Hi Everyone,
Just a quickie before I head off to do my 100000 jobs this morning.

Moni - Looking good girlfriend!!(wolf whistles all round) Very interested in your post.

My refeed was not without its dramas mainly because of previous surgery. It has now been modified so that I have 5-6 small meals per day. I can have milk tommorrow. In the first few days of the refeed I lost an additional 1 kg of weight but put 800gms of it back on because I couldn't eat all the food. My body went into starvation mode and I started to put weight on. Very upsetting. Anyway diet modified weight, stabilised again and today I am back to 1 kg lost.

Will write a little more about what I can and can't have tonight.

Have a great day everyone &keep up with the fluids!

PinkVirgo My shoe size is 8.5 so I would say both shoe size as well as height definitely influence your goal weight. I have no idea what the formula would be though, but your frame size would have to come in to it, I'd imagine.
Moni You look amazing! Proof that taking a "before photo" is worth while!
I've been naughty and weighing myself every day and have seen no weight loss the past 2 days, so I checked my waist measurement - down 7cm since Friday! So even when the scales don't shift, I will keep myself motivated by checking my measurements!

DAY 6 & 4kg's down!

Moni A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on hitting double digits!!! Well done! You must be so proud of yourself - that is such an accomplishment - well done!! you look amazing in your photo's! truly inspirational!

Myshygood to hear that refeed is going well (after the modification) how long does refeed usually go fo?

Have a great Tuesday ladies!

ciao

Spot on the mark!!

Hey everyone!

MONI - you look great honey!! Congrats to you. I bet your clinic is so very proud of your weight loss so far - as you should be too :) Wow, the cheese really did have an impact hey?? Interesting, I'm hoping if I lay off it for a while it will effect my loss too. Although I've only ever been having it once a day. Such a shame though, cos just like TASH I'm simply addicted to having grilled tomato and cheese ( which I then pop on to crispbread ) as well as muchrooms and tinned asparagus with grilled cheese... it's simply devine and one of the easiest lunches to make. I won't be giving it up completely, that's for sure, but certainly laying of it for a bit. So glad to hear you had immediate success when you stopped the cheese. Congrats again on how far you've come!!

Well, I weighed myself this morning as it's day one of week five for me... and I DID IT!!! I was spot on... I've lost exactly 7 kilos! My eyes nearly popped out of my head, not because I'd lost 1.4 kilos ( an improvement on last week! ) but because I'd lost exactly 7 kilos, which was my first month goal! Talk about doing things to perfection LOL

I'm interested to see about this sweetener I've been using, and also what my consultant says about cheese. Even though I'm super happy with 7 kilos in a month, I still think I could be doing better and am intrigued to get my consultants advice as to whether there's anything I can do or cut back on to help speed up the loss. I'm going away to Melbourne for a weekend in late May ( going to see The Lion King before it leaves Aus ) and would SO LOVE to have done my refeed by then, so I can enjoy eating out and not having to stress about it or feel guilty. Here's hoping my weight loss bumps up to super speed from here on in!!

Keep up the great work everyone. Take care ;)

Caffeine...

Hi L-JAY,

My consultant told me that it's recommended to drink caffeine free diet coke simply because caffeine can make you feel hungry... that was it.

I've been on the net to check out what they say about caffeine. This is one extract I found about caffeine on a diet:

Coffee, caffeine and weight loss: The whole story...
Caffeine — possibly the most popular drug in the world — is also one of the most controversial. According to some, caffeine increases your metabolic rate, making weight loss faster and easier. It's also supposed to boost performance in the gym.

Others contend that caffeine makes you hungry by triggering a rise, followed by a sharp fall, in blood sugar levels. In theory, a caffeine-induced rise in calorie intake could wipe out any beneficial effect on your metabolic rate.

Recent reports also suggest that caffeine raises both blood sugar and insulin levels. This leads to temporary signs of a condition called insulin resistance. As well as making weight loss more difficult, some experts believe that insulin resistance increases your risk of both heart disease and type II diabetes.

I couldn't read any further into the article because you have to be a member to do so... UUGH! So can't say what's really going on.. but worth a thought.

Til next time :D

Okay well day one down. I am determined to do this. I am going to do this. I am standing strong w my diet and am looking forward to the whole idea of really testing my willpower over the next few days ... so much so that i have decided to set a challenge for myself and make a deal. I am not going to stray from the cohens once over the long weekend nor on my birthday on thursday - and i am going 2 shout myself 2 a new wallet. So theres some serious incentive. Am feeling fine and off to see HOSTEL at the movies and will be drinking water and pepsi max. I am not going to bother with the whole holding off on pepsi max and coke zero - dont want to do 2 much all at once.

Wow MONI you look amazing. Great inspiration my sweet and thanks for the water tip ... i am currently making a rule that i must drink 3 litres before i leave work but with ur post i am going to up that over the next few days. just a question do u reckon we can include herbal teas as part fo our water quotas each day?

well looks like your all doing well. heres to wearing those skinny leg jeans. :)

Morning ladies!

I checked my old WW passport this morning (I did the program from September to December 2004) and was astonished at the results I achieved on that program, compared with Cohens. On WW I lost 6.5kg over 12 weeks, and that was including walking about 6km per day, 5 days a week. I started Cohen's on Friday and have now lost 4.5kg already! I just can't believe the difference in the speed of getting results!

A question for all of you: I know the food guide that we got with the Cohen's program nominated a few different types of white fish that we were allowed to eat: flake, hake etc but I was wondering if anyone had raised the question at their clinic as to whether other types of fish are ok. Here in Tassie we don't really have those types of fish for sale at the fish markets, but we have Pink Ling, Trevella etc which are not oily and are certainly classified as white fish. Do you think these would be acceptable types of fish to substitute? It is my husband's birthday tomorrow and he doesn't eat meat so I was hoping to cook him a special fish dinner and hopefully the same dish but a smaller portion for myself. I'm just stuck trying to think of what kind of fish I could use...

Last night I decided to keep a weekly photo "journal" of my weight loss on this program. Each Friday I am going to pose (!) for the camera in exactly the same spot so that when I finish the program I can line each of the photos up and see how my body changed each week. It will be daunting but I think I'll be glad that I did it once I'm back down to goal.

Keep up the good work everyone. We can all do it!

Good Morning Everyone,
Moneypenny - I would ask your clinic for some guidence regarding the fish. These days fish comes under so many different names and can vary within a state, so they will most likely be able to give you some suggestions. If not, let us know and maybe we could do some asking at our clinics.I have to go to mine tommorow and they are very good about that sort of thing.

Diamonds - Herbal teas do not form part of your quota for the day, just plain water does.Good luck with the next few days, you'll be in the swing of it before too long.

I never questioned the caffiene component of the diet, but was very interested in reading L-Jays post. It sounds like the info you got was spot on.On my plan it says that I can have normal coffee but only 3 cups per day and after that caffiene free. I made the switch on day 1 and haven't looked back. I also prefer the taste of the CF diet coke over the rest so that has also been easy. Maybe the diet has been designed so that people do not guzzle coke all day instead of drinking water?Even a tiny bit of caffiene becomes a lot if you drink 10 cans a day. I'd ask the clinic for some input.

ok......refeed.
Day 9 for me. My refeed goes a total of 16 days.
Today I have the option of 40gms old protein, 40 gms new protein, 160gms vegies (all extra on top of my plan), 2 pieces of fruit (pinapple, banana, cherries, passionfruit) and 3 slices of bread. I can also have 50mls of milk if I want, but to do this I have to cut down my extra protein by 40gms.

I am sure that exceept for the odd execption (me!) everyone would be really enjoying the extra food and the options open to them. It does require a little more thought and planning, but nothing extreme.

I have lost 1 kg on the refeed so my weight is at 62.2. Cohens set my goal for 59-61, both of which are a little low for me.(height 167cm, shoe size 8) I carry weight quite well until I hit the 10kg over threshold. 62 kg was my initial goal.

Tonight will be interesting as far as food goes. My partner is recieving an award at the County Courts. Lots of pomp & ceremony and probably an array of inappropriate food and wine, but we'll see!

I have the ultimate in temptation tommorow (Camberwell) & next week (Forest Hill) as I will be doing a promotion for a new 'dark chocolate' being released by Cadburys. I will have to taste some, I have strict rules about using/trying the products I am selling, but hopefully it won't be so yummy I'll need someone there restraining me from eating it all.

Moni - you have lost weight equivalent to my 14 year old daughter. That alone would have to be inspirational to someone. What an incredible achievement.

Good to see so many new faces on the forum.....keep up the fantastic work.

Myshy

All I have to say is WTF. I have put on 0.4kg. What the...? Is this why I'm not supposed to look at the scales until the end of the month? I have followed the program 100% I drink 2L of water a day (no diet soft drink/coffee/tea) and this is what happens?? The only think I could possibly think of, is that I have been having chicken and veges for lunch and dinner for the past few days or more (I don't eat fish). Any help guys?? I'm really starting to get a little disappointed.

Hi Kim,
It is disappointing to see any sort of gain and I'm sure this is why they tell us not to weigh every day. Maybe go for an extra litre of water (are you drinking all day and not just at night?) and swap a few of your meals around. If you can, have meal option 3 at breakfast and have a light dinner. Or try to vary your meal to include meat one meal instead of chicken. Are you having all your crisbread?

Our bodies are funny things - we hang on to water at certain times of the month, maybe this is it?

Other than that, keep sticking to the plan and stay positive. You might see a sudden drop in a day or so. Good Luck.

Hi everyone. long time no post, but I check in every day to see how you all are going. I've been trying to maintain my weight and get myself back in the right frame of mind to get back on the program and shift my last bit of weight. I made up my mind last night that today is the day, and so this morning I woke up and had my Cohen's breakfast, and have just had my morning tea, and so far I'm feeling great. I have bought some chromium, and am hoping that this will help. I am wanting to get back on for at least 2 weeks, and then do the re-feed again. They tell you in "life After" that you can go back on the program any time you want, and you only have to do the re-feed if you have been back on the program for 2 weeks or more, but I tried this at the beginning of February, and believe me, IT DOESN"T WORK!! If you ever go back on the program, make sure you do at least 2 weeks and then re-feed. I did the program for 1 week, and then went off without doing re-feed, and have been having trouble ever since. I was having cravings again( until I got the chromium), and generally just eating rubbish. I had maintained for 3 months ( with 2 holidays included) without any trouble, and with no weight gain until I went back on it. I have now (in about 6 weeks) gained 3.5kg EEEKKKK, so I really am in need of support to get focused again, and shift at least the 3.5kg I have gained, but hopefully I will be able to stick to it a bit longer and take off the extra 10 kg I still had to lose.
Moni - you look incredible. I think you look like a different person!!
Myshy - good to hear you are still losing on re-feed. What did they do to modify your re-feed? Keep up the great work, and soon "Life After" begins.
Moneypenny - I was also on weight watchers, and I lost 18kg in 12 months. On Cohen's I lost 35 kg in 4 months!! No wonder we find Cohen's so encouraging. Your photo journal sounds like a great idea. I wish I had thought of it when I started. Make sure you post your photos so we can see your progress.
Kim_j01 - don't be too worried. I found that I lost different amounts at different times of the month. If I was having a slow week, I would change the batteries in my food scales ( in case they were going flat and not weighing the food correctly), try to drink more water, eat less salt ( this made a huge difference), and as I always tend to eat the same thing, I would adjust what I was eating . This usually worked and got the weight loss moving again.
Fiorella - try not to break the program as it will go so much faster if you stick to it 110%. I lost 35kg in 4 months, and didn't break the program once ( mainly beacause I knew my track record and knew if I broke it, I probably wouldn't get back on it). They say for every time you break the diet, you add an extra week to it, so try thinking is whatever you want to eat worth another week on the diet!!
Anyway, sorry I have rattled on a bit. Have a great day everyone. Talk to you soon.
Beck

Thanks guys, you're help means a lot.

Myshy, it may be that time of the month. Although I don't have a regular cycle so I can't be certain, but I have been crabby today and very emotional (started crying at work lol)

rjm, I only bought electronic scales yesterday lol. So I'm hoping the batteries don't need replacing already. Even thought I was using those dodgy old ones, I still saw a 4.5kg loss in less than a week. I'm not sure, maybe the new scales will help with the accuracy though.

Hi Moneypenny, :)

My consultant explained that the other types of fish have an oiler/fattier flesh than the ones suggested by Dr Cohen. Which would be in breech of the no oil not fats - (except spray canola / olive oil). Sorry hun, I hope you can find a fish in Tassie than will be ok?

:) Princess Lou - Thanks also for the recipes, have printed a few and will try them over the next few weeks.

:) Moni - Most impressed with your photo's, wow. Go girl. Glad to hear you're doing it for the children, but more importantly it's for YOU.

Moneypenny - when out to drinks pour your diet coke or whatever into a glass and keep it topped up so if anyone asks to get you a drink you can say you've just got a refill. They'll think it's scotch, ouzo or whatever. Only you will know or you could say that you're the skipper tonight which is cool.
I have told some of my friends that I'm doing this diet but guess what, out of about 12 people the only one person that was negative would weigh about 30 kgs than me. Just weight!!! I'll show her. :D

Hi everyone, its day 12 for me and I have been doing everything right with no breaking but today I have been hungry all day. Has this happened to others? I haven't been hungry up to now.
