Hey there everyone,

I hope I'm doing this right. Well I'm really in no mood to start a diet. But you guys are making me look so lazy! I'm going to be 23 in a couple of weeks and that will make just about ten years of hiding under sweatshirts, constantly adjusting my shirt, wondering who's looking at what part of me, and shopping trips ending in tears or frustration. In the last year I've began eating healthier and less. Now I just need to work off everything I've accumulated. I weigh 180 lbs today. My husband and I had a "vegan" month in june and I lost 15 lbs during the first two weeks. So I'm thinking of doing that starting right now. I bought a stair stepper today so we'll see how fun that is tomorrow. Excersize-wise I'm fairly limited. I'm a housewife and I don't have my own car. So it's work out at home or sometimes after work with my hubby. The biggest problem I face- I am LAZY! So very, very lazy. I love food, I love tv, I love tv with food. Oh yeah, according to my husband we will be having a no tv month starting tomorrow. That might help me keep from eating for recreational purposes. I'm looking for someone to talk to daily about this. Someone to keep me accountable and encouraged. I'd like to lose a total of about 65 lbs. I don't have any clue how quickly I could do this but I would sure as heck love to wear a pair of shorts next summer. Anyway, expect many more lengthy posts. I'll have alot more free time starting tomorrow! :(

Hey Clara :)
welcome to your diary,

you mind if i ask you a question: are you thinking of remaining vegan?
the reason i am asking is because people tend to go on diets without dealing with their eating habits, emotional attachments to food etc. and they lose weight but soon they're back to their eating habits because now they "can eat whatever they want" and soon they're back where they were or gain even more. weight loss is mostly about changing your life style, but not by depriving yourself of things you like. i still have pizza, or cakes or whatever i want but the quantity has changed and i'm really enjoying my food now.

i hope you don't mind if i give you some tips :) i'm going to give you several links where you can learn more about healthy weight loss, about how much calories you should eat, even motivation.
i know its hard to start exercising but when you do start and when that initial fatigue goes away it becomes very pleasing and rewarding to your inner spirit.
maybe you just didn't find exercise that suits you. maybe you can do swimming, dancing, walking, biking...the important thing is that you move :)

ok here are the links with some helpful tips:

and don't worry you can do this. it is sometimes hard but as steve's diary says its about the journey and not just the destination...and believe me when i tell you this journey is one wonderful ride :)

good luck with all of your goals

I think you're thinking right!

Bravo on the no TV month! I think that's a great idea. I turned off my television in 1997 and haven't had one since. My weight dropped from 305 to 285 without doing anything more than that! It's AMAZING how many commercials and passing references there are to food on the tube!

TV is an entirely passive activity, reading or working on hobbies is better, IMO. I am way more productive around the house now, I get more sleep and if there is something I really want to see on TV I can always go to friends or the In-Laws house and make a social event out of it.

If you find you really miss it, move it to the room where you have the stair-stepper and other exercise equipment and resolve to turn it on only when you work out. Try that for a month.

You'll be surprised how happier you'll be without the inane shows, the horrible news from around the world in graphic detail and mindless drivel.

TV does have its place, and some are better at regulating how much they take in, but for me it's better to not be around it at all. I can get all the news I need from the Internet, and Public Radio.

Good Luck with it!

Lena410-

Thanks so much for your encouragment. And I think you're right. After the last couple days of fighting with vegetables I think I should just find healthier versions of the food I like and cut out the really bad stuff. I think I have a better chance of longevity that way. Thanks for the links too, I'll be surfing those in a minute!

DCarr-

Moving the tv to where the excersise equip. is is a great idea. I only have one peice right now and it's in the computer room so I put on music but once this no tv month is over I may just put on a show. But overall so far this have been an amazingly productive month. Since I don't have the option to sit and watch tv I get so much more done. I'm not gonna lie...I miss the heck out of it. :(
