Kangaroo Meat

Just wondering if anyone has used Kanagroo Meat whilst on Cohens? It is classified as a LEAN red meat & has been given the National Heart Foundation's Red Tick of Approval as a healthy meat.

After eating Kanagroo meat during my recent visit to NT, my curiosity hightened to find out a little bit more about it.

The research that I've done shows Kanagroo meat has the lowest levels of fat (approx 2%), and this fat is also the highest known source of healthy fat. 40% of the fat in kangaroo meat consist of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) molecules which are believed to improve blood flow, reduce the blood’s tendency to clot, and thereby reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Other benefits include high levels of protein, iron & zinc and also Low in Cholesterol, when compared to other lean meats. See attached chart that shows comparison details.

Would like to know what others think? I'm going to contact my clinic this week to confirm its Ok to have .....

Mel the kangaroo meat is on my program along with beef and veal - I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks for letting us know you are in ketosis too, because you have your crackers and fruit as well from what you have said.

Interested to know what others experience

First day at work - not even the boys realised I was eating anything different! Yes! Didn't want to get into a diet debate today!

Just wondering though, does anyone have any creative salad dressings? I'm sure that someone must have one with the mayo, some vinegar, herbs, chilli etc. thanks guys!

One other thing, does it matter when I have the fruit? So far I've only been having one piece with breakfast, and not eating the other piece because I haven't been hungry. Ta

Minxy You are amazing! 5.5kgs in 7 days! That is fabulous!

I can't wait to hop on the scales..........

ridiculous, I was told that the fruit and the biscuits can be eaten absolutely any time.
Glad it went well today

Quick hello

Hi to everyone and great to see everyone focussed and on their way to achieving great results.

Mel: my program also allows KANGAROO, BEEF OR VEAL. I have actually seen kangaroo meat in trays here in Woolworths. No, I haven't tried it but my kids have and have enjoyed it.

Ridiculous: I was also told I can have the crackers and fruit at any time but not more than two crackers at once as the body otherwise stores them as starches. The fruit is good for in between times if you feel a little hungry.

To everyone, keep up the good work and lets all be happy losers. ;)

yes mel I do have Insulin resistance, will have to get more info from you about ketosis.

welcome to our new ladies, this is a great program....I have struggled with my weight for a very long time (since a child)...for the people that don't know me, I started this program on the 27th of October 2005 just after we nearlly lost our 15 mth old son.... I was too big to go an the helicopter to Sydney.....This changed my life.......Since this day only 20 weeks ago I have lost 50kg's with 27 to go............If I can do this anyone can...I to have PCOS that stops you from lossing weight.........

I think we all have it in us, but some of us may need a little more of a helping hand. I am here to help if any one needs it...... tasmonty_au@yahoo.com.au

sorry to have gone on a bit.........Talk to you soon.

Its interesting to hear that some of you have Kanagroo Meat listed on your Cohens Plan - I don't which is strange (?hmm?), hence the reason why I brought up the question. Im going to put the question fwd to my consultant.

Christie (Moni) - your doing fabulous as always, very proud of you & Im sure that your hubby & kids are as well. We're neck & neck with our weight's now so we're on the home run together =) You've never lost sight of the reason(s) that have made you turn your life around & brought you this far - you are the essence of word 'determination' and I admire you for this and so much more - 3 big cheers on the massive loss so far!

Hopeful1 -

Moni & I both have PCOS. Just thought I would reply with some info to give you an understanding of what it is: (similar info has been posted previously but just thought I would give a re-fresher)

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder.

PCOS is due to an underlying metabolic problem known as insulin resistance. When the body's muscles and fat tissues become resistant to insulin action, the pancreas produces increased amounts insulin, leading to high insulin levels. In a woman with PCOS, these high insulin levels can set into play a vicious cycle that makes weight loss extremely difficult. Because the high insulin levels tend to produce food cravings, particularly in the form of carbohydrates, a woman often finds herself in a state of Overnourishment. These high insulin levels also drive the ovary to produce high amounts of male hormones (androgens) leading to Ovarian Confusion. This unhealthy environment in the ovary causes follicles to literally die before they release mature eggs resulting in Ovulation Disruption.

Women with PCOS experience an array of symptoms which are often found in different combinations from person to person. These symptoms include very irregular or absent periods, large and cystic ovaries, obesity, excessive body hair growth or acne, cholesterol, heart diseases. Women with PCOS usually experience significant ovulation problems, there is an increased difficulty in achieving pregnancy.

Moni - sorry hun, didnt mean to jump in & over-take with a response to Hopeful1's question! Pls feel free to add any other info :)

Yummy Kangaroo....

Mel - isn't it a bit bizarre how we're the only country that eats it's national animal?!?!?!

Anyways, I have roo on my menu, had only ever tried a small piece at a barbie ages ago - but as this program is all about new things......gave it a go and now I have it about three to four times a week!! I absolutely LOVE it, and actually now prefer it over steak! I just get it from the supermarket...nothing that flash....it's really well priced though, and like you said, it is SOOOO good for you, VERY low in fat and very high in....well all the other stuff!! :p The trick is though, to not cook it too long, or it will go really tough and taste like crap....cook a roo steak on high heat, and only turn it once....it tastes best and retains its tenderness if cooked to medium rare......I love to have it with garlic mushrooms (cut into chunks and sprinkled with garlic powder when fried in olive oil spray) and my allowance of onion, with two spears of tinned asparagus served on top of the steak....YUMMO!!!

Give it a go ladies.....this program is all about broadening your horizons!!!!

Good luck for the week ahead!!!

Hi there!

I am new to this forum, it seems like a really supportive and encouraging group of people, and would love to get involved.

There are some really encouraging stories, I have been reading all the postings. Well done to everyone.

I have not yet started my program, I have had my blood test and am awaiting my program. I am on the detox program at present. I am really looking forward to starting, and to the results! I am just so sick of being overweight and can't wait to do something about it that I know will work.

First, a bit about me. I am an Australian from Melbourne now living in London. It is nice to see so many aussies on this forum, reminds me of home. Like many other young aussies I have suffered the dreaded 'Heathrow Injection' and am now seven or eight kilos heavier than when I arrived in the UK 2.5 years ago. I don't fit into my clothes anymore!

I heard about the Cohen program in Australia on my last visit back in January, while I was driving around sunny Melbourne. I looked at their website and saw that there was a clinic in London. I finally made contact with them and am now started on the process.

It seems like it is an effective program, if a little rigid. I am not sure how I am going to cope weighing everything. My consultant seems lovely though. However, it does motivate me knowing it will take longer to lose the weight if I deviate. My consultant has told me it should take a month to six weeks to lose the weight, don't know how you guys are going for months and months. You must have amazing willpower!

I have a few questions...

1. Do you feel tired on the program? It does not seem like that much food
2. How have people coped doing exercise? I run 3-4 times a week and am hoping to be able to keep it up.
3. How do people cope when they go out? I don't really want to become a hermit for the next six weeks

Looking forward to hearing from you all

Kathy

MissKath - to answer your questions:

1. Until yesterday (nearly 1-month since starting the program) I have been completely exhaused and weak. I really feel like I turned a corner yesterday as I actually felt fine by 4pm whereas I have usually been dead on my feet by that time of day.

2. I couldn't in a million years imagine running 3 times a week considering how I have felt on the program, but then again, I'm not really a "go for a run" kind of person.

3. This program is not conducive to a social life and I have found it hard to eat out etc on the program without packing my own meals in advance. You say you'd rather not be a hermit for 6-weeks: most of us are on this program for a period of many months, in some cases years. We should be so lucky to lay low for 6-weeks and emerge as skinny versions of ourselves! It's up to you how serious you are about the program but I would feel a slight sacrifice of social life for a few weeks is worth it to fit in to all my old clothes again, but hey - that's just me, I guess.

Good luck...!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

With respect to the posts about Ketosis, I am now confused completely...! I looked through the older posts on the forum and found some mention of Ketosis and Keto-stix so perhaps others have been as confused as I am. Can anyone offer a definitive answer?

Am frustrated - I have been stuck on the same weight since Friday now, which is annoying. Going for my blood test on Thursday thought and according to Cohen's I am nearing the end of the monthly weight loss "cycle" I guess so to be expected in part... Hopefully the pace picks up again for the next month!

Finally received the invitation to my friend's wedding in May - it's black tie and the dress I want to wear is still too small for me so really hoping I can ramp up the weight loss in order to fit in to this dress by the time the wedding rolls around... I have had it for ages and it cost $1,500 and I've only ever worn it twice so I really want to get another run out of it...

Keto-stix are the 'strips/sticks' used to test for Ketosis - in simple terms you piss on a strip and the colour result determines if you are in Ketosis or not. Does this help clarify your confusion??

Mel - thanks but I think I started this confusion! I have been using the KetoStix for exactly that purpose but someone posted that we're not supposed to be in Ketosis on this program so that is why I 'm confused! I thought getting in to Ketosis was a good thing and sped up the weight loss...

Re:Extra Drops???

Sugar free lollies

:) Happymummy - re question..."Just a small question for any one who might know I am addicted to eating the new Extra Drops in orange flavour..does anyone have any thought on these..I can't see why they wouldn't be allowed but I may be wrong..."

My Plan say's NO sugar-free 'Lollies' are allowed, however 5 pieces of sugar-free gum are allowed a day... Please look over your program again, you may have missed it?? Mine says it under the heading "Extra's" I was advised to read over my program once a week, sometimes we miss things - this way we can refresh our minds & pick up on the things we may have missed XX :)

I too am so tired I could lay down and cry. I've got a long day at work today and will be out tonight until aroun 10pm. I feel as if I'm not coping very well at the moment. Feeling really teary. Eating - wise I'm sticking to the plan 100%. Still not weighing until April 6. I work in a supermarket and all day I see all kinds of yummy things and just try and keep switched off. I feel like today is a Monday, I cant get my head together, and just want to crawl into bed and die. Sorry for the big whinge. I just feel shocking at the end of my 2nd week. I know it will get better. Well done everyone, will post more encouraging stuff when I get some energy. Thanks for encouragement x

Cohen's and Pregnancy

Hi Ladies,

Gosh, it has been a while! I am busily trying to read through all of the posts whenever I get a spare five minutes.

I have a quick question for anyone who might have some info... Does anyone know what happens with the program if you fall pregnant? I know that you should not be on the program while pregnant (as the ketones can be harmful to a baby), but what happens if you haven't finished the program?

After losing 20kgs my hubby and I have decided that we might try for #2 now and then afterwards I can go back on the program to lose the rest of the weight. However, I don't want to have to pay for the full price of the program again. I don't know what to do. I wouldn't need to go on a refeed as I have been on and off the program during the past few weeks. I'm really getting quite stressed about it all now and don't know what to do.

re; pregnancy

Dear Sammy

My best advise is speak to your clinic, I can't see why they can't order your refeed and just have it waiting there for you once you finish your program...but again you'd have to talk to your clinic..

I do believe though that you have been on the program 100% FOR AL LEAST 2 wks before refeed can b ordered.

Also your contract with Cohens is only for 12 months...

Anyway best to talk to your Clinic consultant.

Also will have to read through my program again its been so long but I don't remember anything about no sugar free lollies But I will check...

Fancy Easter being so close...I CAN TASTE THE CHOCIES..

No really think I'll be ok..

My kids are loving all the choc...lol

Anyway have a good Cohens Day ..

Easter

Hi All
Its so hard to keep up with one and all.
Everyone is so encouraging. And doing a great job sticking to the diet. Love the Tickers and would like to do one but am practically computer illiterate. How do you paste them. Have been to the website. Followed the prompt but cant paste it in. Any suggestions?
<a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/">
<img border="0" src="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/3;9;77;1;1/c/80/t/54/s/86/k/3437/weight.png"></a>
Dont know if that worked or not?
HappymummyEaster is going to be really tough. We(family) will be down south of WA (Margaret River area) have some guests coming as well, lots of drinking and BBq etc. Ive already volunteered to be Skipper for the vineyard tours. Might try and avoid all lunches out unless i can take my own. I can picnic at some of the vineyards but not all. And then there is chocolate!
