Cherub's Cohen Countdown

hi cherub :)

i went from 80kgs last november to 68kgs in march this year, but i lost the plot and pigged out - putting nearly all of it back on. i'm back on track now - mostly through low GI diet and regular exercise. I'd love to do cohen's (i checked out the support group on this site) but i can't afford it and i'm not sure i'd have the discipline! your results are amazing - must feel great :)

Hi sheidi

A long time ago, a friend told me that she was going on the Cohen diet and I laughed and said "why should you pay someone that mucy money for YOU to do all of the hard work?" anyway a few years later, I have seen 2 friends lose huge amounts of weight on Cohens and eventually, I put on 5 kilos above my comfortable fattest weight and decided I had to do something.

I think that the reason it works is:
1) I've paid all of that money, I'm not going to have people say "told you so, you've wasted all that money" and
2) the plan is quite rigid whereas they say 1 deviation will cost you another week on the program and I don't want to do that.

Weight watchers was too flexible for me, I need less choices/uncomplicated plan and I find this program is working for me. I have never got to goal weight before, always been overweight, but I'm so encouraged by what I've seen so far that I know that I'll go the distance...as they say...it's only a small amount of time that I'll be doing this for...and the diet reprogrammes your body so you won't put on weight like you used to (human growth hormone has something to do with it).
I think that $680 is well worth my guaranteed goal weight!

Day 14

Wow, two weeks gone already.
Today was tough, a bit lethargic, PMT, could have handled a big cheesy dish like cauliflower cheese...quite hungry...settled for an extra half an orange to overcome low blood sugar.
I weighed again this morning...it was good, but will be better after TTOM....I know...said I wouldn't weigh until 4 weeks was up...but felt skinny so I did...twas a 1.6kg loss for the week but won't update my ticker until end of month.
My food is so bland that I've been having a teaspoon of seeded mustard with my meat to spice it up...so far it hasn't slowed my progress down.

Day 16

:) Well, the slimmers tea was too strong for me, gave me cramps. So I've resorted to orange metamucil, I've heard through the Cohen thread that someone said we can have it. The guide does say though...nothing with citrus extracts.....it does have citric acid in it. Well, if I stop losing weight, I'll let you all know. It does taste great (the smooth variety) and I'll only have it every 2nd day.

Off to choose tiles today for our house that's being built...very exciting!!!

Can't wait for week 4 to be over with so I can weigh.

Day 21

Feeling pretty good, clothes are definitely looser my pants don't go vvvvit vvvvit vvvvit when I walk as much (inner thighs!) I reckon that in 4 more weeks, I'll be under 70kg, can't wait...so many clothes in my wardrobe that I've missed wearing...and new clothes too that I never got to wear!

Going up to the Royal Show in 2 weeks time...MUST NOT DEVIATE!!! we're staying in a self contained motel, so I'll be able to cook/pack my own meals.

I'm going to try and limit my seafood intake as I discovered that 3 days in a row of having it (fish/prawns/tuna) didn't give me enough oomph...since then, I've had chicken, steak, eggs, bocconcini (baby mozzarella with 6% less fat that mozzarella)and I feel much better.

1 week to weigh in and blood test...it's gone quick....must not deviate!!!!!

Day 31

Off to Perth on Saturday. I WILL NOT DEVIATE NO MATTER HOW GOOD THOSE FRIED ONIONS AND BURGERS SMELL!! Have planned all my meals and will take diet lift when feeling like something sweet. I WILL NOT BUY ANY SHOWBAGS FULL OF CRAP!

My week 4 weigh in went well...lost 5.6kg...12.6 to go. Cohen's will phone in the next day or 2 to let me know how my blood results went.

Just had the tastiest meal yet on Cohen's....

Garlic Chicken & Cabbage
Diced chicken
2 cloves crushed garlic
shredded cabbage
chopped parsley & thyme
dash of water
sprinkle of onion salt

roll chicken in garlic and herbs
pan fry in a non stick pan with spray oil
when half cooked, add cabbage, water & salt, stir then put lid on...will only take 2-3 mins to cook

YUMMMMMMO

Day 39 ...major deviation but no weight gain!!!

Well, I did deviate in Perth. All done, nothing I can do about it ...but the good news is I still weigh the same...and my deviation was huge and worth it! We're talking tastes of everything going at the Royal Show...including whole scoop of cookie/passionfruit connoisseur icecream (free) marinated chicken on a stick...strawberries...chocolate tastings...sushi, Whistler's chocolate showbag, morish nut showbag...then we went to northbridge for dinner....seafood platter for 4 (more like 8!!!) they really over did the portion thing...and we're all big eaters! Chilli mussels, prawns, calamari, fish, scallops, crab, chips, garlic bread and normal bread & butter...all washed down with a semillon/sauvignon....then a baci icecream! We walked so much that day, I think I burnt off quite a few kjoules.

My breakfast meal is now curried egg (with mayo) on crackers + 1/2 orange (other half for dinner) + asparagus...yum!

Lunch is what ever hubby feels like cooking for me....he spoils me!

Dinner at the moment is yummy garlic chicken with cabbage...too good!

I feel better now that I have confessed! Does make me wonder though, how much weight I could have lost if I didn't deviate!

Yummy.... i am gonna try the garlic chicken tmr!:D

Look like yr trip went really well. welcome back and get back to work!:p

Day 45

I'm back on track...looking forward to hitting the 60's should be in about 2-3 weeks.

My kids are in the process of making shortbread (which smells divine!) and foccacia with garlic and herbs!! All I can say is that....I'm looking forward to my chicken, garlic and asparagus stirfry tonight!

My mum has been visiting for a few days and noticed that I was looking skinnier!... no one at work has said anything yet...won't be long before it will be more obvious though!

Trying to work out what my next reward will be...my priorities have changed since day 1.

Day 49

8kg down in 7 weeks...this has been too easy! I am not sure whether I'll make it to my bottom goal weight of 60kg...if I do...have doubts about maintainability.

Haven't been measuring...too tedious...go by "pantsometer" will have to buy some smaller pants soon...everything is in storage while we build.

Day 50

Have started taking acidophillus tablets 1 hour before my dinner meal....hence the filling in time now! Supposed to promote healthier bacteria in the stomach...aiding digestion.

Can't wait til I'm 67kg ...3.2 to go.

Having friends over this weekend...will make some chicken/onion/capsicum/squash kebabs for BBQ + other unmentionable stuff for them. Will try not to deviate!

Day 52 ticker update

Yippeeeeeeeeeee! I'm now in the 60s...haven't been there for a very long time. Nearly half way there...this program is a breeze.

Can't believe that I waited 7 weeks to try vaalia yoghurt with grated apple!!!! YUUUUUUMMMMMMMYYYY!!!! I'm hooked!

Day 53 mmmmm coffeeeee

Met up with a friend today for "coffee"...I gave coffee up just before I started cohens....have to say that I am now having 1 flat white per week (no sugar) and still losing weight! I'm also having the odd cup of tea with milk which is a real treat.

Tomorrow will be a real challenge...friends for dinner...
menu
chicken/onion/capsicum kebabs (this is all I'll be having)
chops
sausages
potato salad
caesar salad
real garlic bread!
strawberries for sweets

friends don't know I'm dieting...might just say that I have a tummy ache...hence not eating everything...not sure why...don't want to tell anyone yet! One of the girls at work thinks it's a stupid diet (she doesn't know either) mind you, she cycles for 100km, complains about sore butt/twat & I say "I have no sympathy!" Each to their own!

I seriously believe that this is the diet to change my eating habits forever (yo-yo dieter for 24 years now) when I finish, I'll still have the odd treat...but I think that I'll stay away from bread products (always used to make me sleepy)

breads give me the high for a while but after dat my tummy feels so bloated!

U've taken the courage to change yr bad habits, well done! It's ok not telling yr frends. There will be some ppl who won't notice....until they see u with their hearts open.:)

hv a great weekend!

Day 55

Yep, I tried everything on the table but didn't overdo it...potato salad was the best...and I didn't even go back for seconds.

Back to the yummy yoghurt n apple for breaky and road to skinnydom!

Day 57

My saturday bbq has definitely slowed loss down. 3 days later and I'm still on the 70kg mark...was 69.6...I know it's not much ...more of a psychological hurdle really. Today was my 8 week weigh in...only lost 2.6kg this month...I did have a 4 day binge + last saturday's bbq so I suppose any loss is better than a gain...will keep plodding along.

Hope to lose at least 3kg this month.

Day 60

68.8...OMG...I actually wasn't prepared for that!
Someone at work actually commented on my weight loss yesterday (for the first time) she said "whatever you're doing...keep it up...you're lookin' good!"

My clothes are looking really sad & saggy baggy now which can only mean...sigh...new clothes!!!
