Hi, everyone.

I'm back from the Dave Jacobs Run.

Had a great time, weather was cool but not wet.

Walked the 10k in a respectable 1:32:34 - I'm happy with that.

June 21

It was a big indulgence day today, between the walk and Father's Day. I had a really great time, though, so it's all good.

Breakfast - steelcut oats with hemp seeds and agave nectar

Post-walk goodies - 8 small wedges watermelon, 2 rice krispy squares, 3 chocolate chip cookies - the volunteers were great and took good care of us

Lunch - wrap - ww tortilla, roast beef, tomato, spinach, lt cream cheese

Supper - buffalo burger (ww bun, lettuce, tomato, lt caesar dressing), pasta primavera w/feta, 3 pieces chocolate-chip lemon cake, 1 beer

late night - 4 graham wafers, 1 cup milk

Yeah, it was a lot of calories, but it was a fun, fun day. I did the walk with a buddy of mine, then both our families went to the aboriginal festival in the park, then they came to our place for a bbq. Good times.

Exercise - the aforementioned walk. 10k in 1:32:34, as noted in yesterday's post. I was hoping to do it in 1:40 or less, so it was a good time and I'm quite happy with it.
Maybe by next year I will be able to run it...
 
Okay, the day isn't over yet, but I'm heading to bed soon so I feel confident that I'm not going to do anything to change this before falling asleep.

I fell into a sudden depression after work today - I have yet to figure out why. I had a real serious craving for KFC with a bag of potato chips, a chocolate bar or two, and a large slurpee. This just came out of the blue.
After the afternoon walk with the family, I wasn't feeling well. Incredibly tired and cold. I actually changed into a sweatshirt and track pants, and covered up with a comforter. Weird.

June 22

Breakfast - 6oz steak, 1 slice ww bread w/butter

Lunch and work snacks - 1 apple, 1 orange, 2 bowls cereal w/milk, some nuts (maybe 3oz)

Supper - 3 scrambled eggs, oven fries, mixed frozen vegetables, mug of cocoa, 2 graham wafers, 12 chocolate chips

Post-workout - bowl of cereal w/milk

Exercise:
mid-morning - 30 min fast walk

afternoon - 45 min casual walk with family

evening, after supper - went to the gym:
10 min warmup on treadmill
seated leg press 180lbs 3x12 (tried out the machine; will likely just do squats
in the future)
lat pulldowns 70lbs 3x12
bent-over low cable rows 50lbs 3x12
tricep pressdowns 60lbs 3x12
pec-dec 40lbs 1x12 (felt kinda light) 50lbs 2x12
DB shoulder presses 25lbs 1x12 (felt kinda heavy) 20lbs 2x12
DB bench presses 25lbs 3x12
DB curls 25lbs 2x12, 20lbs 1x12
reverse flys (blue exercise band) 3x12
v-crunch machine 3x12

Feeling pretty tired now, so off to bed. Have to get up at 0600 for work.
 
Your so dedicated... good for you. Doesn't seem like your depriving yourself, either, you have a very healthy approach to fixing your weight. I appreciated the advice on the workout...I decided I would go bike riding with my little sisters, which is something I enjoy doing anyways. I'll talk to you later.

Yeah, I try not to forbid myself anything, except pop, although I have studiously avoided things like potato chips and KFC etc.
Not feeling terribly dedicated at the moment, so thanks for the support.

Been feeling lousy lately. In fact, I feel pretty much like a bag of crap that has been beaten with a stick, and then run over several times.
The junk food cravings are pretty strong, although I have resisted.
I was too tired and bleargh to go workout - felt pretty bad about that.
I have been getitng very cold and tired in the later afternoons for the last couple of days. I get home from work and put on a sweatshirt and track pants and try to lie down for a while. My wife thinks it is because my body doesn't like the 7-3 day shift I have been working right now. I don't know, maybe - I know I don't like getting up at 6:00. When I work 8-4 I feel fine, but the 7-3 shifts run me down. I probably just need more sleep.

So, in short, feeling tired and lousy, want to eat junk food, and feel guilty about both the junk food cravings and the fact that I didn't do any real exercise yesterday.

Breakfast - 6oz steak, 1 slice ww bread w/butter

morning snack - 1 apple

lunch - 2 wraps (ww tortilla, roast beef, spinach, lt caesar dressing)

afternoon snack - 1 orange, 1 cup dry cereal, handful of nuts

later afternoon snack - 1 slice ww bread w/almond butter

supper - ww spaghetti, tomato sauce with meat and vegetables

dessert - small handful of chocolate chips

Exercise - the only exercise I got today was a 30-minute brisk walk during lunch at work. I had wanted to go to the pool in the evening, but my wife had a talk to attend so instead I planned on hitting the heavy bag downstairs. Then I just felt worse and worse until I finally went to bad after putting my daughter to bed and sitting at the computer for far too long.

Bleah.
 
oh don't worry cord my man, i'm sure you'll bounce back! just keep at it. And seriously if you think you can, just treat yourself to One junk food and get it out your system. the last thing you want to do is binge.

Everyone is entitiled to thouse lousy days..... just get back on the horse and keep trucking :)

And sleep is a big factor i think.... maybe get to bed earlier.... but easier said than done... i know sometimes there is just too much to get done in one day to be able to get to bed early!

You eating that you recently posted really does not look too bad....... i think you are being hard on yourself silly!!! :)


anyways, try to hang in there and jsut know that your friends are here and are supporting you!!!!

Hi, Melissa! Nice to meet you.
I have been reading your diary occasionally but I didn't want to intrude. You've broken the ice so I will feel free to stop in and post.

The sleep thing can be hard sometimes. Late in the evening is often my only chance for "me" time, so I tend to stay up too late. Add shiftwork to the mix and I am almost always short of sleep.

As for the food - I'm not feeling too bad about what I have been eating - the problem at the moment is the stuff I want to eat. :)
It's troubling because I haven't really had these kinds of cravings since I started in April. I think it is because I'm feeling down lately - back to the old depression=eating thing. If I start feeling better I hope those cravings will go away.

Well, I sorta gave in to the junk food cravings.

My wife was feeling down, and wanted to go to Boston Pizza for their chocolate explosion cheesecake.
So, we went there for dinner.
I had pizza bread with bolognese dipping sauce. And when my wife ordered the cheesecake for dessert, I ate about 1/3 of it.
It was really, really good. It was also around 300kcal for my portion.
Hopefully I have thereby scratched the junk-food itch.

I do feel a tiny bit guilty, though, mainly because I got no exercise at all yesterday.
I am going to go swim tonight, that should help.

How are you feeling? over the recent back and sickness issues? I see you joined Margaret's challenge, it will be good to have another big dude in there to commiserate with.

BTW, interesting restaurant name - Boston Pizza. I live near Boston and I've never heard of a chain like that. Although, from the sounds of the cheesecake, its probably best that we don't have one here.

I understand the crazy part - I've been reading your diary but didn't feel that I know you enough to intrude on your personal stuff - does that make sense?

Back is essentially better, although I feel it, having just come back from the pool. Lately I've just been feeling down, though I think I'm past that now.

Boston Pizza is a Canadian restaurant chain. There is nothing particularly Bostonian about it. :)

Oooooh....I hear ya!!! I've been having those same cravings lately!!! AHHHHH....:reddevil: pizza :drool5:!!!
 
Same on the crappy food... I have been eating like 1 - 1.5 chocolate bar's a day :( which is like 360 - 490 calories...

But I am still going in the right direction and I am sure you are too.

Just keep going! A little sugar I think is ok, at least I keep telling myself it is :)
 
I think I am out of the doldrums. Feeling a bit better, and ready for further punishment.
I don't know if it was the cheesecake or the swimming that turned me around, but whatever it was, it seems to have done the trick.

This morning was my weekly weigh-in: 277 lbs, down 2 more. This is good.

Here's yesterday's data:

June 24

breakfast - 6oz steak, 1/2 cup dry cereal

snack - 1 cup dry cereal (I totally forgot to bring any fruit to work today - left it on the counter at home)

lunch - ww pasta, tomato sauce w/meat and vegetables

snack - 1 cup dry cereal (yes, I ate a lot of cereal this day), bunch of nuts (maybe 4oz?)

supper - Boston Pizza - order of pizza bread w/bolognese dipping sauce, my daughter's leftover fries(a dozen or so), my wife's leftover baked salmon (2oz?), 3 cups of tea (from one teabag) w/honey, 1/3 huge piece of chocolate explosion cheesecake

late-night snack - 1.5oz Rose's over crushed ice

Exercise - 40 min swimming. Did 1100m, which was pretty good IMO.

Plan to hit the gym sometime today.
 
June 25

Really annoyed with myself. I had the best of intentions for supper, but then just blew it. I hate it when you derail your own plans.

breakfast - breakfast was...suboptimal. 1 sausage and egg mcmuffin, 1 doughnut, 1 banana

lunch - 2 scrambled eggs, 2 slices ww bread w/butter, hash browns

pre-workout snack - 6 graham wafers, 1 cup milk

supper - this is where I am annoyed with myself. I had planned on making a big salad and cooking up a few chicken strips to throw in it - its a favourite of mine. However, old habits betrayed me, I think. When I put the chicken strips in the oven, they looked lonely in there so I throw some oven fries in with them. While they were cooking I made the salad. Once they were done I then proceeded to eat the chicken and fries together first, and by the time I was done I didn't really feel like eating the salad anymore.
Then, to compound matters, the bread I was making for tomorrow was ready later in the evening, and I couldn't resist that aroma and had a slice with butter. And milk to wash it down.
Why didn't I eat my salad? It is what I originally wanted. It was the oven fries that derailed me. Grrr.
so - 4 chicken strips, oven fries, 1 slice ww bread w/butter, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 orange (split one with my daughter for her bedtime snack)

If there can be said to be an upside, it is that the salad is in the refrigerator waiting for me to eat it for breakfast.

Exercise - 20 minute walk in the early afternoon.
Went to the gym in the evening:
stretching then a 5-minute warmup on the stationary bike
seated leg press 250lbs 3x12
lat pulldowns 70lbs 3x12
bent-over low cable row 50lbs 3x12
tricep pressdown 60lbs 1x12, then increased the weight 70lbs 2x12
pec-dec 50lbs 3x12
DB curls 25lbs 3x12
DB shoulder press 25lbs 2x12, then decreased the weight 20lbs 1x12
DB bench press 25lbs 3x12
wrist roll-up 10lbs 1x2
reverse fly (blue exercise band) 3x12
v-crunch machine 3x12
good mornings 20lb body bar 1x12
cool-down treadmill 5 minutes
