child calorie consumption...

hi
kk ive been following all your advice 4 ~ 2 weeks and im seeing gd results, will post them soon.

but ive hit another hitch, i cant seem to find an accurate way to calculate my calorific need, as most calculators give me fairly low estimates, and i can easily consume 2500 / day without it affecting me...

anyway, will it be different 4 me cos im still growing, or is it just the same... im only 5"8' but hope to be taller and @ 15 am young to not b growing...

so, any advice on how to calculate how much i need, incorporating some 4 growth...???

any ideas???

chillen, this is probably in your territory and also im yet 2 receive, and awaiting impatiently, a rhyming response... :)

no pressure....

Hah yes his answers are fun to read.
And so I shall sit here and wait indeed.
For me to answer intelligently would be hard.
So instead I shall wait for Chillen the bard.

Seriously last time I ape the master.

oh and can sum1 just reply please, dont all wait till chillen does his stuff, it just aint fair to always leave the answering to him...

i didnt really expect an answer specifically from 'Chillen' but obviously no1 wanted to answer b4 him...

ye... anyways...

If you keep the fire within you burning, I promise the fire just gets stronger and bigger, as you progress and then meet your goals.

People wonder why I am so motivated all the time.

I know where I came from, I know what it took to get there, and I have acomplished all of my goals, and this revs me up.

All of the hard work I remember and continue to do, has made me grace my goal place with my face, and this feeling has no equal, and its the heart of the chase that had prepared the place for my face.

All of the personal struggles of the past and the feelings these brought, do not compare to the feelings in the present.

Fitness has changed my life, has transformed an aging, and declining body, into a robust, thriving and healthy machine. I owe alot to it. There is no price. Thus, I spread good will to all, no matter how slight it may give to one or more. I spread it as much as I feasibly can. Nothing more.

Fitness has changed my life, and there is going to be a time, in the near future, I will have to call upon my personal fitness, to enable me to take care of my wife, and in the preparation, it will.

Though this seems to be about me, it has an implied meaning, I want you to absorb.

Aliiiiiighty theeeeen! I will be looking for it!

You may want to consider creating a journal. This way you can ask additional questions, post your diet and training, keep a log of thoughts, etc.

A lot of persons view these logs, and it could assist you, possibly, in allot of ways!

but ive hit another hitch, i cant seem to find an accurate way to calculate my calorific need, as most calculators give me fairly low estimates, and i can easily consume 2500 / day without it affecting me...

Yes, IMO, you "should" consider you are still your in development stages of initial growth and maturity. At 15, your body hasnt developed into its genetic potential, yet, and you have a few years before it does. However, you do have calorie needs to consider, and one should try to optimize their diet as best they can within the goals they personally seek. With you, you want to keep your development stage in mind when constructing your diet circumference, and most importantly, adapt to the feed back your body is providing you in return.

When you say you can eat 2500c without it effecting you, what do you mean by this? Can you "specifically" define this? Does this mean, that with your training you have been doing that you have NOT gained in muscle/strength, not gained any fat tissue (and/or lost any fat tissue), or your weight has maintained with this 2500c calorie intake?

During a typical week, what is exactly your training routine? How many days? What exactly do you do? (sets, reps, and exercises). Do you do any activities in school? (i.e. sport activities, etc).

How have you been calculating your calories. What type of calorie aproximator have you been using?

I would like YOU to calculate your BASE calorie needs, and your Maintenance Line (MT LINE) of calories, and post them here in this thread, or your new journal. :)

If you want muscle growth, one example of a very quick ' rule of thumb ' calc is 16 calories X per pound of bodyweight ( an estimate of your maintenance calories ) ..... plus 20% ( to add weight ) and could be a good starting point to figure out your calorie needs.

Another example of a calc ( see ident below ) you can use, breaks out separate input estimates for the time you spend doing any cardio and or weight training to come up with your estimate of maintenance calories - to which you can bump up by 20% or so to gain weight........

A - Your weight in pounds

B - Take A X 11 = RMR calories

C - Take B X 1.6 for your daily activities calories

D - Number of minutes you weight lift per week X 5

E - Number of minutes you do aerobic cardio, sports etc. per week X 8

F - Add D & E....divide by 7

G - Add C & F to get an estimate of your daily maintenance calories

Yet another ' rule of thumb ' example for how many calories strength athletes should take when it comes to issues of muscle mass goes as follows......

- to simply maintain muscle mass : 20 calories per pound of bodyweight

- to ADD muscle mass : 25 - 30 calories per pound of bodyweight

....all 3 are just guidelines - just means of ' estimating ' your caloric needs.

So, short of going into a laboratory, you can't find a 100% " accurate way to calculate your calorific need " - all these calculators you see being used are just rough estimates and should be taken with a grain of salt IMO. ;)
