart pumping, but pilates leaves me shaking. It's a nice feeling. Also, the instructor tonight incorporated some yoga stuff tonight. Left me feeling limber and pretty relaxed.

Hey Cory!

Thought I'd stop by and check your diary out. Wow, you are awesome! It's really cool to find someone my age. You are doing way cooler things than me though. I work in software...not even half as neat as aerospace engineering. ;)

Your words earlier in your diary on feeling self-conscious really resonated with me. That's part of the reason I started this whole journey. I don't want to have to feel bad about myself anymore. I don't want to be uncomfortable when it is summer and wearing bagging clothes isn't idea. Basically, I understand where you're coming from. Part of me feels like I'm missing out on my 20s because I'm so worried about my weight/health.

Anyways, I just wanted you to know how awesome I think you are already! You are doing fantastic things for yourself. I can't wait to see how far you go!
