Cord's Quest

Hey Cord! You've made amazing progress - 1/2 way to your goal. Don't stress too much about slowing down. You've proven that you can do this ... and you will.

Congrats on the scale purchase. I can't imagine driving into town every week to get weighed - hopefully having the scale will save you some time and money!

Hey there,
Just wanted to drop by and congratulate you on your weightloss!! =) Way to go! Keep up the healthy eating and exersizing!! Gudlluck with the run!!

Jana

Best of luck in your 10K tomorrow!!!!! You will do great!

Wanted to stop by and throw a little encouragement your way! It was sure nice to see that on my page too!!! :) GOOD LUCK!!! :):cheers2:

Thanks everyone for the good wishes!

I did the run this morning. It went quite well, actually.
I didn't know the route in advance and was dismayed to see that the first 5k was mostly uphill, and pretty steep at one point. Ugh. Previously I had only been trying to run on the flat. It was also hot and sunny. Ugh.

For the first 5k I kept to a rigid pace of 100 paces walking followed by 100 paces jogging - even up that steep hill. For the last half I tried to push just a little, and kept my walking sections at 100 paces while increasing the jogs to 150, even 200 paces at times. It was hard to increase the runs but obviously not too hard, since I was able to do it.

I finished the 10k in 1 hour 3 minutes, which greatly pleased me. That's like 6 mph or thereabouts for my average. Woot!

I don't think I would have any trouble getting under an hour the next time I did something like this.

And I raised $140.00 for cancer research, which is pretty cool.

Extra bonus - I bought a commemorative t-shirt in size XL, and it fit! I think I may be down another shirt size.

Thanks again for the support, everyone!

Yeah, he was an inspiration, and 30 years later he still is. And I don't feel all treacly saying that - he was a cool dude.

Trivia: he and I are from the same town, Port Coquitlam, BC. I went to high school with his kid sister Judy, and my older brother went to high school with him, and they played various sports together.

Thanks for the kudos, Kino. You keep up your good work, too!

I just looked through the last few pages of your diary - congratulations on everything you've accomplished thus far! Very inspiring. :)

Feeling pretty good after yesterdays 10k, not too stiff or sore, which is nice. But I am a little tired. I can see it in some of those lifts, which didn't go as well as usual.

Now I have to hang some laundry, make supper for work, pick my daughter up from school, and head off to work.

nice workout! I can't even walk the 10k, so doing the work out afterwards would be out of the question. Cord check out the link I threw in my page too. I know you're a muscle car fan too. You'll be in hot rod heaven...

Congrats on the 10K Cord.

And even more congrats on the raising of the money for the cancer research. IMO is even more important than the run.

Thanks, everyone!

I didn't post much yesterday because I just wasn't in a posting kind of mood. Nothing bad, just didn't want to be on.

Turns out I may have overdone it a little yesterday. Woke up this morning with pain in my left shoulder and upper arm. Hope it goes away by tomorrow.

Today I think I'll go for a walk, take it a little easy.

Friday I go to the doctor for a follow-up on all my x-rays and blood tests. Apparently it is a 'non-urgent' appointment, so I assume that there is nothing critically wrong, although I am worried about the extent of the damage to my knees (I injured my knees repeatedly in my youth, and have had subsequent knee pain ever since).

Took it easy yesterday, just went for a couple of 1/2 hour walks - one by myself and one with my wife (and the dog).

I was experiencing a fair bit of shoulder pain yesterday, but it was gone this morning. Guess it was just DOMS.

Back to the gym this morning.

Attempt chin-up: nose, but couldn't hang
Attempt pull-up: 1/2 way

Bench Press: 40lbs 1x5, 90lbs 1x5, 120lbs 5x5
Inverted Rows: 1x8, 1x5, 1x4, 1x4, 1x3
DB Shoulder Press: 30lbs each (60 total): 5x5
Deadlift: 40lbs 1x5, 130lbs 5x5
Pullovers: 50lbs 5x5
Good Mornings 40lbs 1x5, 60lbs 5x5

I'm on a day off, and don't expect to do much of anything today.
Have to go pick my daughter up from school in 45 min.
