Compound lifts?

Hey, could someone explain to me what a compound lift is. This is what i got so far. its a exercise that works a good amount of muscles. Like a bench press or squats. I currently do both of those during my leg or back day. I feel i gain more doing these things. Are there any more that anyone would reccommend doing?
 
compound vs. single joint

A compound joint movement {compound lift},is when you use more then 1 joint in the execution of the exercise.For instance,a bench press is a compound joint movement because you are using your shoulder joint & your elbow joint.An example of a single joint movement is a bicep curl,where you are only using your elbow joint.That is why it makes sense to train yor larger muscle groups first,then towards the end of your workout train your smaller
muscles because most smaller muscle exercises are of the single-joint variety.

ohh i understand now thats why when you bench you use triceps as a secondary muscle. What are some good compound lifts that are good? besdies squats and benching which i already do.
