cheeeese~

Guys here's an awkward/dumb question...

I've been hearing ppl speaking very highly of cottage cheese as a
pre-bedtime snack...but the only kind of cheese i see in grocery stores are ..the kind of yellow cheese (cheddar?) in slices dat u put on homemade sandwiches, and of course the gigantic chunks of white cheese. If im not mistaken, the former has way more fat+carbs than protein..not sure about the white one..dunno wut to do with it if i ever bought any=.=v

As I'm of asian heritage, my family and I aren't really cheese experts...I'm wondering what other kinds of cheese are rich in protein. And also, where can I find me some cottage cheese and what does it look like?.?
 
Well, I don't know where you live, but here in America cottage cheese is sold in pretty much every grocery store. It's usually in the dairy section with the cold stuff and comes in a variety of brands and types ranging from 1% to 4% fat.
 
Sometimes cottage cheese is sold alongside yogurt as puddings as well - depending on the grocery store.
 
i dont mean to hijack the thread, but i have wondered: why is cottage cheese typically recommeneded over skim milk as a good before-bed source of casein?
 
For me personally, it's tastier, more satisfying, and leaves me fuller than drinking milk.

One could possibly say that because it's not in liquid form, casein in cottage cheese absorbs more slowly during sleep - which is preferable. I couldn't say this with 100% certainty though.
 
Cottage cheese is almost always segregated from the other cheeses here, it comes in tubs, or maybe in a bag if you want dry (which I wouldn't recommend for eating plain). I generally find it somewhere between Regular cheese and yogurt in a supermarket, or wherever they keep things that are in tubs in small grocers, sometimes with margarine and sour cream. Comes between Fat Free and 4% in tubs here as well as dry so read the label before you buy since you don't want to eat dry plain. I find the Fat free none dry tastes fine.

I find it more filling without being bloating than drinking milk, especially near bed time.
