ChefChiTown's Rebirth: I'm Back, BABY!!! (In More Ways Than One)...

Well, tonight marks the "3 weeks in" spot in my current weight loss journey. Tonight was also the Super Bowl. And, for the first time in as long as I can remember (with one exception), I didn't "go all out" for the big game. We had homemade pizza...and that was all I had. No wings, no ice cream, no snacking, no drinks, nothing. Just homemade pizza. What a weird Super Bowl.

Anyway, one thing I notice - I already have a headache. I mentioned before (somewhere) that when I stick to a low-carb diet for a while (a week or two at least), I almost ALWAYS get a headache or migraine the first time I eat a bunch of carbs. Well, I have a headache already tonight and I'm pretty sure it's because I ate a bunch of carbs for the first time in a while. It sucks. I mean, it's a good sign in a weird way - it means my body has already adjusted and gotten used to eating a healthier diet - but it just sucks.

There's one thing I don't talk about much and that's my constant headaches. I guess I've just gotten so used to having them that I don't bitch about it. Mostly because I'm not a pussy and can't see myself whining and moaning about a simple headache, especially when it's completely normal feeling to me, but also because bitching about it won't do any good. I just kind of deal with it. I don't know WHY they happen, they just do. It's my life and has been for years. But, to have a headache caused by FOOD? Now, that's just fucking cruel. I LOVE food!!! Why, God, WHY?!?!?!

Hmm? I don't know where I was going with that. I get headaches. And, sometimes they're apparently caused by the food I eat. There. That's the jist of it. Jist? Is it JIST? Or GIST? With a G? I don't know. It looks wrong either way.

It's gist. A weird word. I get headaches a lot too Chef, but usually don't mention them. I have never had a migraine, though which I think you do get. I think headaches are common when you change something drastically, either up or down. Sugar is a doozy. A friend of mine is doing Febfast & going a whole month without sugar to raise money for disadvantaged kids. She is suffering badly with a big headache apparently!
Well done on your Superbowl moderation. See, you can do it :D What was on your pizza btw?

Hey there... Sounds like your SuperBowl was a success compared to parties of the past. Sorry about the headache though. I get headaches in reverse. If I eat a lot of sugar and then go cold turkey I go through withdrawals. The same thing with caffeine. It sucks. My headaches always feel like pressure right behind my eyes where I just want to close them and go to sleep. Blah!

For Jen and the kids I made pepperoni pizza. For myself I made a green pepper and mushroom pizza. I mean, it was ok...it definitely wasn't as good as I WANTED it to be, but for trying to be 'bad' while trying to be 'good' at the same time I think it was satisfying. However, NEXT weekend I am CHEATING, HAHAHA. My mind and body need a break.

I think sugar has a lot to do with it. I cut out pop completely and, since I'm watching my carbs and exercising five days a week my body probably isn't developing sugars at all. That's probably why I've been really tired too - maybe I've had a drastic drop in blood sugar (which I needed). I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it just suuuuucks.

Starting Weight (January 18th, 2016): 261 lbs
Current Weight (as of February 1st): 249 lbs
Total Loss: 12 lbs

So, I had a BIG drop this week, fiiiiinally. I lost 7.2 lbs this past week and I couldn't be happier, especially when I consider the fact that I ate a ton of carbs last night when I had myself some pizza. Anyway, I am NOT expecting such a big drop every week, HAHAHA, I'm not THAT unrealistic with my expectations. It's just nice to see that big drop every once in a while.

My goal for the next two weeks is to lose six more pounds which would put me at 243 lbs. How am I going to get there? Well, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. The only adjustment I'm going to make is in regards to my time on the treadmill. I'm not going to stop getting on the treadmill - oh no - I just plan on running in place of walking on the treadmill from time to time. Like, tonight for instance. I went for a nice run outside instead of getting on the treadmill. And, even though my legs feel like wiggly gelatin right now, my body feels GREAT. So, I'm going to throw in some runs every now and then just to mix it up a bit. Other than that, I'm sticking to my plan. It's working and I'm not going to screw around with it and mess things up.

SIDE NOTE: Our son got on the Wii Fit after I was done and did the yoga exercises. It was the cutest thing I've ever seen. He has some coordination and balance problems (caused by pre-existing conditions he has) so seeing him doing so well - AND seeing him have fun and beaming with pride when he did so well - was definitely one of those irreplaceable 'parenting' moments. So awesome.

Ok, I have a grievance to file with retail workers of the world.

I have the day off today from work so I told Jen I would get up and take the kids to school this morning (so she could sleep in if she wanted - and considering it's almost 11AM and she's still not up? I'm guessing she wanted, HAHAHAHA). After I dropped the kids off at school I went and ran some errands. I went to the bank, then to the post office and then to the grocery store...UGH, the grocery store.

Anyway, the grocery store in town opens at like 7AM or 8AM. I didn't get there until about 9AM which is at least a full hour after they opened. So, I go do my shopping and head to the registers when I'm done. Now, the grocery store is NOT busy at all at this point - there was literally four other people in the store with me. Anyway, since it wasn't a wasn't time for them, only one lane in the grocery store is open. So, I go to that one. No cashier is waiting there, but I start to unload my cart anyway (that's normal when it's not busy - cashiers will walk away and do other stuff until they see a customer - no big deal). However, in the lane right next to me I witness the following (and this is my grievance)...

Every single employee working this morning was standing in a circle, centered around the store manager. When I walked up to the register I heard one of the employees say to another employee, "Looks like you got a customer." So, I expected someone to immediately come help me. Nope. Didn't happen. What DID happen, you ask? Well, they all stood around talking for a few minutes. The manager was explaining some work-related nonsense and most everybody was just laughing and talking and having a good old time...while I stood there...waiting.

It was a good seven or eight minutes before someone came and rang up my groceries. Mind you, they were TEN FUCKING FEET AWAY FROM ME. They even ACKNOWLEDGED me. Yet, nobody came and helped me until their little 'morning meeting' was over.

So, here is my plea to retail workers around the world - have your stupid little fucking meetings BEFORE the store opens to the public. Don't wait until your store is open and people are needing your assistance to have a store huddle - it's fucking retarded. McDonald's doesn't turn on their cooking equipment and begin cooking food at 6:15AM, a full fifteen minutes after they've already opened - they have their shit together and they're ready to go when their "OPEN" time arrives. The gas station doesn't wait until a half hour after they've opened to turn on their pumps - that shit is ready to go when you show up.

Come on, people. SERIOUSLY.

I LOVE all of the above!

I'm not hating it either, HAHAHA

Yes... yes, I did. :D

Hi Chef,

I am on this low carb diet too. My wife is on it so I am on it so I can support her. We both love pizza. Doesn't matter what is on it-lol. That being said we found a low carb pizza crust made with cauliflower- I know- weird. We did try it and it was really, really good. It is just made with some mashed up cauliflower- parmesan cheese and eggs. You can google it - there are a lot of different recipes out there. The one we made was about the size of medium pizza and even with all the toppings ( we used mostly veggies) - the whole pizza came to about 270 calories and it tasted great. Carb count was way down too.

I haven't tried the cauliflower pizza crust yet, but last year Jen and I tried cauliflower bread sticks. It seems like it was the same concept - cauliflower, eggs, parmesan and some spices rolled into a "dough," pressed out onto a baking sheet and smothered with cheese. I thought they were pretty good myself. However, I couldn't get them crisp, so it was kind of limp. I haven't had them in a while - thanks for bringing it up, I'll have to make some again soon.

Holy crapmoley! Chefchitown i remember you as we joined around the same time. You started the most epic 6 month weight loss challenge that i'd ever seen, i still have that file template somewhere and if i wasn't so lazy will actually find it one of these days and start using it to track my stats (i created my own very lame basic excel sheet with graph).

I check in here once every few months...i miss the good ol days when i knew all the regulars so it's great to see some familiar faces! I see you still have your sense of humour haha.

I'm co-signing on the cauliflower pizza (i'm keto nowadays), and it's worked wonders in keeping pizza cravings at bay. But you're right, the base is always kinda limp, not crisp/crunchy/doughy. I'm hoping to try the almond flour version sometime as it looks more "bready".

Wishing you all the best on your journey. I too did a great job in 2009, fell off and gained a whole bunch of weight but back on the wagon with still a long way to go. If we fall we keep getting up and we'll get there :)

Ahh, the Super Awesome Mega Challenge? HAHAHA, that was soooo hardcore. I should start up another challenge sometime. That was fun. Hard as shit, but fun.

Good to see you're back.

Jen and I were talking earlier about how the only busy section of this forum now-a-days is the Weight Loss Diary section. I remember when people used to post in the Off-Topic section a lot, but nobody seems to do that anymore. So, I'm going to make it my mission to get that section back on track. I think other people should too - we don't have to limit our conversations to our personal diaries and the diaries of our friends - we can post about other stuff in the Off-Topic section too. Sports, music, politics, movies, TV, funny stories, jokes, whatever the hell we want...we should all start posting stuff in the Off-Topic section.

So, I'm going to go find something and talk about it.

I think you & I both would hardly get a word in edge-wise if we met.
Hmmm....how hard would it be for me to find something to talk about?....
I had better go have a quick look to see what you have come up with.......

So, we got the Wii U for our "family gift" this year for Christmas and, since we hooked it up, we've all had a looooot of fun with it. Well, my parents came to visit around New Years and brought a bunch of games for us, one of them being Just Dance. For those of you who don't know what Just Dance is, it's a dancing game where you have to mimic the dance routines on the screen to get points. Here's a video of what it looks like...

Anyway, Jen and the kids played it a week or two ago and, although it looked like fun, I sat my fat ass on the couch and played spectator. I'm not a dancer. I can keep a beat very well but I definitely can't dance. I am a cliche white boy.

Well, for some reason, I got the urge to play it tonight. So, while Jen was on the treadmill, after I was done with my Wii Fit session, I put in Just Dance 3 (one of the dance games we now own). It was hard - a LOT harder than I expected - but I toughed through it. It was actually kind of fun too, so I wouldn't be too surprised if I maaaaaybe play it again sometime. MAYBE.

Oh, and for the record, I danced to three songs...and I got the HIGH SCORE on two of them. Looks like good old Chef is a closet dancer. Apparently I can also use my chef knives to cut a rug (sorry, that's an old timey expression).

Ok... so I got done with the treadmill and walked out of the bedroom to find that^^^^ hahaha! You can just imagine the look on my face.

I didn't think anything would be more entertaining than watching you do yoga, but I was wrong..... soooo soooo wrong. hahaha! Next time we'll have to do it together. :)

My favorite "dance......" Hubby and Son are at work... ZuZu is napping in her crate.(my dog...can't dance in front of her bc she has 1 eyebrow raised and blinks in a judgmental way...)

At last....All alone....... I crank up Footloose and dance like it's 1984!!!!:D:cool:
