Colon Cleansing

If you're getting enough fresh food and fiber, your body will take care of itself. The `toxins' that you hear so much about, well, they're not really there.

Yeah, I thought I would do some scholarly research before I do one of these cleanses.

I wanted to do it to join the "band wagon", and it appeared to have been a short lived fad. We'll see...if it really does cleanse your body of all those nasty toxins, then it may be quite benefical.

Hmmph, I possibly may have a doctor's appointment soon. My primary physcian should be an excellent source of information...

When you see your doc next, let us know what he/she says. I'm interested to hear. I've heard some places that the colon cleanse is detrimental and other places heard it's the greatest thing. I'd like to know what a professional thinks about the issue.

Doctors really dont know much about natural healing type stuff. I told my doctor I was going to do a cleanse and not eat for 10 days and she looked at me like I was crazy and kept asking me "so...you're not going to eat ANYTHING for 10 days????" lol.

But I did The Master Cleanse and I have to say I was very happy with the results. It has been around since the 1940s so its not just a fad. It has recently become more popular because of celebrities doing it, but its not something thats going to go away. Many people believe in healing the body naturally by what we put into ourselves.

The Master Cleanse is good because it doesn't require colonics, it uses salt water and a natural tea to get the "cleansing" going. The point of it is that our bodies in this day and age are taking in sooooo many more toxins than they used to just because of industrialization. Our liver, kidneys, etc... cant keep up with the amount of crap we are putting in ourselves. So, by not eating for 10 days or however long a person does it they are allowing their body a break from trying to get rid of incoming toxins and focus on the toxins that are already in our bodies. Many of the toxins are built up in waste in the colon and small intestine. By doing the salt water flush and the tea you are getting all that old build up out of there (and don't believe anyone that tells you that you dont have any buildup- I KNOW that after 10 days I still had stuff coming out). So I guess thats the gist of what the cleanse does. Many people don't like cleanses, but I don't think they should judge them when they have not done the research.

I know that I personally did feel better towards the end of the cleanse. My skin was a lot clearer, I felt more awake and alert, and on the last couple days I had tons of energy. During the cleanse I did have some lethargy because I was taking in a lot less calories, but it was nothing too bad.

Oh and because you will be taking in less calories (about 1200 a day) you will lose weight. However, I found that my metabolism did not slow AT ALL. If anything I think it has gotten better. I lost 14lbs in those 10 days and when I started eating regularly again, sometimes even badly, I didn't gain any weight.

Many people take cleanses and natural healing very seriously, but probably not your regular doctor. Sirant has done The Master Cleanse many times so he would be another good person to talk to. I hope some of this helps :)

Lisa you didn't have any regain? I'm just asking because I'm considering the cleanse at some point, possibly next month, but I'm really terrified of gaining it all back in the next 2 weeks after doing it. I would obviously wean myself off the cleanse in the correct manner but I still don't see how I couldn't have any sort of regain. I'm truly curious.

No I honestly didn't. I was actually REALLY surprised. I thought I would have at least SOME from accumulating food in my body again and my water levels changing, but no I had none. I think what may have happened is after the clease I was eating really healthily (at least the first few days after) so I may have continued to lose while my body was getting back to normal therefore leading me to stay the same. I started to eat kind of badly a week or so after I got off the cleanse but I still didn't gain any. In the last few days I have gotten back on the right track and started losing again, but for the last almost 3 weeks I have been the same weight (even with eating badly).

All it is, is a bunch of high fibre stuff that makes your bowels move. the crud coming out the other end funnily enough is the same crud you're scooping down your throat :)
Try changing your diet to more veg and fruit and high fibre breads and brans. It does clean you out and make you feel just as good (but maybe not as stupid) as what everyone claims the colon clenses do :D

Morning,

I saw an infomercial about colon cleaning a few months ago, and was dismayed enough by all the claims that I researched it online.

Here are some sites you should read:

Hope that helps,

I have to side with Lisa on this one ...

Colon cleansing (detox) has been around for a long time, and MANY ppl still do it - it's not just a "fad." Infact, I have a number of friends who have done it - and it made them ALL feel WONDERFUL. I've never personally done one, just because I never looked into it until more recently, and then it took me a while to decide exactly HOW to go about doing it. And I wanted to buy some good detoxifying herbs to take while doing it - so I waited until I could buy them. Now FINALLY this evening I'm starting my detox.

The AMERICAN DIET is SO overloaded with chemicals and antibiotics and toxins of other kinds (food additives like dye, etc.). PLUS alot of the foods that we eat in our culture are very hard to digest. So doing a detox diet cleanses your colon of those chemicals, toxins, etc. and "decloggs" everything.
What happens to your piping in your house when it gets clogged ? It doesn't work NEARLY as well - if at all ! Same thing with the body - our colon and intestines are our "piping system". We can't allow it to get clogged with toxins and junk.

Just as an example - there was a mortician who performed an autopsy on an elderly man after his death. The man's "piping system" weighed 60lbs !!!!!!!!!!
:eek2:
Our digestive system can and does get overloaded.

OH - and plus another thing is - do you realize how many ppl have parasites !? Most ppl DO have them. a good detox with the right herbs, etc. can rid your body of parasites also.

It's been recommended that a person should "DETOX" atleast once or twice per year.

There's a saying that I've heard alot of nutritionist and herbalist say - "Death begins in the colon."

Anyway - everyone has their own opinion. This is mine. And I will be sure to let ya'll know how everything turns out with my detox program :)

There are many different types of cleanses.....I use an internal full body nutrient cleanse, it allows for my body to replenshed of nutrients, therefore, I don't suffer from any detox symptoms.

They say that 95% of illness & disease are related to toxins, so I like cleansing them from my system. Too.....if you breathe the toxic air, drink the toxic water or eat.....then you have toxins. Toxins are embedded into the fat cells, so if you remove the toxins, you are better able to lose the fat.

By cleansing for weight loss, I have seen many that have lost 100 pounds or more in as little as 5 months and they were not left with the saggy excess skin.

Just my 2 cents:0

Just one question - how are you relating the 100 pounds weight loss to the colon cleansing? Or even the 'no saggy skin' with the colon cleansing? Are you saying the people didn't eat differently, the ONLY thing they did was, ahem, clean their colons?

Thanks!

Barbara

It is often not worth replying to threads that are well over a year old. Other people tend to have lost interest in it or left the forum.

Snopes says not true, my bad!

Bahahahhaha. Really? Proof please? Not just Internet myth and rumor.

Enough people said it, it had to be true, right? Snopes says it is false, but there has to be something cause I have heard doctors talk about toxicity build up on the colon walls.
