Thanks loads Dede23 & Fornight! I had forgotten that our bodies retain water when we were our period. Silly me. But you're right, the forum IS a great pillar of strength when you're down. So DeDe23, make sure you drink loads of water aight?? Its really important as it does wonders for you! :)

Water / Friends

Thanks sassy. I no water is needed- i just winge about it cos its cold and stuf. I had my first proper meal tonight and i am feeling a lil better. I wil deff get the water going tomoz. I might need to go back to my 600ml bottles instead of the 1.5lt until over the cold. I see it and prob shun away from it cos it looks a huge amount. I will work that out. Im glad u are finding this supportive and stuff- i think everyone needs a lil support and if u get it from here, well, good for u.

I live on own and kinda keep to self alot (get self concious of weight but im not a huge girl so i dont know why) but now i am getting back to how i want to be, i guess i will have to find ways to meet up with friends. All my friends are tiny (6-10) so i kinda got the thort in my head that they wld be embarrassed by me so i guess i shrunk into myself- not any more. Im gunna get out and show that i too, can be thin, look gd and be happy. If that means i get a new group of mates well, a bonus and a new start.

Sorry for sad sap attitude tonight- guess just feeling a little low with cold and want my friends to actually appreciate me for me. Is that too much to ask for?? Ughh, PMS hitting i think- i never go on about this stuff. I do get the sads around it though so i guess this it. Night all.

Not moving forward anymore...

:( I do not know why.. but it seems like my weight loss are not moving any forward... have weighed myself but it seems like I am not making any improvements.... I just do not know why is that so... Although mine is an interim program, i dun think the weight loss should be that slow... 2weeks and its only 3kgs... and I have not deviate once.. I am getting a bit worried...
Anyway, congrats to all gals who are losing so much weight!!!

hey dede, i KNOW how you feel. After putting on so much weight, i just sort of returned to my own shell. But it felt disheartening that i felt so low about myself, especially when you see hordes of tiny girls having so much fun with their friends. But i came to realize that not only is what im doing to myself unhealthy, but its also driving me nuts. Im sure you feel the same way too.. Dont be a hermit dede, get out and just be yourself, regardless of what other people think, thats what matters most, not what others think... You ARE working to shed that weight off, & its no easy task. Take pride in that fact and hold that head high! =)

babyegg, dont fret so much. Just weigh yourself once a month and see your weight loss from the big picture. Weighing yourself frequently just adds undue stress upon yourself, when really, there's nothing to be worried about. This diet WORKS. Have faith in it, don't deviate, and just watch the pounds melt off. Also read your booklet again and see if there's something wrong you're doing. Just to make sure! :D

Babyegg I remember Joysey (a successful Cohen dieter) wrote that if you find your weigh loss getting slow, try to include white fish in all your meals (that is if fish is in your meal 1 to 2, 'coz mine is only 2 & 3). Last week, I tot my loss is slow. I weigh myself almost like every alternate day (I wan to know the trend of the loss). Weighing yourself too often is not encouraged though. Anyway, back to the story, I ate white fish for my lunch and dinner and almost like after 2 days, the loss starts to get better. You don't have to continue this for too long. Just a kick start your weigh loss mode and then you can get back to your other proteins.

Try it!!!

Hello, I am new to this forum but have been on Cohens for a few months. I thought I read that someone said they knew were to get the Usana Vitamins in Singapore. If that person is reading this would you let me know where. Also what have some of you done when you are loosing very slowly but not cheating? And last but not least, is anyone having a problem with their skin and hair drying out? Thank you all for this forum. It got me started and it keeps me going!

gpm Hi, I know someone who can sell usana products to you in Singapore. Please pm me. As for the dry hair and skin, my hair has always been dry but I use a new brand of shampoo and conditioner lately and its much better now. Skin....its not as oily as in the past but on the other hand, i am getting older too.

weekly check in

hi ladies,

I've lost .5 this week - not surprising, I went away for the weekend to merimbula and didn't quite follow the rules!!

To everyone struggling with 'slow' weight loss, try doing measurements as well - they change faster than drop in kgs.

at this cold time of year, i've been having a one egg omlette with my vegie weight in tomato, mushroom and baby spinach for brekkie. Warm, lots and filling. I have one cracker with it.

anyway, positive thoughts girls - you all can do it - heaps of you out there are mothers, wives, full time workers, students, students overseas and far from home.... and ,many more roles at that. Some are probably all!! We are all women - therefore we have more than enough potential within us to do this. We just need to find the right little spot within us that lets us look after ourselves and not just everyone else.

ok, i'll stop the preaching now!!

10 days in

hi guys
just to let you know that i'm 10 days in and have lost 5kgs.
I understand that some of that is loss of fluid and waste, but my jeans are getting baggier.
i'm aiming not to have another weigh in until the end of the four weeks. i'm finding the food is quite enough, and drinking heaps of water isn't a chore anymore.
good luck to everyone else, and thanks for the helpful posts

Thanks all!!

Fornight, thanks for that suggestion...

Thank U all for all the encouragement.. I would go through my booklet once again and see if there are anything that I have missed or done wrongly.. and also to make sure that I am on the right track... I would not step on the weighing machine till my 4th week is up than... hopefully i can control myself...:D

Hi All
Some of you may have heard that the Melbourne clinics are no longer and I am one of the poor waifs who is now homeless!
I lost 12kgs at my first weigh in and have gone down 2 dress sizes but with 10kgs to go I have plateaued and need some suggestions to bust through to the next stage. Any suggestions from the experienced Dr Cohen members?

hi michelle
i too plateaued at around 3 weeks but the wonderful ladies on the forum told me to up my water so i drink over 4 litres a day and bam it started to move really quickly. I eat only kangaroo for my meat allowance because it has just about no fat in it at all. just stick with it you will lose cm's faster than kilos but it will come off!!i am naughty and weigh myself constantly and have no lost 13kgs in 4 weeks but if you dont need to lose as much it does go a bit slower . and remember muscle weighs more if you are toning up as well.
good luck my thoughts are with you

starting off tomorrow

Hi,
Got my program this week, and I'm off and running tomorrow..... except that I need to do some shopping. I just went to have a look at what I can have for breakfast - I;m going to have to go for yoghurt, cause thats all I have.
Tonight we went out for dinner as a family. My kids had made me a card, and bought me a little gift to wish me luck. So, today I ate all the things I'm not going to be able to eat on the program to have my final "goodbye" to them for a while.
and tomorrow I start my new life! I have 57kilos to lose, so it will take me some time to get there. But I'm going to give it my best shot!

I had what I thought was a good idea as I was driving to dinner. I really like finishing meals with something sweet, but I don't want to "waste" my fruits in case I'm hungry during the day. I know that the hunger should pass. But I thought I can freeze diet lemonade and solo into ice-block makers and have an iceblock after dinner at night. That will make me feel like I'm having dessert. So, I'm going to try that and see how it goes. I don't really like drinking diet softdrinks - but eating them will be fine!

Flu sux

I slept til 1pm after geting to sleep at 4.30am. NOw got the scratchy throat and nose. Im just ARGHHHH. I havent had much water- none actually. I just cant. I no i am doing myself wrong with this but i guess im just so exhauseted with the cold i have to accept that i need a few days to just feel sorry for self. But, i havent deviated which i am glad for-i went to store just before and i did stand in front of the bagette rolls for 10mins deciding whether i wld be a lil lax with it but i DIDNT BUY THEM. CAme home and cooked sm chicken and vegies. Has anyone else got the cold?? I bort sugar free Vit C and sucking back sm oranges. I gotta snap back into reality- tomorrow, after a gd night sleep. I still have willpower (i resisted the bagette didnt i???) i just gota get sm restful sleep.

By the way, how do u cook garlic- i tried tonight but it was very bitter! I just crushed it and seared for a minute. Garlic is meant to kill germs. Im gunna try my mums remedy of Vicks on the soles of ur feet and put pair socks over them. And on ur chest. Body supposed to absorb thru them and clear it. Anything is worth a try huh. I nearly bort cold and flu meds tonight but dont want to suppress it- thats all those meds do unfort.

I dont want u to go Oh poor dee but any ideas/suggestions on overcoming this quickly is welcomed!! I have shoulder surgery coming up in a week or so (31st) so i must be over it by then or they wont do it.

Night and happy cohens.

I was told that one can eat a piece of RAW GARLIC empty stomach each day to keep flu away. I have a sensitive nose and I get cold very often. I DEFINITELY dun have the guts to do that. If you dare, you can try?

Pickled Garlic?

Dede - I'm not sure if it would be allowed or not but I have seen pickled garlic for sale in some delicatessens. I think it is pickled in white vinegar, but you would have to check the list of ingredients to see if anything else is added. Or you could try making your own? I can't stomach raw garlic, but this pickled stuff was really nice...maybe it would help to fight off the cold/flu? Remeber though, you would have to include it in your veggie allowance for whatever meal you have it with. Just a thought.

DeDe sorry to hear you are so sick. I hate colds and flu's with a vengeance. My hubby makes me have toast with loads of garlic on it. Tastes disgusting, but definetely brings all the stuff up off your chest. I reckon the most important thing is sleep, sleep and more sleep. If you take the cold and flu tablets that give some relief so you can do that (esp the nite time ones) I find that helps me the most.

Well it has been a while. I think I am just so over this program – it has been too long. Sorry I’ve been so slack. I am not depressed or anything, just fed up with the restrictions of the program. Don't anyone be put off by this - it is a great program!! It is just that it has been over a year of my life, and I am eager to move on from it. Sorry it's meant I haven't posted, but it doesn't mean I am not pleased for all your achievements and am still encouraged by all of your combined efforts.

gayegel: Thanks for asking about me. And I am still working away at it just as hard, just too weary of the program to keep focusing on it and to post. When we started our challenge you were always ahead, then the old me, and then me tagging along. The margin between us was shrinking and it still has by a couple of kilos, so both of you stay on track! We can all do this. And you gayegel will arrive before us if you keep concentrating so will be able to bring us all your valuable expertise when it comes to refeed!

L-Jay: Good to see you are riding more solidly now, and it is clicking together. Good for you.

To those who are sick – up your vitamins, keep warm, don’t give up the water (drink it warm if you need to), and stay focused. Sickness will pass.

Arowan: Congratulations on getting through refeed!! I am so thrilled for you, it is such an achievement.

Anyone who is not going to a clinic – don’t hesitate to ring or email a consultant to get the information or support that you want. Just because they are not weighing you in Melbourne, doesn’t mean that you have to miss out – give one of the clinics a ring!!

To those losing slowly – Babyegg, don’t be too discouraged, it might be a slower start on interim but at least you are moving. And gpm, as Ready to Lose says, you measure. You drink more water, change the order of the meals around, have your fruit or biscuits at a different time, make sure you take some psyllium or unprocessed wheatbran or something to keep your system moving, and then you just accept that this is your body on a healing path, and you can’t rush it! Relax and let your body do its work. Take some chromium. And sleep as well and as long as you can.

As for me, I have had 2 good weeks so 2kgs in 2wks. Now considering the 4 weeks before was only 2.3 in total, I am pleased. All is not lost! My impatience is rising, but at this stage that is to be expected, so whats to say? On the bright side, I have lost 50kgs and my goal weight is 49kgs so that is a whole person!! And it is so good to finally be 50.something too! Add on what I lost before Cohens and I can hardly believe it. These are things I am totally thrilled with.

Also I have realized something else. I am so different in shape to how I was at this weight years ago! And I am happier with this weight now than I ever was in the past. Interestingly, there are parts of my body where I think I really don’t want to lose any more. And around the shoulders and in the front above the bust I have lost a bit more than I need to. All the weight is in the lower back, the hips and stomach, the front and inside of the thighs, and in the bust. I am fascinated to watch how the body will shape itself from here. As of now my BMI is finally 25 point something! So top of a healthy BMI range. Wow! However my waist to hip ratio is still unhealthy and my waist measurement still above what they say the danger zone is. So some work to do there. Getting there - step by step!

Have a good weekend everyone,
Began 9th July 2005 … To end 20th October, 2006
lizzi . . . 91 days to go! … 13weeks 0 days

I had the very best day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies,

Sorry i didn't post yesterday but we got losts of great news and i decided to take my daughter shopping for a mother/daughter day.

Where do i begin... i think with a big THANKYOU (baby81, L-jay, less of me, DeDe23) to everyone for praying for my daughter. It turned out the she just has a really aggressive infection in the sweat gland & lyph node, she is now on strong antibiotics & is feeling much better already. I think she stressed herself out and also didn't tell me for a week or so that it was there and hurting until it got so big she couldn't put her arm down (lump size of tennis ball). Now even over night it is the size of a golf ball so prayer works & the medication. We are very greatful that it was as L-jay & DeDE said a simple infection (I can cope with that ha ha....).

Second bit of wonderful news is I have lost 12kgs in my first month. I'm so stoked i'm almost in double figures (lookout next month) & i have lost 66cm in total from Bust/chest - thigh - arms & waist areas that i'm measuring. Way to go me (sorry for boasting)but i feel great, wonderful and exstatic(spelling??). I'm getting compliments all the time and people ask if i have changed my hair or something - it gives me a great feeling.

Lizzie - well done on your loss it wpn't be much longer now.
Less of me - thanks again for your prayers and support it means a great deal to me that people care for others out in this world.
DeDe23- my prayers are with you. Are you taking evening primrose oil and fish oil? They are both allowed on my list and my doctor actually recommended them to keep my body right to fight infections. Garlic is also great - i use it with just about every meal. If you don't like it fresh the masterfood granulated garlic is really good. Fresh garlic can be chooped, pressed or mashed (you can soften it with a little boiling water) with other herbs and is great to marinade anything (fish, chicken or beef).
Babyegg - just be patient and up your water a little just because there isn't movement on your scales doesn't mean your body isn't getting itself right. Just hang in there and don't weigh yourself so often which i know is difficult but try not too.
Michelle - don't feel alone there is a few of us on here that got left my Melbourne, as Lizzie said ring another clinic (Geelong girls are really helpful) and stay in contact on here these girls are great and exteremly supportive and insightful. I also agree with KarenK and fornigh up your water & include some white fish into your diet. Hope this helps.
HeavenlyLamb - welcome i also had lots of weight to loss, so good luck you will see the weight come off really quickly. Freezing your soft drink is a great idea i used to do if for my kids when they were toddlers and i like them in summer, its a bit cold for me at the moment. As for your fruit i don't get hungry during the day like i used to, so if i haven't eaten my fruit i will have it after dinner or as part of my dinner. You will be suprised at how hungry you wont be on this program.
L-jay - good to here you are back on track.
Mumbine - How are you doing this week?
Magic Lea- Where are you & how is it going as I know you have been busy at work.

Well I'd better go but thanks heaps for reading my verrrrryyyyy long post. Have a blessing of a day/week/month

Keep drinking that water ladies and hold your head high.
Cheers from one very happy Jewls
